Item Adoption of new media platform by commercial FM radio stations of Lahore(University of Management and Technolog, 2017) Ashraf, SidraABSTRACT This research study analyzes the adoption of a new media platform and its effects on commercial FM (frequency modulation) radio stations of Lahore. The study also includes the challenges faced by the traditional FM radio stations of Lahore during the incorporation of new media platform. This research describes the reason behind people adopting new innovations that have a great influence on their minds and also confer that media technology shapes how we as individuals think, feel, and act in the society, and how the society operates as we move from one technological age to another. The research study explores how and why the new ideas and emerging technologies are adopted and the amount of time it takes for them to spread in the society. Stratified sampling is used to conduct the result, in which commercial FM radio stations are the strata and are the only requirement of study. Data is collected through in-depth interviews in which coding technique is used to get results. Stations managers, production managers, sales and marketing managers, RJ’s (Radio jockey) , and the HR (Human resource) department of those commercial FM radio stations who adopted new media platform are asked open-ended interview questions.. The findings of this research show that new media platform provides a way to achieve success in the society; it also helped commercial FM radio stations to increase their listenership, accessibility, revenue and employabilityItem Analysis of development agenda of FM broadcasting houses in Quetta city(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2016) Mukhtar, MehwishDiscovering and sustaining the means of information is the most significant assistance for most of people in ever-changing situations of Quetta. FM radio stations are heard by people from every sphere of the social order. In this study FM radio is considered as community medium due to its usage by the people of Quetta. FM broadcasting is immensely operative, vital and improved tool because of its vicinity, intimacy, rapidity, easy reach, and inexpensive nature. Individuals of Quetta embraced FM radio for its prospective to overcome propaganda of other media by bringing news and information to distant zones, and it educated society about rights of human, impartiality, and healthcare, etc. This thesis explores that whether major development issues faced by people of Quetta are in the agenda of FM transmission or not. Population of Quetta is suffering from lack of facilities, social disorder. There is much need to address the developmental issues of that area. This research is conducted by taking in-depth interviews of the resource persons of FM broadcasting houses of Quetta, along with the survey method in which questionnaire was used as tool. The findings of this study are that both media person and listeners of Quetta believe that FM broadcasting houses have significant development agenda.Item Case study: communication support system of Rescue 1122(2010) Umair Saeed Khan; Mahvish Salam AlviItem A critical analysis of TV news bulletins: an opinion survey of TV viewers of Lahore(University of Management and Technology, 2011) Muhammad Abdullah Tariq; Shahida AnwarThis research has been conducted to highlight the opinion of people toward news bulletins of popular TV channels. People generally think that news bulletins do not give proper coverage to social issues and they want news to be needed to professional as well as unbiased. The Problem is, news bulletins promote yellow journalism and exaggeration in news stories to increase viewership; they must promote social news coverage by highlighting people's issues in a positive and critic way. Researchers got quantitative results with the help of their questionnaire survey. The study concludes that 40% viewers like Geo News. 53% people believe that news bulletins fulfill their demands. 60% people consider technical quality of news to be satisfactory. A big number of our respondents dislike competition in news breaking stories. Language of news is easy to understand according to 55% of our respondents. 57% people take news bulletins as professional. National and political news coverage is dominated in news, say viewers. Mostly news coverage is spicy according to 52% viewers. Breaking news gets most of the viewership, 63% viewers think rural issues must be given more space. News channels mostly present same news stories and that is stated by 91% of viewers. This research shows that our private news channels are presenting bulletins to sensationalize news stories and highlight mostly political news to get business, no proper coverage is given to rural issues.Item A critical study of creativity in TV and messages(University of Management and Technology, 2011) Qamer Riaz; Kiran NasirThis research has been conduct to highlight the issue of lack of creativity in Pakistani advertisements. People immediately change the channel as any commercial break takes place during any program. People are not finding creativity in Pakistani ads. Problem is with the efficiency of our advertising professional. They are not enough expert and efficient to provide something new and unique for the viewers. Researchers got the quantitative result on the basis of their questionnaire survey. This study concludes that 54% correspondents have attraction for overall presentation instead of few elements, 47% respondent immediately change the channel to avoid commercial break and 34% rarely watch ads during commercial break of any program, only 19% of them use to watch ads. 84% of our respondent agreed that creative ads attract them and can influence their buying behaviour, 61% of them agreed that they haven't buy any product due to any Pakistani commercial and reason given by them is lacking of creativity in the ads, 83% respondents agreed that Pakistani advertising professional not