Abstract
This thesis analyzes the planning and architectural design of a wedding destination site in Northern Pakistan suited for middle-class to upper-class families who want a beautiful, peaceful and memorable wedding. The beautiful northern region of Pakistan that is rich in natural beauty, temperate climate, and mountainous views provides a new opportunity for destination weddings that are experiencing increasing popularity globally. Couples tend to build their own ephemeral infrastructures because these areas lack purpose-built venues to create seamless logistical traffic flow and overall less uniformalized user experience. This project aims to address this gap by providing a long-term architectural solution with intended functional capabilities and aesthetics. The design leverage of modern minimalism is the main logo to the proposed project, utilizing large open spaces, crisp lines, muted or monochromatic color schemes, and a solid integration of the surrounding environment. With not only create visual calmness but also elegance and timelessness that complements the prospects of the target audience's modern wedding aspirations, this minimalist design, combined with the element of simplicity also create an experience uniquely distinguished while remaining comfortable and luxurious.
The design is divided into functional sections, each serving a distinct but connected function. The administrative block is the central part of any wedding; the area that handles bookings, meetings and logistics in an orderly and efficient way. The Indoor Banquet Hall works as the perfect formal ceremony and reception space since it is an enclosed area that can be easily changed to allow for an eclectic mixture of styles and weather conditions. The Outdoor Wedding Space offers couples that would like to hold the wedding vows in a rustic, beautiful outdoor area, allowing stunning views of the mountains. The venue's destination element is further enhanced by adding a café to the design of the venue and allowing visitors to have a relaxed space to sit, eat and absorb the venue atmosphere. The Residential Hotel Block could accommodate up to 150 guests with specialty suites for the couple and families. The overall aesthetic of the project remains simplified while providing warmth and friendliness from the comfort and design of the rooms.
The key principles of the project are sustainability, and environmental responsiveness. While energy efficiency elements work to minimize the environmental impact of the work, local material choices such as wood and stone, help to enable the building's architecture to relate to the built and natural environment. This thesis offers the unique opportunity for a destination wedding experience right in the heart of Northern Pakistan through an architectural package that is both aspirational and attainable. This project will help couples celebrate their milestones and take action for their future direction, while also working to build tourism and employment locally, and help further develop a sustainable hospitality and event economy in the area.
