Abstract
The current study investigated the level of parental acceptance rejection and social competence of step children (age 9 to 13). Parental Acceptance Rejection Questionnaire is used in which children replied to two forms of the PARQ (Rohner, 1990), one approximation children’s perceptions of their father’s acceptance-rejection (Child PARQ, father version) and one approximating mother’s acceptance-rejection (Child PARQ, mother version), Personality Assessment Questionnaire(PAQ) is keyed so that the superior the score, the advanced the level of self-reported psychological maladjustment, Social Competence Scale for Children were administered in the group of 77 girls. Results revealed that there was a link between social competence and psychological adjustment for the girls having step mother than for the group having stepfather. There was significant difference between the two groups on social competence as the girls having stepmother were found to be socially more competent than the girl having stepfather.
