Item Analysis of warehouse management system(UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY, 2015) Muhammad Saeed Usman; Muaaz ShahidIn warehouses, there are several problems regarding to Warehouse Management, Customers Services, Material Handling and Customer Order Fulfillment. In this project we will analyze the processes involved in warehousing including customer order, storage system and Logistics then sort out the problems, which causes extra cost or time and try to eliminate them by comparing them with other leading warehousing systems.Item Assembly line efficiency improvement using value stream mapping(University of Management and Technology, 2014) Abbas Amin, Muhammad; Umair Bari, MuhammadOur report wishes to present a strategy used to create an image about the informational and material flows of products and services. In this report, value stream mapping (VSM) is applied in textile unit i.e Stylers International (Pvt) Ltd. located in Lahore. This factory deals with Denim. Value stream mapping is applied by identifying Key Performance Indicators (KPI). Six KPIs are identified and then all work is carried out in identifying them and in second phase efforts are applied in improving these KPIs. KPIs identified are 1) Transportation 2) Lead Time 3) Waiting Time 4) Work in process 5) Defects 6) Efficiency. After identifying these KPIs, Value Stream Map of current scenario of factory is developed based on data collected regarding these KPIs. By drawing the value stream maps of Basic Jean assembly line non-value added (NVA) operations were determined and then they were eliminated in the improved case. Lean principles are applied in determining loop holes and solutions are presented. Proposed best solutions of all KPIs are reproduced according to the Lean approach. Results are quantified in comparison with current state data. After all KPIs are reproduced and reset then again Value Stream Map is drawn that map is termed as Proposed Future State Map. It is shown that efforts on effective use of resources with prevention of waste in their source increase value added (VA) operations and also efficiency. This study also emphasizes the VSM’s important role in the textile sectors’ assembly line.Item CNC desktop machining center (prototype)(University of Management and Technology, 2015) Anwar, HaseebThis final year project describes the design and development of computer numeric control. For this purpose, I used driver board, Motors and software to control this machines hardware. In this report details of the design criteria of hardware, principle of operation as well as the testing and verification of the systems are presented. While performing this project my main focus was on gaining an improved understanding of machining and the different factors that contribute to part quality. For this purpose, primary machine shop skills had to be acquired that provided me an opportunity to mill and drill a class of components to specified dimensions. Before I started for each component, a detailed drawing was created that was helpfulin shaping and constructing all the components.Item Cost benefit analysis of automated storage & retrieval system for car parking(UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY, 2015) Zain -Ul-Abideen; Muhammad Ehsan Ghani Khan; Muhammad Irfan; Mohsin RasoolThe growing number of cars in Pakistani metropolitans is adding to vehicular emission, congestion and exerts tremendous pressure on limited available parking space. It is impossible to provide more space in the old constructed markets. This affects the people adversely in every area; especially the commercial activities, as people are hesitant to shop at markets where car parking is not possible. It adds to the anxiety, frustration, safety and security problems. So the need of the better parking solution is acute. An automatic parking is space saving and cost effective alternative and at the same time resolves traffic congestion issues, minimize accidents on roads and other stress injuries.Item Economic and general analysis of quality defects and their solutions of pet gourmet bottles(2016) Naseer, Zaeem; Ahmed, Waheed; Awais, MuhammadDespite abundant evidence that there are some issues regarding bursting of bottles due to some major factors like quality defects before and after manufacturing, but unfortunately there is presently no major study that focuses on the theme. The main aim of the current thesis is to examine the product and the main reason of neck & base crack issue in the final product. This can be done by analyzing the reaction of different sections & plant of the factory. While focusing on the period between 2015 and 2016 the thesis traces the evolution of the neck & base crack issue dating back to 2010. The thesis also shows how the conditions will affect the quality of raw material & final product. In parallel, the thesis explores the quality defects on preforms & bottles after getting manufactured. This was strongly indicated from the 2010 that this problem will increased and definitely will target the market value and sales. To highlights the main reason of problem, humidity was concluded as the main reason for this issue. The central argument of the thesis, therefore, is effect of humidity on preforms & bottles and the after products. The thesis contends that by controlling the humidity we can control this issue of neck & base crack because it mostly occurs during the humid season from June to September. Getting data from all warehouses & by noticing all the parameters suggested by original equipment manufacturer the data was collected to investigate the reason behind this serious issue. Also, help from the technical team of the original equipment manufacturer was taken. The site visits were arranged so that they can have a brief and comprehension visit of the plants and to find out the main reasons behind the fault. After all the investigation and more than 1 year of hard work, they were all able to come to a conclusion that this problem was occurred, more or less, due to the factor of humidity. Finally, this thesis observes that the main problems lies in controlling the environment on all the plants like injection molding plant where preforms are manufactured & blow mold where bottles and final products are being manufactured and also the warehouses where the final product is kept. Moreover, this thesis also observe the wrong