The main aim of the current thesis is to examine the product and the main reason of neck & base crack issue in the final product. This can be done by analyzing the reaction of different sections & plant of the factory. While focusing on the period between 2015 and 2016 the thesis traces the evolution of the neck & base crack issue dating back to 2010. The thesis also shows how the conditions will affect the quality of raw material & final product. In parallel, the thesis explores the quality defects on preforms & bottles after getting manufactured. This was strongly indicated from the 2010 that this problem will increased and definitely will target the market value and sales. To highlights the main reason of problem, humidity was concluded as the main reason for this issue. The central argument of the thesis, therefore, is effect of humidity on preforms & bottles and the after products. The thesis contends that by controlling the humidity we can control this issue of neck & base crack because it mostly occurs during the humid season from June to September. Getting data from all warehouses & by noticing all the parameters suggested by original equipment manufacturer the data was collected to investigate the reason behind this serious issue. Also, help from the technical team of the original equipment manufacturer was taken. The site visits were arranged so that they can have a brief and comprehension visit of the plants and to find out the main reasons behind the fault. After all the investigation and more than 1 year of hard work, they were all able to come to a conclusion that this problem was occurred, more or less, due to the factor of humidity. Finally, this thesis observes that the main problems lies in controlling the environment on all the plants like injection molding plant where preforms are manufactured & blow mold where bottles and final products are being manufactured and also the warehouses where the final product is kept. Moreover, this thesis also observe the wrong parameters used in manufacturing. After all the investigation, completion of action plans and remedies taken the company was able to reduce the defect to 95% expectedly. Since the human race is to make new products to attract customers, there has been competitions as not in means of technology but in the ways of production. As the word Group Technology (GT) sounds that it should be former, but it allows organization to compete with each other minimizing work-in-progress, lead times while producing a wide range of products. Cellular manufacturing has been a widely research conducted subject throughout the world. Different part-machine algorithms, coding system techniques, pattern recognition methods are introduced. The traditional body has been grouped under categories like part family identification, GT in engineering design etc. Different methods are available for it. In Pakistan cellular manufacturing are rather new and had application in very few industries. The main aim of this thesis is to apply these cellular manufacturing algorithms and techniques in an industry within Pakistan and then evaluate the results generated from it. By applying these techniques it is noted that there is a massive change in material handling, throughput time, setup time etc. The results from manual methods and cellular algorithms are generated and then they are compared and analyzed.Item Status of health and safety measures in heavey industrial equipment manufacturing plant Lahore(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Munim ShaukatIndustrial Sector is of great importance for economic development of every country. PakistanIndustrial Sector is the second largest individual sector of the economy accounting for 25 % of the GDP [1].Whatever sort of business we do, there is always the possibility of an accident or damage to someone's health. We need to have a system (e.g. have a policy, designate people and have clear procedures) in place to manage health and safety. We need to be able to show how we plan, organize, control, monitor and review preventative measures. A work man generally spends most of his time at work place; therefore work place should be safe and healthy. Poor and unsafe working conditions at the workplace have a hazardous affect on worker's health, life and safety. Young workers are frequently injured at work. Education and awareness strategies to prevent injuries among young workers are common but they are often ineffective. In this research we will visit in Al Qadri group of industries and will observe health and safety practice there. A questionnaire survey will be performed to collect data regarding safety issues. Some suggestions will be given after survey result.Item Product development for remote gas level monitoring of gas cylinders and products’ business potential(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Anas Sharif, Muhammad; Safdar Ali Shah, Syed; Soomro, JunaidThis is an entrepreneurial project for providing of LPG Gas filling in food stalls, restaurants, and houses which are located in the remote areas of Lahore and also in societies where there is no gas connection. Keeping in view the shortage of gas in Lahore we have come up with this LPG providing business model. The distinctive feature of this business model is a special device that will be fixed on the top of cylinder and will detect the amount of LPG gas remaining in the cylinder, before