Item Effect of Music Therapy on the Emotional Problems of Children with Cerebral Palsy(University of Management & Technology, 2018) Mukhtar, BushraMusic therapy is one of many therapies that have been introduced to deal with children having different issues. Music therapy has been executed in treatment programs for children who have suffered from strokes, intellectual, behavioral, emotional and different issues. This study was investigated to highlight the role of music therapy in improving the emotional problems of children with cerebral palsy. The Research method was descriptive because the type of research was quantitative in nature. A sample of 126 children with cerebral palsy was purposively selected from 40 public and private special education Centre/institutes. The Instrument for the study was a self-developed questionnaire with three-point rating scale which was faced validated as well as trial tested to determine its reliability. Data generated from the respondents were analyzed using Mean, Standard deviation and independent t-test, and ANOVA statistics. The results showed that music therapy had significant effects on the emotional problems of children with cerebral palsy. It showed that they experienced many emotions ranging from happiness to shyness to excitement. It also helped them communicate more and helped compensate for their lack of ability in some areas.Item Level of Expertise of Paraprofessionals in Managing Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder(University of Management & Technology, 2017) Momna AmirParaprofessionals have become the backbone of special education classes providing services for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Stratton, 2014). Many students with ASD struggle with challenging behaviors that may not only affect their learning environment but the learning environment for all students in their classroom. Paraprofessionals play an important and dynamic role in supporting behavioral and educational opportunities for students with Autism and in helping to make the implementation of instructional activities more efficient and effective. Unfortunately, paraprofessionals are hired with little or no previous experience in working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The purpose of this study is two-fold, one is to explore the skills a paraprofessional need to have to take care of the children with ASD and secondly to determine the degree of competence they owned in their skills. A total of 82 participants were selected from which 7 were the principals of different special schools and 75 were paraprofessionals. Total 16 schools were selected for collecting data for this study. This was a mixed method research in which quantitative phase was developed on the basis of qualitative phase. Thematic technique was used to analyze qualitative data whereas descriptive statistics and ANOVA were used to analyze quantitative data. Overall results of this study shows that paraprofessionals have moderate to high level of expertise in managing children with Autism.Item School Readiness For Inclusive Education In Abbottabad District(University of Management & Technology, 2018) Sonia Fareed KhanAs the last few decades have witnessed a broad international movement towards the development of inclusive schools. The ultimate aim of the study is to find out the school readiness for inclusive education and inclusion practices in mainstream schools by exploring the level of awareness and to analyze the attitude and teaching strategies which are being in practice for the children with special needs in a mainstream classroom. The current study aims to investigate the school readiness for inclusion in Abbottabad district. The objectives of the study are to highlight the major component in which the schools are ready for inclusive education, investigate the status of the implementation within each component of school readiness, explore the head teacher's readiness for the implementation of inclusive education, explore the pro-active role of school head teachers to make their school inclusive, explain the challenges which head teachers are facing in order to implement the inclusion in Abbottabad district. The readiness was evaluated on the basis of quality components for effective inclusion. This was a mixed method research in which sequential exploratory research strategy (Qual-Quant) was used to conduct this study. The researcher used quantitative and qualitative research design and to collect data from head teachers and teachers working in the public and private sectors in Abbottabad. The population of the study was head teachers and the teachers working in public and private schools in district Abbottabad. The researcher used purposive sampling to select the sample from the population. A total of 300 participants were selected as sample, from which 15 head teachers from the public sector and 15 were from the private sector and 133 teachers were from the public sector and 137 teachers from the private sector. The first phase of the study was qualitative in which in-depth interviews were conducted to explore the perception of head teachers about inclusive education and their level of readiness to implement inclusion in their schools. The second phase was quantitative in which a questionnaire was used to collect data from teachers. The quantitative tool was adapted with the consent of the researcher who developed it. The adapted questionnaire is developed on the basis of “Quality components for effective inclusion education guidebook” (NJCIE, 2010), focuses on eleven quality components for effective inclusive education for the teachers. The Cronbach alpha coefficient was .89. