For many years the conventional method of the maintenance is being followed almost everywhere in the world. Most of the aircraft maintenance industries are following the conventional method of aircraft maintenance i.e. a paper-based maintenance setup. No major aircraft operator can function properly without having a strong aircraft maintenance engineering setup. This strong maintenance setup is now being transitioned into new methods from conventional methods. The new method is the E-maintenance concept that is slowly but surely being adopted by major maintenance industries globally. The E-maintenance helps in a lot of ways including the reduced shelf space, is fast and efficient and is eco-friendly. All these aspects were missing previously with conventional paper-based methods. Some of the well-known companies worldwide are adopting this new E-maintenance concept under different names but all having a similar purpose. ‘One Powerful Solution’ developed by the Boeing Company, ‘Maintenance Mobility’ launched by the Airbus and Honeywell’s Go-Direct solution. Paper-based maintenance activity is now being replaced by a more systematic electronic maintenance management system. The purpose of this discussion is proposing a specimen software application for aircraft maintenance using the Android operating system. For developing an application like this, a survey was conducted at the Walton aerodrome, Lahore, Pakistan and interviews were held with the senior management of the flying clubs. Their opinions, recommendations and reservations were documented with the intention to develop the application in conformity with their suggestions. The application was developed in different phases starting off with its prototype. A prototype was created in the design phase of the application, a rudimentary design using the Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 which was to be used as a reference in the development phase. In the development phase of the application, Android studio was used as a developing software tool because of its availability, open source nature and ready to be used even by beginners. Developing an aircraft maintenance application using android development tools implies that the final product will be readily available for use on most Android-based devices. A feedback survey was conducted in the testing phase of the application and a beta version of the application was given out to the trusted users to be tested. Their feedback was noted and changes were made according to their suggestions and recommendations.Item Awareness among people towards danger of birds for the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore(UMT, Lahore, 2019) Ahmed Mujtaba and Syed Talha AzharThere has been an increase in rate of bird strike at Lahore airport. A total of hundred (100) passengers at departure and arrival of AIIAP were a fundamental part of this valuable assessment, inclusive of ONLY the international passengers. The outcome manifested that the passengers had variable responses to the questionnaire conducted, all-resulting in an effective collection of statistics to recommend improvement. The approach methodology and the understanding about ‘Terminal Congestion’ defined that most of the findings were recognized that the terminals of departure and arrival are congested as the passenger’s feedback of apprehensions was quite marked in the graphical representation. Most of them seemed to face congestion during international departure and arrival at the airport. Smooth operational flow of passengers was also obvious to some extent. While another main part of the passenger population gave standardized responses, and a rare number choosing for no criticism throughout the researchItem DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF CRACK DETECTION SYSTEM FOR AIRCRAFT STRUCTURE(UMT, Lahore, 2019) MUHAMMAD ASIMIn this report there is a proposed solution of how can a crack be detected by image processing. Cracks on the external sides of the metal are one of the most initial signs of the degradation of the surface, the presence of these cracks can be led to structure failure. So, these cracks need to detected at time. Physical examination of the external surface of metal is the conventional technique to detect the cracks. As, manual technique or manual approach totally based on staff’s knowledge, it can be lack at some moments. Therefore, the chances of some cracks get undetected are huge. So, a crack detection using image processing technique is proposed as a replacement of manual method. In this report, literature presents the previous different methods for crack detection. After detailed study of previous works a new technique is proposed which can play an important role in airline industry. Different types of crack scan be detected using image processing. In this report cracks of different taxonomies will be first converted to grayscale from RGB through our proposed algorithms and then from grayscale edge detection techniques will be applied to identify its edges. After edge detection of digital image algorithms has been applied to find crack and crack can be find by pixel breakage. In this report, implementation of algorithms has been done and experimental results are also attached to confirm the end results of this proposed approach.Item DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF TOOL TRACKING SYSTEM FOR AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE(UMT, Lahore, 2019) ASFAR UR REHMAN, SAJAWAL CH and GOHAR FARIDMisplacement of a tool in aircraft maintenance industry seem a minor occurrence but it is an expensive one. That causes the maintenance activities to be delayed for days and week of personnel search until the misplaced tool can be found. Because a lost object of any kind in or around the aircraft can cause unrecoverable damage due to Foreign Object Damage (FOD). In this study, we propose tracking system, which can track misplaced tool with low cost and minimum energy consumption, within specified range and reduce hectic of the manual search and can increase airline safety and productivity. Our novelty lies in designing the Bluetooth based tracking system. This paper focuses on the introduction of tracking system that uses Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) beacons and data transfer by using embedded system approach. Tracking system provides two features, monitoring and tracking. The system essentially based on two components Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Micro-controller. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) send a signal which received by the micro-controller. Micro-controller is programmed and calculate the distance from the received signal by Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The obtained results are transferred to the data base by micro-controller via internet source. This system provides incessant monitoring and tracking for tools in aircraft maintenance.Item Environmental Impacts of Aviation (Municipal Solid Waste Management)(UMT, Lahore, 2019) Muhammad Saad Hassan, Faisal Abbas and Muhammad Hassan NadeemAviation industry is rapidly growing with the passage of time.
