Excogitating Islamic Epistemology From the Classical and Contemporary Literature
(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Sajid Shahbaz Khan
Epistemology is a vast field of Philosophy. This thesis is confined to an important question in epistemology; the justification of knowledge. Among Muslims, reason, senses, authentic history, Fiṭrah and revelation were mostly in use as justifiers. This study derives a ‗theory of justification of knowledge by Fiṭrah‘ as a prime judge and universal justifier for our all knowledge, and the Fiṭrah-theory is supported with the modern scientific findings regarding mental cognitive activities in children. This thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter-1 deals with the research`s nature and design. Chapter-2 reviewed the classical and contemporary literature; theories of Muslim clergy and Muslim philosophers are studied and explained, from their original and secondary sources. This chapter is composed of two sections. 1st outlines the past and 2nd elaborates the theories of twenty-eight most influential figures of Islamic world. The third chapter presents the means of justifications of knowledge. Eight mostly, used justifiers are elaborated. This elaboration explains the idea of knowledge in Muslim mindset.

ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE ON THE IDEOLOGY OF NEW ATHEISM
    (UMT, Lahore, 2021) Ataur Rehman
Traditionally in atheism, the idea of God’s existence has been rejected via philosophical arguments only, but “new atheism” has reinforced this stance by giving scientific, moral, and historical arguments, and this addition of arguments has played a significant role in spreading atheism, including Muslims countries, across the globe. There is a long history of refutation of atheism by different religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Hinduism. Similarly, Muslim scholars also have rejected the beliefs of atheism but the academic community is not much familiar with this rejection. The objective of the study is to understand the emergence of ‘new atheism’ and to examine how new atheists have conceptualized the non-existence of God and the scientific moralities, and how Muslim scholars have responded (internal objective). By doing so, this study will put forward a theory and a method to study new atheism through the Islamic perspective (external objective). The study compares new atheist thinkers with Muslim scholars and analyzes the differences. The study also traces the history of atheism in the Western world with a special focus on the Muslim world.

DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF RESPONSES TO POLITICAL MODERNITY IN TWENTIETH CENTURY MUSLIM SOUTH ASIA
    (UMT, Lahore, 2021) Shahid Rasheed
This study seeks to explore the response by Muslims of South Asia to notions of political modernity in the twentieth century. I have divided the twentieth century into four separate time-frames defined by specific historical and intellectual contexts. Within each time frame, I identify religious leaders who aspired to transform the collective life of Muslims in South Asia. These people can be traditional ulama, intellectuals, Muslim modernist reformers and Islamist ideologues. Relating notions of Islamic modernism with their historical context and the agency of scholars and ulama, I attempt to develop an intellectual map of the twentieth century political Islam.

A Discourse Analysis of Revival Theories of Islamic Civilization in Pak-Turk Perspectives
(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Syed Mustaqeem Moin
This doctoral thesis examines the revival theories of Islamic civilization in the context of Pakistan and Turkiye, two Muslim-majority countries with distinct approaches to Islam. The research explores the methods, approaches, and challenges associated with the penetration of Islamic revival theories in the face of Western civilization. By synergizing the discourses of both countries, the study employs critical discourse analysis to analyse the revival theories of Islamic civilization. Drawing on a rich historical foundation rooted in the Rashidun era, the theories of Islamic revival have gained significant attention among scholars and researchers due to perceived threats to Islamic civilization and the current geopolitical situation, particularly in relation to political Islam. Prominent scholars such as Iqbal and Maududi in Pakistan, along with the Naqshbandi order, Saeed Nursi, and Erbakan in Turkiye, have made substantial contributions to the revival movement.

An Investigative Review into the Problems of Interest in Islamic Finance from Islamic Jurisprudential Perspectives
(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Imdad ullah Mehmood
In Islamic law, Islamic financing is, any Halal business dealing in Halal modes of trades comprising total or minimum share of its total investment in form of assets, such as stock market, stock exchange or Voting Shares in Islamic banks. The determination of the minimum share is at the discretion of the management of a business. There are many forms of Islamic financing in the world today, most of which are found in Islamic banks. Many Islamic scholars believe that these common forms of Islamic financing are not in accordance with Shari'a principles, so they make scholarly and jurisprudential objections to it. Our discussion here is about Islamic financing.