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data obtained from the survey. The survey instrument was analyzed based on the frequency distribution of responses to each question given in the questionnaire. The study revealed that major component in which schools are ready for inclusive education is program implementation and assessment. The study revealed the status of the implementation within each component which shows that status of implementation within each area in schools of district Abbottabad is not satisfactory. Head teachers are not ready for the implementation of inclusive education in the schools. Even though head teachers are not ready for the implementation of inclusive education but still there are some head teachers those playing active role in order to make their schools inclusive. The major challenges faced by the head teachers in order to implement the inclusive education is that there is no educational policy regarding inclusive education by their provincial government and in their admission policy doesn't allow them to give admission to a child with special needs. This study recommends that educational policies of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should be revised and Inclusive education should be part of it. Collaborative efforts of Government and private sectors should be made in order to implement inclusive education.Item Legal Needs of Visually Challenged Persons in Punjab(University of Management & Technology, 2018) Rana Muhammad TahirPakistan, is the seventh largest most populous country having population of 130.58 million, among the most populous countries of the world. However, concerning about to literacy it ranks on 160th, setting them at the 55 percentiles for proficiency around the globe (PakistanMinistry of Finance, 2003). The present study intended to: 1); investigate the legal needs of visually challenged persons in Punjab. 2); Highlight the major legal needs of visually challenged persons in Punjab. 3); Find the effect of demographic factors on legal needs of visually challenged persons in Punjab. The research method was quantitative in nature. A questionnaire was formulated for this study. In this study industrial worker (n=320) from the selected for the survey. The results of the quantitative survey were analyzed through SPSS. Mean and frequencies were calculated. ANOVA was used to calculate the significance. It was concluded that visually challenged persons has keen interests related to their legal needs. It is the need of the hour that the Government should address these legal needs immediately on a priority basis. Further researches can be conducted to find out the basic needs of the visually challenged persons in Punjab (Pakistan).Item Effectiveness of the Curriculum Taught in Government Institutions for Mentally Challenged Children in Lahore(University of Management & Technology, 2017) Saima ShiraziThe goal of special education in the current era is more towards effectiveness rather than access. The analysis of the effectiveness of curriculum and other procedures employed for teaching is of paramount importance. The research conducted currently was aimed to find the effectiveness of curriculum for mentally challenged children in government schools. The objectives of the study included the intended to investigate the effectiveness of mentally challenged children in government schools of Lahore. The study will also explore and compare the perception of parents and teachers about the effectiveness of curriculum. Furthermore, the study will highlight the gaps in implementation of curriculum and lastly, the differences in curriculum effectiveness on the basis of school years, the children have attended, will also be underlined. Case study design was triangulation method research. Fifteen cases were selected, and data was collected by using a checklist filled by their teachers, parents and after that the observations of MCC were recorded to compare the responses of parents and teachers and to pinpoint the gaps in implementation of curriculum effectively. The data was analyzed qualitatively by using thematic analysis. The frequencies were also calculated to report the results of checklist. The data analysis is comprised in two sections. First section is explaining the descriptive information about the sample of the study. The second section will answer the research questions one by one. opinions of parents and teachers. According to qualitative results, teaching method, implementation of curriculum goals. The researcher suggested the use of technology, alternate teaching strategies, increased maturity level of teachers, interaction with students needs further improvement, and a solid monitoring techniques for this system.Item JOB SATISFACTION OF PERSONS WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT EMPLOYED AT PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR(University of Management and Technology, 2018) Yasin, MariaJob satisfaction closely related to one’s feelings about job. An environment where people find recognition and gratification leads towards job satisfaction. This study was carried out to examine the job satisfaction of persons with hearing impairment employed at public and private sector. The research design was descriptive. The population of the study was comprised of employees with hearing impairment from public and private sector. The purposive sampling technique was used to select sample. A sample of 100 employees with hearing impairment was selected from public and private organizations of Lahore. On the