Item An exploratory study of SHRM practices in developing countries: a case of public sector organization gsp (with reference to john mcauley’s perspectives)(Institute of Interdisciplinary Business Research, 2011) Rana Zamin Abbas; Naveeda Kitchlew; Zulfqar Ahmad; Abdul RafayIn writing this case on GSP (Geological Survey of Pakistan), we conducted ten in depth interviews at GSP using seven perspectives framework of John McAuley, so that the progression of thoughts and flow of ideas should be in a logical, coherent and consistent fashion for the vivid and clear picture of GSP Case. This paper explores the issues of SHRM practices in the context of Public sector organization GSP using MCAULEY S PERSPECTIVES APPROACH namely 1- A Modernist Perspective 2- A Neo-Modernist Perspective 3, A New-Wave Perspective 4-Postmodern Perspective 5- A Reflective Perspective 6- A Critical Theory And Psychoanalytical Perspective 7- A Managerial Perspective. Reports the strategic issues confronting GSP as well as evidence generated from the case reveal that SHRM practices are totally neglected at GSP. After discussing dark side, recommends, suggestions for future.Item Exploring the issues and new insights of global branding and strategic corporate social responsibility (csr): a case of Pakistani organizations(Academic Journals, 2012) Rana Zamin Abbas; Hasan Sohaib Murad; Mazhar Abbas Khan; Abdul Ghaffar Ghaffari; Abdul RafayThe purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the concept of global branding, what it stands for being socially responsible, and what its link with leverage is. It also highlights the range of social responsibility issues with reference to Pakistani brands and explores the relevant issues and deep insights from strategic corporate social responsibility (CSR) literature and global branding literature in the context of Pakistani organizations. It also suggests future implications for theorists, practitioners and academicians with reference to effective strategic CSR and global branding. This paper embarks on the intellectual journey with the concept of CSR and global branding in local context of Pakistan, while reviewing the relevant literature and addressing the issue of complexity in Pakistani context. This study gives insights about the issue of complexity at the time of strategically integrating CSR into global band and sorts out three strands of complexity namely, 1) issue complexity, 2) organizational complexity, and 3) communication complexity in the context of Pakistan. The limitation of this paper is due to the limited academic literature, giving insights about how global organizations in corporate CSR initiatives for the development of brands, and insights dealing with the issues needed to be taken into account at the time of integrating into branding strategies. This paper gives fresh enquiry to the issue complexity, organizational complexity and communication complexity with reference to global brands and CSR activities in the context of Pakistan which has been applied so far.Item Mirror up to leadership and strategic management: an exploratory account(2011) Rana Zamin Abbas; Muhammad Ashraf; Hassan Mobeen Alam; Abdul RafayThis paper focuses upon exploring the contribution of constructionism and existential perspective for the strength and value of subjective perspective of leadership as well as strategy. It also advocates the value of subjective perspective when we give due status to this approach. It invites the reconsideration of objectivist approach to leadership on logical grounds. Methodology This paper begins by considering the valuable input of an existentialist perspective and then explores the worth and value of social constructionist approach in leadership studies and also highlights the importance of strategy making from humanistic/ existential approach. Findings This paper takes a new and fresh approach about reconsidering the objectivist approach to leadership and discusses the worth of subjective approach for the value of leadership as well as humanistic/ existential approach to strategy. Originality / Value The real worth of this paper shines out when we strategically combine the two perspectives into one i.e. social constructionist and existential perspectives. These two perspectives act like two head lights of the vehicle of leadership from which rays of light come out for illuminating the concept of leadership. Moreover, it also presents humanistic/ existential approach to strategy. From this paper long term future implications will be beneficial both for practice and it will also provide an opportunity of understandings how people view leadership. To discuss Pakistani brands and develop prepositions with referrence to the working styles of Pakistani brands. It also discusses the theoretical and managerial implications for business in Pakistan.
