The role of teachers as leaders in educational reforms at secondary level
    (UMT, Lahore, 2007) Hassaan Hashami
This study is about the role of teachers as leaders in educational reform (secondary section). Through this study, researcher tried to evaluate the leadership responsibilities of teachers. Based on the review of the related literature, a questionnaire for teachers was prepared. After the try out of the questionnaire, a final questionnaire was developed and administered to one hundred and twenty teachers of fifteen different schools of Shad Bagh area. The study was limited to the 120 teachers of higher secondary section. Four major hypotheses were formulated for this study. All the variables were related to demographic variables of type, sex, marital status, experience and professional qualification. Two out of four variables were not rejected. The data in general, revealed that the teachers were doing their leadership responsibilities on their own, but administration was not properly arranging activities for their leadership development. For accomplishment of the goals most of the principals didn't like interference in the decisions-making process. They were, infact, concerned only with the completing of the job. Teachers were therefore' just implementers of the orders and policies. On the other hand, teachers were given freedom in arranging different classroom activities according to the requirement of the lesson. In general, the administrative environment was not collaborative, interactive and knowledge sheiring but teachers were personally trying to maintain collaboration, interaction and so on. The research noted an interesting phenomenon that majority of staff believed that most of teachers didn't concentrate on their job in collegial environment beeause of the increasing factor of leg-pulling and jealousy among fellow workers. In short, all the institution were traditional one having teachers and principal believing in transmission mode.

Cognitive levels of the content of annual English language papers (of class three) of Aitchison college, junior school
    (UMT, Lahore, 2007) Uzma Khan
This analytical study plunges right into the contents of nine Annual English language papers/tests of Class III (Aitchison College, Junior School) and examines them in the light of the cognitive domain of Bloom's taxonomy. All questions of the selected papers are studied by developing a table of content analysis, on the lines of table of specifications, to find the weightage given to different levels of the cognitive domain and how it affects the teaching of English. It is observed that the highest weightage is given to the application level of the cognitive domain. Another interesting observation is that the last two (highest) levels of thinking i.e. Synthesis and Evaluation are not covered at all in any of the studied tests. This reveals the unbalanced form of the tests and also that the pre stage of test construction is not given much consideration. It is concluded that the teachers need training in the area of language test construction and that the tests should be broad based, encompassing a wide range of skills and thinking abilities