basis of literature review a self constructed instrument was designed, validity and reliability issues of instrument were insured through pilot study. The reliability of instrument was .76. The data collected from respondents were analyzed. On the basis of data analysis, it was found that people with hearing impairment working in public sector were more satisfied than the private sector employees with hearing impairment. It was also concluded that the employees with hearing impairment of private sector were not satisfied regarding their job incentive system and reward. The respondents of private sector were not satisfied about their working conditions and accommodations for deaf employees. Private organizations should provide satisfactory working environment to their employees with hearing impairment.Item Perception of students with special needs about quality inclusive education at higher education in university of management and technology (UMT) Lahore(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Lubna TareenAny student with or without special needs has an equal right to acquire education in any institution whether it is school, college or university. The purpose of the study was to explore facilities provided by the University of Management and Technology Lahore to the students with special needs. The study was descriptive in nature. Population of the study was all the students with special needs in public and private universities of Lahore. Total twenty students were enrolled in UMT and were conveniently selected, sample was twenty students with special needs in UMT. A questionnaire was developed by the researcher to measure the opinions of students with special needs at University of Management and Technology Lahore campus. Data was collected by the researcher personally. The collected data was tabulated and analyzed using SPSS. For the better understanding of collected data percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation, Chi-Square test, t-Test and ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The overall results of the study indicated that University of Management and Technology is providing all basic facilities required by any student having special needs. At the end, researcher recommended that, universities should train their employees to deal with students with special needs, not only the higher authorities but even their supporting staffs as well.Item Challenges faced by parents in treating behavior problems of autistic children(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Sabeen SaifThis study investigates the challenges faced by parents in treating the behavior problems of Autistic children. Using a quantitative research method, the researcher collected the data through parents of ASD children. All the children were male and female between the ages of 3- 17 years. As for pilot study, the 20 participants were selected. As for the main study, 106 parents were selected who have autistic children and facing many difficulties in treating their problems. And the selection criteria of parents of autistic probands was their child should be clinically diagnosed with autism and having a lot of behavior problems. Data was analyzed by the 6 domains of behaviors problems. The questionnaire was designed by the researcher of 53 items which are based on the behavior problems of Autism. Results indicate that the parents are facing many problems of autistic children but the behavior issue is highest issues among all issues. The social interaction is the biggest challenge for parents and family. The parents all around the world consider social interaction as a biggest challenge because it must be present in every child so he or she may be able to survive in the society. Their behavior problems are affected the life style of family and personal relationship between the parents. Mothers of autistic children suffer more behavior problems than fathers because they deal the children at home and spend more time with them. Behavior problems are more prevalent in males because 1 in 64 boys have autism and they tease more to their families. There is a correlation between the age and behavior problems of autistic children. The marital status has effect on the child behavior problems. Results shows that the child's gender also has effect on behavioral problems. Parents are now aware of these behavior problems and trying to cope through it so their child can be a part of the society.Item Challenges faced by teachers in teaching students with visual impairment in inclusive higher education(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Shazia Iram BukhariThe purpose of the study was to find out the challenges faced by teachers in teaching visual impaired student in inclusive education at higher level. Inclusion of students with visual impairment is a topic of ongoing debates. Supporters of inclusive education stated that students with visual impairment (SVI) should be educated at higher level. There are many challenges in educating these students at higher level. It is the dire need of the hour to find out these challenges and evolve strategies to eliminate these challenges. The main objective of the study was to explore different types of attitudinal, administrational, financial and policy challenges perceived by the teachers of higher education of Lahore city in including SVI in their universities and to suggest measures to eliminate these challenges. The type of research was descriptive. The population of the study was university teachers of Lahore city. Researcher has conveniently selected a sample of 120 university teachers of 6 universities of Lahore. Researcher collected data from 120 teacher of higher education of following college & universities of Lahore: University of the Punjab, University of Management & Technology, Training College for the Blind Teachers, Government College University of Lahore, Education University and Lahore College University. In this study researcher developed a questionnaire as a tool for data collection. Researcher has made 48 statements that were close ended with 5 point Likert scale. The researcher validated the instrument by taking expert opinion and piloted it on 20 Universities teachers to check the reliability of instrument. