Crafting Humanitarian Supply Chain Management Framework For a Developing Nation
(University of Management and Technolog, 2017) Rabiyya Shakeel
Natural disasters have started increasing both in terms of frequency and magnitude. Most of the Asian countries, including Pakistan, are very much prone to natural disasters especially to the floods and earthquakes resulting in extremely vulnerable aftermaths. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of existing disaster management approaches in context of a developing country and to propose a systematic Humanitarian Supply Chain Management (HSCM) Framework in order to overcome the challenges faced regarding relief operations management. Case study methodology has been adopted for detailed examination of phenomenon of interest. A single case of HSCM has been selected along with embedded units including NGO, Government Disaster Management Authority (GDMA) and disaster victims. Data has been collected from multiple sources in order to triangulate data including primary and secondary sources. Semi-structured interviews have been conducted to collect primary data from sub-units of case. It has been found that poor mechanism has been prevailing in Pakistanin terms of pre-disaster contingency planning, disaster time emergency response and post-disaster consequence management. Such erratic and unsystematic approach drives reactiveness and ineffectiveness of disaster management. This study proposes a comprehensive HSCM framework to address underlying endogenous and exogenous challenges. The significance of this study is that it will add to the scarce literature available on HSCM from perspective of developing countries. Secondly, this study will also facilitate all involved parties including those that act voluntarily as well as those that are liable for relief operations management, as it lays down basic foundation for all stakeholders of HSCM to understand factors that hamper their abilities to manage natural disasters as well as guide them to treat such events in ex-ante manner in the light of proposed holistic and flexible HSCM framework.

Implementation of CPFR model in the food manufacturing industry
(University of Management and Technology, 2014) Asif, Muhammad
Purpose This study examines the collaborations by downstream and upstream partners of food companies supply chains. This research covers the implementation of CPFR model in food manufacturing. The idea behind this process is to make collaborative actions on all members of the supply chain to come up with a shared vision and objective. Based on the core concept of this process partners along the supply chain share information based on customer trends and needs to create a single forecast that is visualized at all times by its members to act accordingly to sudden changes in demand. In the literature discussed of collaborative supply chains to enhance the efficiency of supply chain management and alignment of supply chain partner. The implementation of CPFR enables the food manufacturer to tie up with its supply chain existing partners and potential partners as an entity toward the same objectives, and brings maximum benefits to each participant. Design/methodology/approach This is a case based research. For the deep understanding of this phenomenon qualitative research was conducted. The second approach was to contact the companies involved in the research and use semi structure questionnaire to identify the relationship and the problems involved in their supply chain structure. Primary data was collected through semi structured interviews with supply chain managers, documentations and also made through direct observations in the focal firm. Interviews are conducted from 9 supply chain managers. Further for data analysis Flow Model is used and validity and reliability of the data improve the quality of this research. Findings The supply chain management researches indicate integration/collaboration in the business process. Yet, despite positive attitudes towards collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment (CPFR) and several pilot implementations undertaken in the beginning of the millennium, significant implementations of collaborative forecasting are still scarce. In this paper shows the high contribution of collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment (CPFR) model in the food manufacturing industry such as accurate forecasting, reduce bullwhip effect by the collaboration of partners, to achieve the better visibility within the supply chain. This research is focused at the implementation of SC strategy yet in the food industry not implemented the CPFR in their process. Finding tells us focal firm working at the VMI strategy and used forecasting technique for their internal process. Focal firm used CCM for communication with internal and external business process. Practical implications This model is based on collaboration among the partners and some modification for the food industry in order to achieve great benefits in the supply chain. We draw upon finding and literature from both successful and less successful implementations to illustrate which factors contribute less successful implementation of CPFR model in the companies. Originality/value This study aims to not only discover the gaps present in the food manufacturing supply chain performance measurement but endeavors to fill up the knowledge gap to suggest which business strategy is facilitating the development of food manufacturing supply chains and enhance efficiency of supply chain partners. Keywords: Collaborative planning, forecasting, Collaborative replenishment, Case study.

Diagnostic study of supply chain management in master garments (Pvt) Ltd
(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2014) Abdul Muneeb; Hammad Azhar; Abdul Hye Abid; Shahid Amin, Muhammad
We have done our project on the supply chain of Master Garments. Garments are the one of the most valuable products of Pakistan. It increases the economic growth of Pakistan. Farmers now days are keen to grow cotton as it is a profit making crop. Cotton is used to make fabric and then by further processes on it, garments are manufactured. Introduce new technology and awareness in farmers can boast up this industry. Garments industry can increase GDP level also if proper importance should be given to it. Pakistan is an agriculture country, but no proper importance and care is given to it. Farmers face many problems e.g. high cost of fertilizer, no cash payment on the spot, bad knowledge about sprays etc. People like commission agent, ginning mill owners and even government body is corrupt. Textile and garments industry of Pakistan canfulfill the needs of local as well as foreign customers if proper attention is given to them. We visited master’s garment and textile industry in Lahore and study their supply chain. As such no supply chain is implemented in this industry. We prepared detail charts of material flow, cash flow, information flow of this industry. By theses charts we identify major issues. End to end supply chain is also made by getting information’s from all the departments and suppliers of this industry Master garments manufacture gents, ladies and baby garments. Their main customers are Levis, CK etc. and also export their garments. Somehow they provide garments to local market but this ratio is less in number. Firstly customer give design and company prepare a sample and if approve by the customer, production is start. Fabric is purchased from master textile which is located in the same location where garment factory located. Fabric is then stored in garment factory store but problem which we identify is that these fabric remain there for long period. By studying all the processes about ginning, yarn manufacturing, fabric making and garments making we develop pipeline mapping. Form where all the problems can be identified easily. Order fulfillment mapping is also made to show the process that how the master garment full the order of the customer. In value stream mapping we identified the value added and non-value added things and time occur in Master Garments. By preparing value chain analysis we identify primary and secondary activities in Masters Garments. As a result total supply chain and its process are studied and we gave detail information about every process. We gave recommendation and actions plan by applying these on regular intervals these issues can be reduced. We also proposed them the CPFR model.
