It is a qualitative study. The main question of the study is "What kind of school-based in-service training is going on in various school categories in Lahore"? The general purpose of the study was to provide useful information that can give insight to the teachers' trainers and curriculum designers of teacher education. Four schools are selected for the purpose of this study: School working in public sector School serving poor class (private) School working for middle class (private) School working in posh areas (elite class) The findings of the study are very interesting. It has indicated different existing pattern in the different categories of schools. The study indicated certain similarities and certain differences in the sample schools. All categories of school administration believe in "continuous teachers' training." For this reason the head teachers prefer those teachers who have received pre-service training. The sample schools also indicate that training should be continuous and meeting with the changing demands. Government School, in lower middle class, indicated that the concept of "School-Based Training" was not implemented there. The investigation relating to middle and elite class schools shows that range of school-based training is wider there. In the poor class, also, a very narrow base of SBT is available. Faculty of Educational Management and Technology (FEMT), Institute of Leadership and Management, Ali Institute of Education (AIE) and Beacon House School System have been already arranging workshops in their In service Training Programs for head teachers so that they may implement school based training in their respective schools. It comes out from the study that awareness about the school-based training strategies among administrators can lead to better School Based Training (SBT) structureItem EC-website creator (ECWSC)(UMT, Lahore, 2001) Saqib Noveed Awan; Nisdr Anwar; Rashid Latif; Hassan Bin AllItem Leadership styles as viewed by secondary school head teachers of Lahore city(UMT, Lahore, 2001) ABDUL GHAFFAR SHEIKHThe primary purpose of the study was to determine the degree of leadership styles of Govt. and private (registered) secondary school headteachers of Lahore City. It was further proposed that how teachers can understand the effects of punishment and explore the possible alternatives to it. The study was conducted in a school of Lahore, where four teachers were involved as participants. fhe study revealed that, in the technical sense of what punishment would mean, it is not real to deny completely the use of punishment in schools as a strategy or technique to adjust pupil's, misbehavior. The terms misbehavior, discipline and punishment have been a common language in schools such that they can be explained together as if one influences the other. Some teachers looked into punishment as these actions involving physical situations. They were not able to assess psychological punishment, which sometimes could be more damaging than physical punishment. But also, their perceptions suggested that there are some vivid examples that teachers can organize classes without tension of punishment, and though punishment may work, it should not be suggested to be used. In addition, although most teachers from the sample admitted how they remained skeptical about the use of punishment in the classroom, yet they could not do without it. At the same point, some teachers suggested the word punishment to be replaced, although meaning same practices. Some teacheis also expressed their concein about the negative effects of punishment in schools. However, they accepted the continuance of some practices, and felt that particular modes of punishment might help in behavior management. The effects of punishments however covered social, academic and moral aspects where, when a student tends to avoid one kind of punishment, one of these aspects was affected. For this reason also, some of the suggested alternatives to punishments were more or less other forms of punishments. For the shaping of pupil's behavior, teacher's efforts are required. Where teachers need to organize classes, which are conducive enough for learning, and guidance and counseling sessions in schools, were suggested as alternatives, which can help avoid punishmentItem Absenteeism of students at secondary level in Toba Tek Singh(UMT, Lahore, 2001) Noor AhmedThe purpose of study was to asses the Absenteeism of Students at Secondary Level. The research instrument utilized a questionnaire to collect data from 24 Secondary School head teachers through stratified random sampling from 102 Secondary Schools of Lahore Cantt. The questionnaire consisted of 22 items representing the school ecology in different aspects. Statistical tests carried out were the t-Test and Chi Square for determining significance of different mean values between groups. The study found that headteachers' perceptions about school ecology and its effects on students' achievement and leaming were moderate and their perceptions of school ecology were generally average. The study also foimd a relationship between school ecology and students' leaming. The study found that schools based on ecological approaches provide the best leaming environment for students. Based on the review of the related literature, a questionnaire was developed consisting of 14 situations with possible options. The researcher personally administered the questionnaire to 20 Heads of the Primary Schools in Lahore managed by the private sector. These schools were randomly selected. The study shows that EQ carries an exceptional importance for the leaders, especially in the field of education. This is because emotions are contagious and their flow is from top to bottom. EQ is directly proportional to experience, i.e., greater the experience the more is the EQ. This is due to the fact that EQ can be learned and developed during the course of time. According to the detailed analysis of data, the findings are that 60% of the school heads have average EQ, where as 35% of the respondents have high EQ and the remaining 5% have low EQ.