providing something unique to attract the viewers, 89% respondents got disappointed by watching Pakistani commercials, 50% of them have given C and D grade for the creativity to our advertising professionals, 69% people like to see Ufone commercials as they are providing variety of ads for the viewers. This research shows that our advertising professionals are only working as they are doing formalities rather providing their viewers something new and unique in order to achieve the required result.Item Critical study of Lahore's imams spreading sectarianism through their communication in Friday sermons(University of Management and Technology, 2011) Rana Saif-Ur-RehmanThis study examines the role of Lahore's imams that how they are spreading sectarianism through their communication in Friday sermons. There are four sects in Pakistane.g deobandi, barelvi, ahl e Tashee, but the study of this project is on two main sects Deobandi and Barelvi, related with the same school of ideology (Sunni) but these two sects have some differences in their thoughts. Study on this topic tells us that how imams of deobandi and barelvi spreading sectarianism with special reference to Friday sermons. The researcher also examines the spreading of sectarianism area wise (posh and mediocre).Item Critical study of morning programs agenda in popular TV channel(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2015) Sidra JahangirThis study investigates the "Morning programs agenda in popular TV channels" through content analysis as a tool of data collection. Agenda of morning programs is the focus point. Agenda refers to theme and message of morning program. Purpose of observing agenda of morning show is to evaluate what message is being delivered by these shows to the people at large. Channels selected for this research are GEO TV, HUM TV, ARY Digital and PTV. One month period was being selected for monitoring i.e. April 2015. Monitoring of selected TV channels clarify the agenda of that channel. For the purpose of observing morning programs agenda in popular TV channels, agenda setting theory was being applied. Through message and theme of the program we came to know about the agenda of that channel. As the purpose of the study is to evaluate morning programs agenda of popular TV channels, methodology of the research is quantitative analysis. Monitoring of morning transmission helped in data collection, leading to content analysis to measure the quality of programs. Parameters are developed in shape of table to collect data. This table helped in figuring out that what kind of approach TV channels are adopting. General findings of research revealed that mostly morning shows are highlighting themes related to women interest. Knowing the fact that house hold women are heavily engaged in morning shows, producers design shows according to women interest such as makeup tips, latest dress designs, new hairstyles, health tips, self-grooming, wedding shopping etc. These topics increase their interest in morning transmission and mostly women are watching 2-3 morning shows at a time to get more and more information.Item DEPENDENCY OF PAKISTANI MAJOR NEWSPAPERS ON NEWS AGENCIES(University of Management and Technology, 2017) Kamran, HassanThis study aims to investigate the level of Dependency of Pakistani Major Newspapers (The News, Dawn, and Express Tribune) on Foreign News Agency/ Networks. It has been done under theoretical schema of Media Imperialism Theory through a Qualitative Content Analysis of the above mentioned newspapers, where the international news stories publish in them are compared with the international news agencies and networks’ content during a period of four months (May to August 2016). It has been found that THE NEWS has reported most number of news stories (336) for this time period using national and international news agencies as compared to the other two newspapers TRIBUNE (114) and DAWN (138) respectively, however the dependency of THE NEWS on international news agencies was least among the three (only 19%), but mainly on national news agencies (81%). On the other hand, dependency of DAWN newspaper was found significantly higher (71%) on the international news agencies. TRIBUNE reported 60% of news using international news agencies while 40% using the national agencies. Their dependence on associated international & national news for front & back page stories is also significantly highItem Distinguish between four top channels(2010) Ayesha Azmat Khan; Talha Tanveer SiddiquiIn this project we are discussed comparison between four top channels GEO TV, ARY NEWS, EXPRESS NEWS, DUNYA T.V. This Project divided in to four parts. First there was mentioned history of news channels. There was vacuum that exist in the PakistanMedia, which was fulfilled by these channels. In the past few years there was limited source of information. Also discussed how private channels emerge and became so much important and popular among public, its objectives role also mentioned. In the second part discussed detailed introduction about these four top channels. These channels mission, vision statement and program list also given. In the third part there were survey results, performed in the form of Questionnaire which is clearly shown in the light of charts. Also, arranged a focus group, gathered three different type of personalities with there different occupation. The interviews being conducted of one businessman, one student and banker and all of them got different views about the topic. The growth in mass media influenced the political process and media helpful in pressurizing Government about any issue shown by survey results in charts and graphs. From these four top channels, which channel possesses strong impact on society also stated. Entirely the project is depend on research work that done by us Media is for public, so it's preferable to take public points of views and comments about these channels. Fourth part was covered by the