Item Investigate the impact of parental involvement and support on the academic performance of students with hearing impairment(UMT, Lahore, 2024) EMAN FAIZ; HAFSA SAEEDParental involvement plays a crucial role in the academic progress of students with hearing impairment (SWHI). This quantitative study utilized a survey method to explore the frequency and nature of parental engagement, the levels of support provided, and the barriers faced by parents. The research was conducted in Lahore, with seventy parents of SWHI selected through convenient sampling. A self developed questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale was used to gather data. Findings revealed that while some parents consistently assist their children with homework and maintain structured study routines, others provide only minimal support. The use of visual aids at home is fairly common, but many parents struggle to ensure the availability of assistive devices. Although most parents recognize the importance of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), their active participation in IEP development remains limited. A significant number of parents attend parent teacher meetings, yet many still find it challenging to engage in school events and workshops. To improve parental involvement, the study recommends organizing workshops on effective homework assistance and structured study techniques, along with guidance on creating a supportive learning environment at home. Schools should enhance awareness about visual aids and assistive devices, ensuring their accessibility. Additionally, consistent implementation of IEPs, flexible scheduling for parent teacher meetings, and incentives for active participation in school events can strengthen parental engagement, ultimately benefiting SWHI's academic success.Item An exploratory study on the impact of autism spectrum disorder on family life(UMT, Lahore, 2024) Iman AliThe aim of the study was to assess the impact of autism spectrum disorder on family life. It was an exploratory study. A sample of 10 parents of children with autism were selected as a sample of the study by using purposive sampling technique. A self-developed semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data from parents. The collected qualitative data were analyzed by applying thematic analysis to find the themes of the answers of parent’s interviews. The main findings of the study were included that family members experienced elevated stress levels as a result of the day-to-day difficulties of taking care of an individual having ASD, which may include behavioral problems and communication difficulties. Financial strain was the main issue they were dealing with. The family's general well-being was also influenced by the financial difficulties. The siblings of children with autism also affected in various ways. The requirements for their sibling having ASD impacted their social and emotional growth, and they may take on caregiving responsibilities. Siblings have, however, also experienced beneficial experiences, such as more empathy and understanding. Despite the difficulties, a lot of families managed to cope well. Families were more resilient when they participate in networks of support, interventions, and educational initiatives. This is, in my opinion, the main problem for parents since they require support services. The government offers very little assistance. Parents said that since there is no assistance from the government, they must individually assist their children and provide them with therapy. The training of family members should arrange for future. Financial and technical support should provide to the families of autistic children’s government give them proper resources.Item Investigating benefits of play for children with intellectual disability(UMT, Lahore, 2024) Jawad Anees; Hifza ArifChildren with intellectual disabilities learn through different ways and teaching techniques. Play activities impact their learning and enhance their school and home skills. The study was designed to investigate the benefits of play for the cognitive, social, and emotional development of children with intellectual disabilities in the special schools/centers of Lahore district. The study was quantitative in nature. The study sample was 60 teachers (n=60) of children with intellectual disabilities in Lahore district public and private special schools. A convenient sampling technique was used to select the sample for data collection. A closed ended self-developed questionnaire on 3-point likert type scale validated by experts of the field was used for data collection. Frequency analysis was used to analyze the acquired data. Findings reported that play activities benefit cognitive development more than social and emotional development in children with intellectual disabilities. Policymakers have been recommended to allocate resources and funds to train teachers in effective play-based methodologies. The teachers should implement structured play sessions that focus on the social and emotional development of children with intellectual disabilities.Item Analyzing communication challenges in teaching students with hearing impairments(UMT, Lahore, 2024) MUHAMMAD ZAIN UL ABIDEEN; YASIR ASHFAQThis study looks at the challenges Pakistani instructors in Lahore experience in teaching students who have hearing loss. It focuses on the obstacles to communication, the teaching strategies, and the effectiveness of the educational endeavors. The population of this study includes instructors from a variety of educational settings. The sample consists of sixty teachers who were selected using simple random selection to ensure an unbiased and comprehensive evaluation of the challenges encountered. Data were gathered using a survey, and the findings were examined using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). The primary statistical technique employed is the contrast of means assessment, which evaluates the broader pattern, frequency, power, and core reaction characteristics among several aspects of the survey. This approach helps identify significant patterns and variations in teachers' observations regarding instructional resources, visual tools, and sign language proficiency. The survey suggests that teachers deal with a range of challenges. For instance, issues with teaching resources adequacy and visual accessibility are frequent. Several respondents stated that it was challenging to guarantee that all students with hearing impairments could comprehend the resources used in the classroom. The data highlights the necessity for additional encouragement and instruction by revealing an assortment of experience capacities regarding the use of sign language and understanding students' sign language.