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability of the instrument was.889. Researcher collected the data personally from Lahore city. The researcher used SPSS, computer software for analysis of data. Researcher has used descriptive statistics to see the frequencies of universities teachers about challenges in the inclusion of SVI at higher level. Researcher has applied independent samples. test, one way analysis of varience to see the significant differences on the basis of gender and designation of universities teachers. The independent sample t.test equality of means(t= -.933, df=112 and sig= .328)shows that there is no significance difference in the problems faced by teachers in teaching students with visual impairment in inclusive education at higher level on the basis of the gender. The research of study indicated that lack of resources, lack of provision of teachers training, lacking in disability orientation, lack of proper policy in Pakistanand limited financial resources are the major challenges that are causing problem in implementation of inclusive education at higher educationItem A study of intervention practices for children with autism in Lahore(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2015) Bilal, Sadia; Asad, AmmaraThis study is conducted to investigate the interventionpractices being used for autism in Lahore. The objectives of the study were; identification of intervention practices being used for autism in special schools, centers and hospital providing intervention services to children with autism, at Lahore, exploring the most frequently used intervention for autism, highlighting the training needs of teachers, professional to provide the intervention effectively to children with autism. Sample of the study was selected by using purposive sampling technique, 213 teachers and professionals dealing with autism at special schools, centers and hospitals situated in Lahore. A questionnaire was developed on the basis of related literature which is comprised on 28 close-ended items and two open-ended questions. The researchers collected data from special schools, centers and hospitals from public and private sectors. The data was analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). It was concluded that professionals are providing intervention to children with autism by using eclectic approach.Item Problems faced by parents in promoting inclusion for their children with learning disabilities(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Masood, RoheenaTopic of the research was the study of the problem faced by parents in promoting inclusion for their children with learning disabilities. The aim of the study was to explore the problems which parents faced when they promote inclusive education for their children with learning disabilities. The sample of the study was taken from the parents whose children were enrolled in special schools under the judiciary of Punjab Government in Lahore city. It was descriptive study and was conducted with the help of questionnaire. The questioner was developed by the researcher and which reached the acceptable level of reliability. The main object of the study was to know about the perception and problems faced by parents in promoting inclusion. This study will help of researcher quoted in the study parents can get guidance for improvement. The data was collected by the researcher .Than it was analyzed and interpreted through SPSS. The sample consists of 47 parents whose children are enrolled in special school present in Lahore city under the judiciary of Punjab Government. Reliability statistics showed that the instrument was reliable because it was reported 0.882. One sample t test was applied to see the significant difference among the opinions of respondents and following variables age, number of children, qualification and gender. According to results researcher conclude that awareness must be spread about inclusion and policy should be made by government to implement inclusive education.Item Effects of electronic media on the development of Adaptive behavior in children with Mental retardation(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2015) Ijaz, MaimonaThis study is specifically concerned with the effects of electronic media on the development of adaptive behavior in children with mental retardation. The objectives of the study are for identification of the most common type of electronic media among children with MR, number of hours spend by the MR children on electronic media, influence of electronic media on children’s adaptive behavior.It was a descriptive study. The population of the study includes the students of 5 schools of children with mental retardation in Lahore city. From the population the total sample consisted of 161 students were drawn. The instrument was developed on the basis of the hypothetical framework by the researcher herself, and translated in Urdu.Cronbach’s Alpha value of the instrument was .97 