Abstract
The present study investigated the relationship between police psychosocial
stressors, work family conflict, mindfulness and quality of life and also determined the
moderating role of mindfulness and mediating role of work family conflict between police
psychosocial stressors and quality of life. Correlational research design was used. The
sample consisted of 160 police personnel with age range 20-60 years (M = 38.58, SD =
7.92) were taken from police stations of Lahore, Sheikhupura and Toba Tek Singh.
Questionnaire on the police psychosocial stressor scale (Bashir & Subhan, 2017), Work
Family Conflict Scale (Haslam et al., 2015), Mindful Attention Awareness scale (Brown
& Ryan, 2003) and Professional quality of life (Hundall, 2009) were used to assess the
sample. Results of Pearson product moment showed that there was a significant
relationship in police psychosocial stressors, work family conflict, mindfulness and quality
of life. The results of multiple hierarchical regression indicated that work to family conflict
negatively predicted the compassion satisfaction and positively predicted the burnout.
However, police psychosocial stressors positively predicted Secondary traumatic stress.
Further mindfulness negatively predicted burnout. The results of mediation through
process Macro indicated that family to work conflict showed indirect effect between police
psychosocial stressors and compassion satisfaction well as burnout. However, work to
family conflict did not mediate the relationship. The results of the moderation through
multiple regression analysis indicated non-significant interaction effect between police
psychosocial stressors and subscales of quality of life. The present study is important in
police department highlighting the role of police psychosocial stressors, work family
conflict in predicting the compassion satisfaction, burnout and secondary traumatic stress
viii
in police personnel so the results can be helpful to reduce stressors to improve work
qualities.
