Abstract
The purpose of the study was to find out the challenges faced by teachers in teaching visual impaired student in inclusive education at higher level. Inclusion of students with visual impairment is a topic of ongoing debates. Supporters of inclusive education stated that students with visual impairment (SVI) should be educated at higher level. There are many challenges in educating these students at higher level. It is the dire need of the hour to find out these challenges and evolve strategies to eliminate these challenges.
The main objective of the study was to explore different types of attitudinal, administrational, financial and policy challenges perceived by the teachers of higher education of Lahore city in including SVI in their universities and to suggest measures to eliminate these challenges.
The type of research was descriptive. The population of the study was university teachers of Lahore city. Researcher has conveniently selected a sample of 120 university teachers of 6 universities of Lahore. Researcher collected data from 120 teacher of higher education of following college & universities of Lahore: University of the Punjab, University of Management & Technology, Training College for the Blind Teachers, Government College University of Lahore, Education University and Lahore College University. In this study researcher developed a questionnaire as a tool for data collection. Researcher has made 48 statements that were close ended with 5 point Likert scale.
The researcher validated the instrument by taking expert opinion and piloted it on 20
Universities teachers to check the reliability of instrument. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability of the instrument was.889. Researcher collected the data personally from Lahore city.
The researcher used SPSS, computer software for analysis of data. Researcher has used descriptive statistics to see the frequencies of universities teachers about challenges in the inclusion of SVI at higher level. Researcher has applied independent samples. test, one way analysis of varience to see the significant differences on the basis of gender and designation of universities teachers. The independent sample t.test equality of means(t= -.933, df=112 and sig= .328)shows that there is no significance difference in the problems faced by teachers in teaching students with visual impairment in inclusive education at higher level on the basis of the gender. The research of study indicated that lack of resources, lack of provision of teachers training, lacking in disability orientation, lack of proper policy in Pakistanand limited financial resources are the major challenges that are causing problem in implementation of inclusive education at higher education