the LPG reaches to the ending line, we will receive the message through GSM. Ours representative will drive the vehicle to that particular place and re-fill the cylinder. The bill for LPG filling will be charged from customers on monthly basis. There will be onetime setup cost of device and cylinder.Item Fabrication of continuous mode biomass gasifier reactor for thermal application(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Aleeza Fatima; Muhammad Azeem Ashraf; Omer MunirAs we were doing our final year project, our main objective is to convert agricultural-waste into a useful resource. We selected a preliminary design of continuous mode. We designed that model of gasifier on Solid Works designing software. Then we fabricate a Continuous mode Biomass Gasifier Reactor with improved thermal performance and low cost, by using local material and technology. It provideclean Fuel for thermal applications and economical energy solution for industrial and domestic purposes. The gas produced in gasifier could be used to generate electricity and also for continuous supply of gas for commercial purposes. Due to load shedding of natural gas industries have to suffer a big loss. We have used rice husk as biomass and made a special reactor fabricated from local machines and local materials in order to decrease the cost of gasifier. We have achieved high thermal efficiency from our reactor using gasification process which requires limited amount of air that has been provided by a DC fan. During experimentation phase we were facing difficulty in the process of gasification so we figure out the cause which is directly associated with the supply of air so we fabricate a tunnel for supply of sufficient air. By-product is a bio-char which can be used as a fertilizer because of enrichment of essential minerals like potassium and nitrogen and also be used for water filtration process.Item Energy audit and economic analysis of mechanical production unit(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Ahsan, Saqib; Tahir, Awais; Shah, JawadIn this project, we have conducted an Energy Audit& Economic Analysis of Mechanical Production Unit that consents us to study the energy being utilized in Hussain Tech Pvt. Normally Animals have Visual Ear Tags which shows Identification Number and it helps to track that Animal by viewing Identification number by Human eye, but when there is Large groups of Animals e.g. 5,000 Animals, it’s very difficult to check each Animal by visual Tags, record their Health Issues, Treatments, Calving, Reproduction, Milk, Feeding, Animals Sales, specially 4 Times Milking per day which mean 5,000 X 4 = 20,000 Animals Record per day only to record Milking. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) System is one which can solve this problem, RFID tags applies to each Animal’s ear, RFID Tag has unique Identification, by which we can track Animals Lifecycle. The reason of using RFID in Animals is that Animals are moving objects we can’t bound animals to be scan like Barcodes, to overcome this problem RFID is the best solution by using RFID as animal is free to move and when it comes at narrow path where RFID scanner is installed, Scanner interact with tag, electronically activates RFID Tag, hence RFID Tag send back its information carrying Identification number to scanner, scanner then send Identification to Database to extract, update Animals Record. This project is about RFID Implementation and Applications in a Live Stock Dairy Farm, which will present importance of RFID, need of RFID, its Different Applications, Environmental issues which effects read orientation, resolutions of issues, its draw backs. This project will mainly focus on RFID Implementation, different operations issues and applications in Dairy Farming.Item Strategic location planning in Pakistan for Steel Re-Rolling/Forming Mills(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Tauseeq Haider, Syed; Rasheed, HumayunFacility location of any manufacturing unit plays a vital role in future profitability and effectiveness of company. Then accomplish some improvements in the level of execution. (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) DMAIC technique of six sigma is utilized as a framework of this project through which bottom-line of this educational institute improves by improving the satisfaction level of students and the potential clients. From the define stage to improve stage, we gather the information from various sources by legitimate planning. Assess the information deeply, direct studies and investigate the outcomes to gauge the current fulfillment level of their clients statistically and graphically. Identify the reasons of the loop holes in the system by brainstorming session and by establish cause and effect diagram. Take some remedial actions on it and make standards, define ROR and introduce some unique features regarding quality management which are not present in their targeted market area. The improvements made significant changes in the satisfaction level of the students and parents of this educational institute names as IQRA Group of Institutes. The comparison has shown by drawing the bar charts of the collective data from the institute. Once positive changes develop in the system then it should be control and eliminate or minimize the actions or activities from the system which may leads toward dissatisfaction in