which means that the instrument was reliable. It was concluded on the basis of research that the TV and video game are most common types of electronic media among MRC and cartoon are watched by most of MRC than any other programs.The results also show Doraemonis the most watched cartoons on the TV by the children and most of MRC play Car Racing video games. It is concluded that most of the MRC watch TV, watch cartoons and play video games for one to two hours. The study further indicates that there is a significant difference in the mean values of adaptive behavior and TV programs watch by MRC. (df = 2, F = 7.223, Sig. = .001).As we find in this study that the most common type of electronic media access by the MRC is TV(99.4%) so it has an effect on the adaptive behavior of the MRC.Item A study of barriers perceived by teachers in including children with autism in inclusive classroom(University of Management and Technology, 2017) Rafique, BushraThis study investigated teachers perceived obstacles of children as autism in normal classroom define and express their quality of life. The main research questions of the study are: What barriers are being faced by teachers while including autistics children in inclusive classrooms? What are the perceptions of teachers about inclusion of autistics children in inclusive classrooms?What types of measure should be taken by the teachers for inclusion of autistics children in regular classrooms? What type of researches can be conducted in future to help teachers and administrators for inclusion of autistics children in normal classrooms? Using a mixed technique research, the researcher collected data through from teachers with autism in regular classroom. All of the teachers were male and female’s .this study was descriptive homework and availability give questionnaire to gather quantitative data. The study discovered that the teachers at work in the normal education schools have not got proper training to work with the autistics students. The study usually describe that lack of knowledge, lack of appropriate training, lack of in service training among teachers, are extremely supplementary with teachers’ observed barriers in teaching autistics children in regular classes. In addition the accessibility of school organization does not report the requirements of all student. Curriculum, equipment’s, teaching learning supports and assessment approaches also not requirement to be deliver accommodations. Principals and teachers have diverse opinions about the success of inclusive education system in schools. We recommended that government may allocate more financial and technical capitals to train teachers and afford technological tools if they want to integrate students with special needs into regular classroomsItem A study of perception of teachers in rural areas about inclusive education for children with special need(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2014) Gulnaz AkhterThe purpose of this study was to identify perceptions of teachers in rural areas about inclusive education for children with special needs. In this descriptive research, Researcher developed the Questionnaire on the basis of literature review and hypothetical framework. The questionnaire contained 25 items, which covered the different aspects of teacher's perception in rural areas about inclusive education for children with special needs. The data of 150 teachers were collected from different regular schools of rural areas of Punjab. The reliability of the instrument was found as 0.82. The data was analyzed by using SPSS. The results indicated strong agreement about including children with special needs in regular classrooms. The findings also revealed that the perception of teachers is positively correlated to their age and experience. The more experience the teachers have the more positive they are about inclusive education.Item Parents attitudes towards inclusive education to their children with special needs(UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY, 2015) Amna Majeed; Zunaira KhalilInclusive education is an emerging field of study. Parents, teachers and other proessionals have different percetions about inclusive education. The present study aimed to know the views of parents of children with and without special needs about inclusive education. The objectives of the study were to investigate the attitudes of parents towards inclusive education, compare the attitudes of both parents of children with and without special needs towards inclusive education and highlight the factors which influence their perception.The sample of the study was 150 parents of children with and without special needs(with disability 75 and without disability 75) were selected from different inclusive schools of Lahore. For the purpose of this study researchers developed a questionnaire on the basis of literature review, and was pilot tested on 10 parents. The data was analyzed by using SPSS. Descriptive statistics were calculated and conclusions were drawn. The major findings of the study were: a) parents of children without special needs are more in favor of inclusive education as compared to parents of children with special needs , b) negative correlation exists between age of parents and their attitude towards inclusive education and c) The attitude of parents change on the basis of school in which their children are included. There has been a growing evidence indicated a strong influence of perceived societal attitude, particularly in respect to their personality characteristics. The present study attempted to examine big five personality characteristics