Item Adolescent girls are hurt more by the body mass than thin-ideal media images of females(Journal of Behavioural Sciences, 2014) Marium Javaid; Iftikhar AhmadThis study aimed to identify factors that affect body self-image satisfaction and negative mood among adolescent girls. Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, Self Esteem Scale, Body Image Satisfaction Scale and Figure Rating Scale was administered to 97 female undergraduate students to have a base-line data for the study. Overall, self esteem and body mass predicted body satisfaction significantly. Of these 47 participants volunteered to appear in the second phase of the study as well, after a week, and were shown thin-ideal images of women on power point as an intervention and were asked to complete Positive and Negative Affect Schedule and Body Image States Scale for the second time in view of their recent and fresh feelings and views. It was found that the participants of different body weight showed no change in their body image satisfaction than before except in the case of overweight participants. They were significantly affected on negative mood after viewing the thin ideal images. Comparing three groups with different body mass index, one-way ANOVA revealed significant difference on negative mood as well as body image satisfaction. This revealed body mass (index) is a potent and table factor that could strongly affect body satisfaction. Overall, participants’ actual body mass was a negative predictor of body image satisfaction and self esteem appeared as a moderator of mood affectivity. These results were corroborated with another finding of this study: Participants whose perception of their body shape and that of their ideally desired body shape was markedly discrepant had gone to significantly low level of body image satisfaction as well as self esteem than those with low discrepancy. The thin-ideal images seemed to affect influence body satisfaction and mood of the oversized women more than the average ones.Item AKP and the idea of the Turkish Model (2002-14): A longitudinal analysis.(IPRI Journal, 2016) Sajjad, FatimaThis article examines the evolution of the idea of the Turkish model as constructed by academics from the West, the Muslim world and Turkey during the three consecutive terms of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) rule in Turkey. It focuses on the changing political landscape of Turkey, the Middle East and the world at large during post 9/11 years and the emerging issues and debates around the idea of this model. Based on a careful selection and examination of 145 academic articles on the model published during the extended rule of AKP in Turkey (2002-14), the study illustrates that the term „Turkish model‟ has held disparate meanings and generated diverse debates overtime. The growing political unrest, suppression and violence in and around Turkey during the third phase of AKP rule (2012-14) has significantly undermined the idea which lately held great appeal in the West as well as the Muslim world.Item Analyzing the Advertising Discourse-A Journey from Sight to Mind(International Journal of Applied Linguistics & English Literature, 2013) Mahrukh BaigThis research paper sets out to project an in-depth study of the advertising discourse by applying methodological approaches of Discourse Analysis and Critical Discourse Analysis to the chosen “advertisements”. It aims at examining the ‘power relations and struggles’ among product-producers and product-consumers, to gauge the level of psychological dominance exercised through the advertising discourse. The study, fundamentally, presents a counteranalysis of ‘advertising strategies’, as to how far they influence the consumers’ attitudes and to what extent the consumers direct their ‘discourse’. In other words, this research attempts to answer the question: ‘who turns out to be more powerful by controlling the other’s mind, in advertiser-consumer relationship?’, whether it is the consumer who shapes the discourse of advertisements through their demands, or the advertiser who affects the consumers’ beliefs through their ‘discourse’! Thus, the current paper presents a comprehensive review of the relevant literature leading towards a theoretical framework of preferred DA and CDA approaches to be further applied on the discourse of advertisements. And towards the end, it states the final remarks concluding the entire discussion and reflecting upon the effectiveness of Critical Discourse Analysis in its application on the advertising phenomena.Item Anger Management group with aggressive Children(LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing, 2012) Rabia IftikharNot AvailableItem Attitude towards outgroup, Religious Intolerance and Psychological Adjustment among Majority (Muslims) and Minority (Christians) groups in Pakistan(University of Management and Technolog, 2017) Butt, AyeshaThe present study aimed to investigate the Attitude towards outgroup, Religious Intolerance and psychological adjustment in majority (Muslims) and minority (Christians) groups. Item-analysis revealed that the respoase pattern of the students was differentiated across the five response choices for 44 of the 60 items. The mean scores of the respondents were close to a theoretical average of 35 for each scale. Girls scored significantly higher than boys on Neuroticism and Conscientiousness scales. The alpha index for the Neuroticism and Conscientiousness scales was in the .70s for Extraversion scale in the .50s and for Openness and Agreeableness scales in the 40s. The scales evidenced validity across multiple criterions. The translation of the 16 items that yielded undifferentiated responses were revisited by a committee of three faculty members in psychology. The inventory was thereafter administered to a community sample of 320 (male 139, female, 181) who gained 2-3 points in mean scores over the student sample on Neuroticism and Conscientiousness scales. The normative data of the community sample are recommended to be used for every day applications of the inventory in Pakistan.Item A Case Study of Language