suggestions for the improvement of these channels. And this part was end with the conclusion.Item Effect of Television advertisements on buying habitsof consumers(University of Management and Technology, 2013) Mastoora Khalid; Iqra NaeemThe study examines the negative effects of television advertisements on the buying behavior of consumers due to influential advertising appeals. This quantitative research study is conducted through survey in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The research sample was taken from the four large urban cities of Punjab including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot. With total sample size of 200, in each four cities 50 people were taken from each city including 50% male and 50% female respondents of all age groups and social classes. Thequestionnaire comprised 26 queries that dealt with various aspects of television advertisements. The study found that a majority of people in Punjab province (63%) believe that television advertisements do change their point of view regarding a product or service and greatly influence their awareness, attitudes, and their buying behavior. The study reveals that TV advertising appeals also mislead the society by convincing the consumers to buy false products, as 66 % respondents said they bought uselessthings like fairness creams, herbal products, and dietary products due to TV commercials.Television advertisers exaggerate the benefits of products by using doctors, celebrities and animations (62% respondents). A majority of consumers (84%) believe that the controversial appeals in the television advertisements violate the norms and the cultural values of the society, while 66% believe that the media broadcasters and cable operators are not following the code of conduct. The study concludes that practical steps areneeded to check TV advertisements which are false, overstate product benefits, use advertising appeals to deceive and manipulate consumers.Item Effects of media violence on children(2010) Sidra Saleem; Sana MehmodItem Electronic media in Pakistan(University of Management and Technology, 2011) Fawad Malik; Muhammad Uzair AliThis project report deals with the Media in Pakistanwith special reference to electronic media. It starts with narrating history of media in Pakistan. In this section it covers PakistanBroadcasting Corporation, Radio Pakistan, media's sufferings and also takes media's power in account by SWOT Analysis. Then it has some units covering tv channels in Pakistan, the emergence and operations of fm radio in Pakistan. A section called western media and need for local media will tell about the requirement of Pakistan's own media upon which we can rely. In this context, the next section briefly explains the emergence of tv channels in Pakistan. “Media in Pakistan” is a section which thoroughly explains the importance, miracles and challenges faced by our media. It also talks about the government influence over media. The next segment explains about the development which has been made in Pakistani media over the several years. It depicts media's strong role in democracy movement, regulatory environment, domestic initiatives and international efforts for the empowerment of independent media. The next few portions discuss the media's freedom curbed by the government officials and some violations made by media in terms of broadcasting restricted materials. Sensationalism and yellow journalism have become regualr practices in media, hence, raising question upon the credibility of media being working ethically or not. The later sections have a report issued by PFUJ, in which they have mentioned all the accidents happened in 2010 wih the media personnels. There is a discussion on the positive and negative effects of media on society with reference to special grounds. The project report ends with a number of suggestions and a conclusion which should be adopted by Pakistani media to work efficiently, ethically and to justify their role of a true watchdog of society.Item Eroding the history(University of Management and Technology, 2012) Adil Bara; Zaheer AsgharItem Evaluation of coverage of print media in disaster reduction management(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2015) Iqra ChathaThis study is a comparative study of flood 2013 and Floods 2015 by Selected Press. To assess the difference between the practices and trends of news coverage, a comprehensive category system is designed in the light of existing literature and on the conceptual groundings of Social Responsibility Theory of Media and independence theory of Natural Disasters. Through Quantitative and Qualitative Content Analysis technique, study has investigated the complimentary and contrasting role of media with other institutes of society. The study has shown differences and similarities in the patterns of coverage between two different disasters, news organizations, years and two different political systems. Results have suggested that equal importance have been given to disaster awareness by selected press in whereas the role of state actors has been more appreciated during 2013. The News has raised more criticism on government during disaster and coverage Pakistani print media in disaster reduction management. The differences have also been noted in covering the role of armed forces, conducting need assessment and monitoring the flow of donations. Media is the most important source of information on hazards and disasters for people. From the many decades role of mass media in disaster situation have received less attention by the researchers. Media play an important role in awareness raising and providing information to the masses. This role becomes crucial when it comes to reporting during disasters. Media and communication can play an important role in helping to save the lives of people vulnerable to disasters and often includes using broadcast media, videos, games, music, mobile phones and other channels. It can help change attitudes towards risk, encourage conversations that lead to action towards resilience building and encourage greater accountability of governments, and other stakeholders, to safeguard the wellbeing of people at risk. "Media is the most powerful tool of communication. It helps promoting the right things on right time. It gives a real exposure to the mass audience about what is right or wrong. It helps a lot to inform us about the realities as well.Item Excessive facebook usage and social life of university student’s an exploratory study.