Abstract
Traditionally in atheism, the idea of God’s existence has been rejected via philosophical arguments only, but “new atheism” has reinforced this stance by giving scientific, moral, and historical arguments, and this addition of arguments has played a significant role in spreading atheism, including Muslims countries, across the globe. There is a long history of refutation of atheism by different religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Hinduism. Similarly, Muslim scholars also have rejected the beliefs of atheism but the academic community is not much familiar with this rejection. The objective of the study is to understand the emergence of ‘new atheism’ and to examine how new atheists have conceptualized the non-existence of God and the scientific moralities, and how Muslim scholars have responded (internal objective). By doing so, this study will put forward a theory and a method to study new atheism through the Islamic perspective (external objective). The study compares new atheist thinkers with Muslim scholars and analyzes the differences. The study also traces the history of atheism in the Western world with a special focus on the Muslim world.