parameters used in manufacturing. After all the investigation, completion of action plans and remedies taken the company was able to reduce the defect to 95% expectedly. This could be a big achievement.Item Efficiency improvement of combustion engine(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2014) Muhammad Ammar HussainThe purpose of doing this project was to increase the efficiency of engines.Various experiments were done to find optimum amount of hydrogen gas.Different materials were used as electrodes to find out which material is more efficient,longer life and less harmful for the environment.While doing experiments different kinds of problems occured i.e burning of electrodes,burning of rubber,non-suitablity of materials and much more.Item Eliminating the unnecessary operation in the production line to change the die design of under shock cover of CD-70(University of Management and Technology, 2014) Naseer Ahmed; Zia Ur RehmanDeep drawing process is a sheet metal forming process where a punch is utilized to force a flat sheet metal (blank) to flow into the gap between the punch and die surfaces. As a result, the blank can be formed into the various shapes. A sheet metal may be drawn into simple cylindrical-, conic- and boxed-shaped part and also complicated parts which normally require redrawing processes using progressive dies. Deep drawing is a popular selection due to its rapid press cycle times. Its capability of producing complicated axisymmetric geometries and several non-axisymmetric geometries in few operations with low technical labors requirement is also an advantage in manufacturing applications. Examples of deep drawing applications include containers of all shapes, sinks, beverage cans, automotive body and structural parts and aircraft panels. The important variables which affect the formability and outcomes of deep drawing can be grouped into two categories: Material and friction factors; and tooling and equipment factors. Proper selection of these variables is crucial in deep drawing to maximize the formability of the sheet metal while reducing undesirable outcomes which includes earing and defects such as wrinkling.Item Energy audit and economic analysis of mechanical production unit(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Ahsan, Saqib; Tahir, Awais; Shah, JawadIn this project, we have conducted an Energy Audit& Economic Analysis of Mechanical Production Unit that consents us to study the energy being utilized in Hussain Tech Pvt. Limited(Al-Ghani Industrial Estate Lahore). We have premeditated every single device and appliance being used there and the frequencies of utilization of devices that consume electricity and incur a cost. By using a variety of techniques, including Surveys, Data Collection and Monitoring Appliances we analyze the usage of energy and find the optimal energy requirement throughout the organization. That finally leads us to effectively suggest some Ideas and Solution for cost reduction after brainstorming and research session. The basic purpose of this project is to develop a potential of cost savings of energy as cost incurred in administration, production and other activities included in the process. Every now and then we hear such activities at both national and international level. Self-protection has always been a primary concern of any human being. The present state of our country can be best explained by the phrase “Kill or get killed”. In this current scenario of Pakistan, it is essential for everyone to have the means to save himself and his loved one from any mishaps caused by such activities. People are being victims of target killings, bomb blasts etc. Considering this situation we have come up with an idea to provide protection to people and their belongings. Our project is basically an experimental study on the use of disposed of tires as armors against bullets, shrapnel and any type of ballistic projectiles. We have used Single Factor Design to do experiments on tire strips which would be able to stop bullets of a pistol. The fundamental approach in this experiment is the orientation in which tire strips are used to stop the bullets. The tires strips contain steel wires mesh which provides extra strength to rubber. The use rubber is also beneficial because of its properties like Viscoelasticity, good friction etc.Item Fabrication of continuous mode biomass gasifier reactor for thermal application(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Aleeza Fatima; Muhammad Azeem Ashraf; Omer MunirAs we were doing our final year project, our main objective is to convert agricultural-waste into a useful resource. We selected a preliminary design of continuous mode. We designed that model of gasifier on Solid Works designing software. Then we fabricate a Continuous mode Biomass Gasifier Reactor with improved thermal performance and low cost, by using local material and technology. It provideclean Fuel for thermal applications and economical energy solution for industrial and domestic purposes. The gas produced in gasifier could be used to generate electricity and also for continuous supply of gas for commercial purposes. Due to load shedding of natural gas industries have to suffer a big loss. We have used rice husk as biomass and made a special reactor fabricated from local machines and local materials in order to decrease the cost of gasifier.We have achieved high thermal efficiency from our reactor using gasification process which requires limited amount of air that has been provided by a DC fan. During experimentation phase we were facing difficulty in the process of gasification so we figure out the cause which is directly associated with the supply of air so we fabricate a tunnel for supply of sufficient air. By-product is a bio-char which can be used as a fertilizer because of enrichment of essential minerals like potassium and nitrogen and also be used for water filtration process.Item Graphene-Supercapacitor(University of Management and Technology, 2017) Haseeb Niazi; Azhar Shabbir; Sharib JameelThe evolution of human interactions and work activities is quite revolutionized in about last 2 decades. That is also the area in which the major lagging of revolution is found, as the best battery (Lithium Ion) of the age is subjected to catch fire or even catch fire under high temperature conditions and possess limited performance properties. Here comes