(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2016) Shamsa JamilSocial networking site Facebook influences more the social behavior, social values and social norms of the youngster in our society. The excessive usage of Facebook creates the weaker bonding among family and youth. The present study examines the effects of excessive usage of Facebook on the social life of the youth of Pakistani universities. A sample of 181 university students has been analyzed quantitatively. A cross-sectional survey design is employed for the analysis. The effects of excessive use of Facebook and the social life of the students have measured on Likert scale of questionnaire. The chi-square test shows that there is association between the excessive usage of Facebook and the social life of students of universities which means the more the usage of Facebook the more it affects the social life of the students of the universities. The three hypothesis of the study shows the positive relationship. The value of Cronbachs' alpha is 0.865 which means the scale is highly reliable. Data has been analyzed statistically with the help of SPSS to conclude significant findings.Item Framing of Jamat-e-Islami Bangladesh leaders’ execution(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2015) Muhammad YousafNewspaper coverage of an issue leaves a positive or negative impact on the minds of public. This study examines the impact of framing of Jamat-e-Islami leaders' execution in Bangladesh. Jamat-e-Islami leaders were accused of being involved in massacre and atrocity during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Framing analysis was employed. The purpose of study was to identify how the leading dailies ‘The Daily Star' Bangladesh and ‘The Nation' Pakistanhave covered the event by using different frames in the same story to influence the public opinion. To investigate the issue, content analysis was conducted and framing as a tool was employed. Framing was analyzed from coding process which was done on two stages. On the first stage, open coding was performed. All the news text was read carefully and significant sentences and phrases were picked up and labeled according to the idea conveyed. On the second stage, all the labeled sentences and phrases were observed and analyzed thoughtfully to see if they show strong association to any of the seven frames extracted as result of first coding, i-e ‘National Vendetta frame, Historical Conflict frame, Human Rights frame, Public Reaction frame, Victory of Spectacle. Judicial frame and Religious frame. Five frames were extracted from the news story of ‘The Daily Star' Bangladesh whereas four frames were extracted from the news story of ‘The Daily Nation, Pakistan. The frequency of occurrence of these frames is such as; National Vendetta frame was the most frequently used frame, Victory of Spectacle frame was second frequently used frame. Judicial frame was the third frequently used frame, Human Rights frame was the fourth frequently used frame, Public Reaction frame was the fifth frequently used frame while Religious frame was the least used frame in ‘The Daily Star' Bangladesh. Whereas in ‘The Nation' Pakistan, Historic Conflict frame was most frequently used frame, Human Rights frame was the second frequently used frame, Religious frame was the third frequently used frame while Public reaction was the least used frame. The study has concluded that the incident of execution was widely celebrated in Bangladesh as it was deemed justice with victim families whereas slighty contemplated and condemned in PakistanItem GIS based crime analysis: the case of Iqbal town district zone(University of Management and Technology, 2010) Salman Mushtaq; Shahid OmerPolice agencies in Pakistanintend to use computers for data storage and analysis. But no real GIS application exists. Even data storage and analysis by using computers is in a rudimentary stage. GIS provides very advanced techniques for data analysis and there is a need to apply this potent technology in PakistanPolicing. The present research is done as a model for the implementations of GIS in PakistanPolicing. The aim of the present research is to analyze the crime scenario of Iqbal Town District Zone by using GIS technology. Crime is being analyzed manually in different disciplines but crime analysis in GIS does not exist. The research is an effort to give crime analysis a new direction. GIS software, Arc View 3.1 was used in present study. Dereferencing of spatial data was done in image analysis (an extension of Arc View). Data pertaining to the property offences as robbery, auto theft and auto snatching. The distribution of crime incidents showed that almost the whole of the study areas is witnessing crime include. The GIS analysis techniques are used for hot spot analysis, buffer analysis, and index of concentration. These analyses are done on different maps layers produced in Arc View. The description and analysis of these maps are useful for identifying and demarcating hot spot of crime, displacement of crime and illustrating the relationship between the mapped crime pattern and geographic characteristics of the study area.Item Impact of Hindi language cartoons on Pakistani children(University of Management and Technology, 2013) Ammar Malik; Muhammad ArslanLanguage is an essential part of any society, it is one of the basic foundation on which the society’s norms, values and culture is built.
