Item Influence of social media on the academic performance of students of UMT(UMT, Lahore, 2021) SAMI ULLAHThe purpose of this research study is to examine the influence of Social Media and Academic Performance of UMT students. Two Research questions and two Research hypotheses guided the study. Uses and Gratification theory is applied in this research because it focused on how media is used to satisfy needs. This theory is related to this current study because it shows how social media influences the academic performance of students and they use social media just to satisfy their needs. To achieve this, the survey research design was adopted. Population consists of all the Graduate and post-graduate students. A total sample size of 100 students was selected from UMT. The convenience sampling technique which is the type of non-probability sampling technique was used. A well-constructed and self-developed four-point Likert Type Rating Scale Questionnaire type, titled: Influence of Social Media and Academic Performance of Students Questionnaire was used to collect data from the participants and for the validity of the instrument the designed questionnaire was submitted to the supervisor for examining, correction and approval before distributing it to the respondents. The researcher collected the needed data through the use of questionnaire and Google forms. Research findings showed that a smaller number of students addicted to social media. At the end, the researcher recommended that social media should be used for educational purposes as well. Social Media should be expanded and new pages should be created to enhance academic activities, professors should guarantee that they use social media as a tool to improve the academic performance of students in universities students should be monitored by parents and teachers about how they use social media. Several results indicate that the use of mobile phones and university performance have a good connection since they contribute to behaviors that affect student careers and learning behaviors, such as toxicity, overuse of screen. These trials focus, however, only on the behavior of the mobile phone that gives just some patterns of use. By assessing mobile phone use and academic performance, we are proposing to address this gap by merging both to monitor users. This study is analyzed by students of University of Management and Technology from different departments that study in Lahore. The researcher has used the quantitative survey method to collect the data. They have all used mobile phones to learn academic content and lectures in their everyday lives. In analyzing the outcomes, the positive and negative results and correlations are quantitatively estimated. In this research study quantitative method has been used for data collection, for this purpose questionnaire was formulated containing approximately 18 questions starting from general to specific. A sample of 150 female university students was be selected through convenience sampling from University of Management & Technology. Sample was equally divided among three academic programs offered in UMT, that is BS, MA/MA and MPhil. Cultivation Theory was employed to provide theoretical framework for better understanding. Findings suggested that use of Instagram imposed serious psychological issues in female university students and increased dissatisfaction among the female students regarding their own bodies. Social media leaves a great impact on human behavior. This research‟s findings are particularly for Instagram. In this study the researcher was interested to know about the perspectives of youth on this kind of influence and the awareness on this subject. For the data collection researcher used questionnaire as a tool. Same as purposive and convenient available sampling method we used to select Sample, while the sample size remained 203. 71.9% participants agreed that girls idealize Instagram life and 62.5% called it a threat to social values and norms in observation perspective. 54.2% of participants also disagree with feeling depression after watching lifestyle content of others. Few decades back, Pakistani dramas were considered as a mirror of society and produced quality content which always keep ethics and norms of the society at its prior responsibility. But with the effects of globalization and commercialization, Pakistani media entertainment sector changed dramatically. Many social and taboo issues started to being addressed in TV dramas like, rape, harassment, extra marital affairs and romantic stories, without any precautions or parental guidelines. This study will investigate the such content which is inappropriate and not suitable for every viewer especially for teen agers and children. The objective of the study is to analyze the Pakistani dramas’ content in the light of TV content rating system. Four Pakistani TV dramas from four most famous Pakistani entertainment channels are investigated in this research work. Qualitative research method is used in this study and technique of content analysis is used to analyze the data. The result of the study reveals that, Pakistani TV dramas frequently show such content which is not appropriate for every viewer, most specifically for children. There is the need of media self-regulatory system called “TV Content Rating System” which help the parents and viewers to know about the nature of dramas content which they are going to watch and precaution the parents to avoid their children to see the drama without any parental guidelines.Item Impact of covid-19 on educational routine of higher education students(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Maneesha MaryamThe focus of this study was to determine how students are affected by online studies. The results and learning outcomes of the learner were measured by using their scores, knowledge or skills gained. In Pakistan, online study was not so common earlier but during this pandemic situation, online studies have become very common. This research was about the effects of online education on students’ learning. The quantitative research design is used to collect data and sample size was 100. It has been selected from different Departments of UMT, University of Punjab and LCWU. The age groups of students included are the ones from 18 to 25 years of age. There are many criterions that can be used to access the learning outcomes. Formative questions were used in this study to evaluate the learning outcomes. For this researcher used quantitative research method with close ended questions. The researcher used questionnaire as a tool for collecting the data. It is same as the purposive we used for sampling, while the sample size remained 100 including men and women both above 18 years old. The study was focuses whether development journalism have talked enough about the prevention, awareness, education and motivation of the general public. Research study supported the theory of development communication that is used as theoretical framework in this research thesis. It has different forms over time and space but is tightly associated with economic, socio cultural, family or interpersonal fields. As in many other countries, Pakistan has signed various international statements to empower women, yet Pakistani women also suffer from a high level of discrimination and are economically dependent. Academic material on the empowerment of women worldwide and in Pakistan is also available. A description of socio-cultural elements affecting women's economic empowerment in Pakistan is provided in this research paper. Education obstacles, good work and access to property are key socio-cultural variables. Media has the power to reach big audience by mass communications and is regarded the most important instrument of society in modern times. For the social and economic prosperity of every society, empowerment for women is vitally important. They are the creators, teachers and developers of all people. In such small places in the country in particular, their social maltreatment and neglect of economic decision-making powers falls directly under this research topic. While the media, on the other hand, have particular tasks to carry out to improve society as the fatal pillar of our democracy. It can play an effective part in communicating knowledge to society by empowering women via the education of society. A number of studies have been discussed in this article to increase women's participation in media decision-making and promote decent and balanced representation of women in the Pakistani dramas.