the most feasible startup idea of innovating energy storage. The best bet turned out to be recently commercialized material, graphene. Kanban (see References) is an agile methodology for visualizing, managing and optimizing the flow of production a given application and for distributing the associated work among the development team. Kanban methodology should be used by the team itself for the Kanban Taskboard development. Hence organizations are besieged to lessen denial rate throughout the manufacturing processes by using diverse quality techniques, scrutiny all through dissimilar operations, instigating modifications and severe quality checkups where rate of imperfections are high. Extraordinary denial rate in garments due to diverse number of blemishes during sewing is key problem encountered by Ayesha Fabrics. This project holds significant importance from the industries perspective because of customer discontent and financial losses being faced by the organization. Lessening in the denial rate is the project in which it is effectively attempted to prompt-out bases along with numerous other factors by adopting Lean Six Sigma approach. It was certain to device Lean and DMAIC methodology in sewing department where extraordinary denial rate of stitched garments was detailed. A prime resolution will be proposed along with areas of enhancement with reduced denial rate and offer a noteworthy financial welfares.Item Implementation of RFID technology in live stock management(University of Management and Technology, 2016) Azeem, MuhammadSince past few year Dairy Industry in Pakistan dramatically grown, Major investors are investing in Dairy Farming and in result Many Corporate Dairy Farms developed since 2009 with capacity of minimum 2,000 Animals to 10,000 Animals, Data Belonging to Animals is backbone for any Dairy Farm It’s essential for any Dairy Farm to have up-to-date and correct data specially which can help evaluations of Animals Health, Milk Production, Reproduction, Animals are livestock and their identification has major role to keep them tracking specially 2,000 to 10,000 animals it’s very difficult to recognize animals without their ID. Normally Animals have Visual Ear Tags which shows Identification Number and it helps to track that Animal by viewing Identification number by Human eye, but when there is Large groups of Animals e.g. 5,000 Animals, it’s very difficult to check each Animal by visual Tags, record their Health Issues, Treatments, Calving, Reproduction, Milk, Feeding, Animals Sales, specially 4 Times Milking per day which mean 5,000 X 4 = 20,000 Animals Record per day only to record Milking. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) System is one which can solve this problem, RFID tags applies to each Animal’s ear, RFID Tag has unique Identification, by which we can track Animals Lifecycle. The reason of using RFID in Animals is that Animals are moving objects we can’t bound animals to be scan like Barcodes, to overcome this problem RFID is the best solution by using RFID as animal is free to move and when it comes at narrow path where RFID scanner is installed, Scanner interact with tag, electronically activates RFID Tag, hence RFID Tag send back its information carrying Identification number to scanner, scanner then send Identification to Database to extract, update Animals Record. This project is about RFID Implementation and Applications in a Live Stock Dairy Farm, which will present importance of RFID, need of RFID, its Different Applications, Environmental issues which effects read orientation, resolutions of issues, its draw backs. This project will mainly focus on RFID Implementation, different operations issues and applications in Dairy Farming.Item Implementation of work and method study in PEL industry(University of Management and Technology, 2014) Saif Shafiq; Tayeeb HassanThis World is now all about competition and with competition it becomes impossible for an organization to earn profits without increasing production rate, giving better quality and reducing the rejection rate of the manufactured products. All these things plays a very important role for customer satisfaction and financial conditions of any company. Company not doing these things is on low profits and it decreases the quality of a product Finally when all work is done a production run was made in order to make sure that the improvements being made does actually work or not and are they actually increase the production rate and providing the desired results. Due to lack of process performance in deep freezer assembly line we choose our project on work and method study. Firstly, we observe the layout of shop floor which is highly product type. We suggested them to combine different task in a station which were perform separately. In this we combine only those activities which are highly linked. In this way, process performance increased as cycle time of the process reduced. We suggested them to use automated U-type conveyor which reduce the labor and production time. We also suggested automated roller conveyor in pre heated chamber. In safety standard we suggested use of gloves, glasses, face mask, ear muffs and helmet.Item Improvement in yarn quality with the help of root cause analysis(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2014) Waseem Khalid; Syed M. Najam ul Hassan; M. Hussain HaiderSpinning is the process of changing of fiber into yarn. The spinning mills includes many processes like cotton mixing, carding, combing, drawing, winding. Winding is the final process in spinning mill where the yarn of small quantity is wound into a big package known as cones. The important aspect in all departments is to remove basic defects to improve yarn quality. In blow room there is improper mixing, in spindles there is speed variation issue, in moisture room there is insufficient supply, and in mixing there is no defined method. Root cause analysis is lean manufacturing tool by using this we remove all these errors. By doing this the proper mixing improves, moisture standard maintained and by proper opening yarn quality can be improved. The drawback of basic errors that we find can reduce the fiber length and it reduces the operating efficiency of the whole process. This leads to reduction in quality of yarn. The aim of the proposed work is to implement the root cause analysis and thus the quality of yarn improved.