future. Furthermore, we suggest some more possible improvements that would be done to attain more good results because DMAIC strategy is never ended process.Item Graphene-Supercapacitor(University of Management and Technology, 2017) Haseeb Niazi; Azhar Shabbir; Sharib JameelThe evolution of human interactions and work activities is quite revolutionized in about last 2 decades. The world has turned digital in almost every aspect of life. With it, came many challenges and errands to accomplish. The most essential component of this digital world, is quite modestly behind the walls of concealment. Batteries that enable us to turn as many devices as we want; into portable ones and make us feel quite handy about so many tasks a day. That is also the area in which the major lagging of revolution is found, as the best battery (Lithium Ion) of the age is subjected to catch fire or even catch fire under high temperature conditions and possess limited performance properties. Here comes the most feasible startup idea of innovating energy storage. The best bet turned out to be recently commercialized material, graphene. The super-capacitor made of graphene shows some overwhelming performance characteristics.Item Implementation of lean six sigma at Ayesha knitwear to reduce the rejection rate of garments(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2015) Sibghatullah; Mian Farhan Ali; M. Omer Ali Khan; Muhammad AqibAs we see it is worldwide rivalry among the organization so it's inflexible for one to earn profits without plummeting the denial rate of manufacturing goods. Denial rate of any good plays a vital part for customer fulfillment and financial circumstances of any company. It makes sure the minimization of work loss and the approval of buyer soul. Apparel industries in Pakistancurrently not yet use this concept. They pay extra concentration to production but overlook the giant part of waste because of waiting, inventory, underutilization of people, correction / rework, over production, motion (unnecessary physical movement), material movement transportation and extra processing. Diagnose and study the every process in the sewing and finishing department on daily bases. It is necessary to diagnose the everyday problems like time efficiency, inline operation wise alteration fault percentage, end line repair percentage rejection percentage, off standard time due to machine delay/ breakdown, bundle delay induction, other quality issues and also rework cost/operation. Similarly, prevention is very essential before waiting for any breakdown. We assume these words “improvement process” according to the demand of environment can help firm's for achieving the high productivity growth. The Lean Six Sigma Manufacturing concept in the Apparel Industry can reduce the functioning cost in developed by removing the process waste; improve the production in the implementation process and turning into a learning group. In this Company: MISHAL APPAREL project we shall apply Lean Six Sigma using DMAIC approach in the production process using different appropriate tools and techniques. Different types of gears are manufactured in the company. Some types are cam shaft gear, Idler gear, fuel pump gear and fly wheel ring gear. The customers used these gears in tractor and fly wheel ring gear is used in car. In our case study idler gear was chosen for the implementation of DMAIC methodology. This problem will be tackled by implementation the Six Sigma DMAIC methodology. Failure to achieve the required outer diameter according to tolerance is the problem. Idler gear is the most critical component in the tractor. It is used with the combination of cam shaft gear and fuel pump gear. The purpose of these gears is to transmit the motion to the wheel. Failure to achieve in between outer diameter according to tolerance is the problem. The required outer diameter of Idler gear is 233.40 mm with a tolerance of ± 0.05 mm. So the outer diameter of the idler gear must to be between 233.35 mm and 233.45 mm. In past Six Sigma was implemented belt based training structure, so it was most expensive approach. Today we can implement DMAIC methodology of Six Sigma with less cost. In this background, an attempt was made to find out the root causes of defects in idler gear by employing Six Sigma DMAIC Methodology. The Sigma level of existing process is just 1.22. We was determined to the root causes of the defects in gear and made some suggestions for the company. These root causes are CNC lathe machine, cutting tool geometry and choice of the best combination of speed and feed rate. For that purpose we have designed an experiment and based on results we can choose the optimal combination. By implementing these suggestions company will be able to overcome the defects in idler gear and others as well. After reduction of these defects the sigma level will be increase by improving the process capability. DMAIC methodology is an effective tool for breakthrough improvement. This will enables the company to spend less cost to obtain Six Sigma level quality. Hence, DMAIC is the promising methodology to obtain maximum productivity and efficiency with less cost.Item Process parameter optimization of wire EDM on aluminum and D2 tool steel by using Taguchi method(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2015) Mohammad Sameem Arshad; Zeeshan AyyubIn EDM wire one of the key factor is surface unevenness.
