Abstract
The Primary Purpose of the study was to determine the degree of teachers' viewpoints about homework assignments of primary school children in Lahore Cantt. The scope of the study was limited to all the primary school teachers who had been working in different male and female high schools of Lahore Cantt. Six hypotheses were formulated for the study. All the hypotheses were related to the demographic variables like; sex, age, marital status, experience, professional qualification and social status. Item-by-item analysis of the questionnaire was made focusing on the twenty-five dimensions of the homework assignments. The population of the study consisted of 706 primary school teachers of Lahore Cantt. Stratified random sampling was used incorporating six principles of classification; sex, age, marital status experience, professional qualification and social status of the teachers. The total sample size consisted of ICQ teachers was drawn out from 706 teachers. A questionnaire of twenty-five items was used as a research instrument. Out of the six hypotheses, five null hypotheses were upheld and one null hypothesis was rejected. It was concluded, that no significant differences were found between male and female, younger and older, married and un-married, less experienced and more experienced, less professionally qualified and more professionally qualified primary school teachers' view points in respect of home work assignments of primary school children in Lahore Cantt, but a significant difference was found between urban and rural primary school teachers' view points in respect of homework assignments of primary school children in Lahore Cantt. In the item analysis it was found, (1) that teachers favored homework, (2) that homework was beneficial at all level ability of students, (3) that homework developed creative ability among students, (4) that students became self directed and independent learner. The dimensions of the homework on which the teachers showed dissatisfaction were, (1) that assignments were complicated, boring and un interesting, (2) that magnitude of the homework was very high, (3) there was a lack of co-ordination among the teachers, students and parents. Data was analyzed by "t" test and "Chi-Square". Topic was listed for further needed research.