Development in 0.1-0.9 Year Old Child(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2015) Naila, ShahadatThe purpose of this study was to observe language development in a child from the birth up to the age of 9 months. The present research focused on the acquisition of human speech sounds by a child, in comparison with non-human sounds. Other than that, the study also tried to explore the effects of audio-visual elements on language development. A newbornbaby boywasthe subject of the current study. The total observation period of 9 monthswas broken down into three stages. Each stagecomprised ofthree months of child’s age. The data was collectedin the form of audio and video recordings, documents and interviews with family members of the subject. After observing the subject for 9 months, conclusions were drawn and compared with past studies in the same area. A child goes through many human and non-human sounds during his language acquisition period but as devised by Chomsky (2004) that language is innate (Chomsky, 2004), child accepts only human speech signals to acquire language. The research concluded that both sound and image help a child to acquire a language. Individually, they cannot be beneficial in developing language in a child. Language development is a systematic process, whichis achieved by a child in the early period of his or her life, no matter child comes across how many human and non-human sounds. It becomes easier for a child when he or shefinds pictorial representation of what he or she listen.Item A Case Study of the Department of Technology Education to Promote Entrepreneurial Pedagogical Skills of the Educators of Technical and Vocational Education (TVE)(Journal of Poverty, Investment and Development, 2015) Muhammad Zaheer Asghar; Muhammad Zafar IqbalThe research aims to study the entrepreneurial pedagogical skills of the pre-service educators of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). This specific agreement built on and extended the growing economic relationships between the two sides. However it also caused concern for United States influence in the region. The economic relations of both sides have been talked about from various angles at many occasions and conferences worldwide but how China and ASEAN economic terms are influencing United States influence in the region in the present times have rarely been discussed. This research focuses on the growing China- ASEAN economic relationship over the past decade and a half, especially under CAFTA umbrella, observes some of the major areas of this relationship, and considers the implications for U.S. interests in the region. The vastly growing economic relations of China ASEAN did create concerns for United States initially. The observant war on terror has got United States more involved with neighbouring regions of ASEAN and China i-e Afghanistan and Iraq. But since United States is refocusing on this region with its new strategies and engagement, it is proved that it has not lost its influence in the region which it was losing especially right after the 9/11 incident. At the same time, it is proved as well that China is constantly gaining importance in the region especially after the implementation of CAFTA.Item The civilizational rift and the idea of the turkish model: a case study (2002-2014).(Journal of Political Studies, 2016) Fatima SajjadThe idea of the Turkish model and the idea of clash of civilizations appeared in the International Relations academic discourse around the same time. Initially during the post- cold war days and later during the post 9/11 years the two ideas prevailed side by side. At a time when the global war on terror was seen as an evidence of an inevitable clash between Islam and the West, the idea of the Turkish model showed the possibility of reconciliation between the two. The current study examines the case of the idea of the Turkish model through the theoretical lens provided by the clash of civilizations narrative. It undertakes a cross sectional, comparative discourse analysis of the idea of the Turkish model as constructed by academics from the West, the Muslim world and Turkey. The analysis finds that contrary to the clash of civilizations narrative, the academic discourse from the West, the Muslim world and Turkey tends to present similar ideas on and around the Turkish model through various phases of the extended AKP rule in Turkey. It is compatibility rather than a clash of ideas which emerges as a dominant trend in the academic discourse across civilizations.Item Cohesion coherence interdependence: Analysing cohesive devices to study coherence in the text(2012-10) Mahrukh BaigThis paper places its focus on an in-depth analysis of text-forming (cohesive) devices in a literature-based discourse. CLT is the first comprehensive method of language learning and it has achieved enormous importance as it addresses all important issues regarding language learning. It has also been criticized by many researchers for paying insufficient attention to the context in which teaching and learning take place. It is considered unsuccessful in a sense that it conflicts with social, cultural and physical conditions of the recipient countries. Despite all the drawbacks in CLT, its importance can not be denied. With expansion of globalization and increased demand of English, adopting communicative language teaching is inevitable. Its prominence is well observed not only in East Asia but also in South Asia. The need of the hour is to particularize its theoretical notions and the most important aspect of teaching is peculiarity. This peculiarity can be achieved by introducing local culture in the framework of CLT. As it is the product of sociolinguists who believe in the relation of language with culture and society, so importance of culture cannot be left out of language teaching.Item Comorbidity of Anxiety Disorder and Major Depression among Girls with Learning Disabilities(Pakistan Journal of Medical Research., 2015-12-23) Ashraf, FarzanaAdolescence is a stressful period of transition where new behaviors and habits have to be adapted.