of persons with hearing impairment in relation to their perceived societal attitude towards them. The aim of the present study was to highlight the personality traits of persons with hearing impairment and how these traits affected by perceived societal attitude. The sample of the study were 200 persons with hearing impairment from 5 different schools of persons with hearing impairment in Lahore. Correlation Analysis showed significant positive correlation of neuroticism, extraversion and negative societal attitude.results also revealed that who have hearing impairment by birth have traits of extraversion and openness. The major goal of this research was to describe how socio-economic status affects parenting styles. The objectives of the study were to Highlight the specific parenting styles on the basis of different socio-economic status, Investigate the effect of socio-economic status on parenting styles to children with hearing impairment and Highlight the differences in parenting styles on the basis of socioeconomic classes. The study was based on causal-comparative research method and it was descriptive in nature. The sample of the study was 400 parents of children with hearing impairment. The sample was selected by using purposive sampling technique. The researcher collected data from six schools of children with hearing impairment based in Lahore. The data was analyzed by using SPSS. Descriptive statistics were calculated and conclusions were drawn. AVONA was used to see the differences in parenting styles among various socio-economic classes. The major finding of the research included, a) Upper middle class is more authoritarian than lower upper class, b)working lower class is more authoritative, c) working class and lower class are more permissive.Item Identification of learning styles of students with hearing impairment at elementary level in Lahore(UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY, 2015) Samad, Nadia; Hamid, MariaThis study was about identification of learning styles of students with hearing impairment at elementary level in Lahore. The study was descriptive in nature. For this purpose the researchers collected data through convenient sampling from 220 samples (i.e. elementary students with hearing impairment) of seven schools of hearing impaired children in Lahore city. The objectives of the study were to identify the learning styles of the hearing impaired students, to find out the mean difference between learning styles of hearing impaired students due to difference in socio-economic status, to discover the mean contrast between learning styles of listening to weakened understudies because of distinction in their age gathering, to explore the mean distinction between learning styles of listening to disabled understudies because of distinction in their listening to misfortune., to discover the mean distinction between learning styles of listening to weakened understudies because of contrast in their schools and to figure out the mean contrast between learning styles of listening to hindered understudies because of contrast in their evaluation at rudimentary level in schools of Lahore. On the basis of hypothetical framework the instrument was developed to collect the data. The respondent responded against a five level scale (strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree and strongly disagree). After data collection it was tabulated and analyzed with the help of SPSS. The result was concluded that the Visual (.000) and Kinesthetic/Tactile (.000) learning styles were practiced in hearing impaired schools of Lahore. The impact of demographic variable ‘socioeconomic’ (.000) showed a significant difference with kinesthetic /tactile learning style at elementary students with hearing impairment. This study used a sample of parents and their children’s teachers. The methodology that was used in this study was questionnaires comprised of different questions. Result indicated a statistically significantasossiation between parent’s involvement and a child’s academic performance. Lack of parent’s involvement may have a negative impact on student’s performance in and out of school or home. Teachers along with parents need to play a major role in connecting classrooms, homes, and school for achieving better results.Item A study of voices of students with special needs in inclusive classrooms(University of Management and Technology, 2015) Saima ShiraziThis research was conducted to pinpoint the challenges faced by students with special needs in inclusive classrooms. The study highlighted the major problems including social, emotional and academic problems, faced by SWSN in inclusive classroom and recommended the possible solutions. The study was conducted in two phases consisting of observations and interviews as tools of data collection. The study further focused on parameters such as classroom environment, peer pressure, teacher behavior, curriculum needs and financial backgrounds of students. This study concludes that although SWSN face some common problems, but they develop a better sense of belonging and confidence if they become a part of inclusive classrooms. This study was conducted in the schools of Lahore, city of Punjab for the purpose of understanding the needs of special students in inclusive classrooms. The data were collected from various selected institutes with inclusive education in Lahore city. The first hand data collection allowed a detailed analysis of the unique challenges faced by SWSN and facilitated in drawing the conclusions which helped predict the best possible solutions for these problems.
