Item 70 years of queen Elizabeth II(UMT.Lahore, 2023) HUNAINA SHAHIDRoyalty , fashion, power, London has always been my motivation to work harder and achieve them, but to achieve all of it stability and consistency is very important which our generation lacks. But when I think of Queen Elizabeth II it all sums up and makes it look a little easier and achievable . She has set an example that there’s no age or only work rule to run an empire or to accomplish what you desire . Elizabeth stabilising an empire running reigns still manages to serve as a fashion icon slaying lavishing outfits and creating fashion statements while not letting anybody raise a question. . Queen Elizabeth II rarely held back from expressing her personal style over her 70-year reign. Her clothing was instantly recognised and established the style of "royal" attire with its vibrant sequins and unusual headwear. Elizabeth's fashion, style and hard work teaches us that wearing a dress or high heels can’t stop you or limitise you from doing hard chores , as she ran a whole lot empire on her heels . It’s not either a princess or a warrior, it’s both side by side . So this concept inspires me to create my collection in tribute of Queen Elizabeth.Item A BIOPHILIC HAVEN WHERE KNOWLEDGE AND NATURE UNITE THE LIVING LIBRARY(UMT, Lahore, 2025) Muhammad Farzam AzizThe topic I have decided is Biophilic design, it is not really an entirely new concept in the world of architecture and interior design. But its application is now on at top of its existence for very first time. It involves implementation of natural elements to improve the work flow, life style and productivity of human's day to day life. If we talk about its function and implementation in library we can easily see it working and having a very positive impact on the lives of users and public in general. It will create a balance between a working life and beauty & relaxing of a natural environment. In this abstract, we will explore the concept of blending a library's architecture with nature to create a whole different experience of learning and leisure. "Biophilic design is the idea that human possess an innate connection to nature". Main elements of Biophilic designs are Air, Organic elements, Natural light, soft lights, neutral tones and vegetation. Such environment will offer not just learning and studying but it will inspire people to new experiences and ideas. The interior is very accurately designed to bring communities together through space planning, ambiance and material selections. The idea is to have a free-flowing interior, huge spaces, huge walkways. Big windows are given in order to reduce the use of artificial light which is sustainable too. Cross ventilation and cooling systems ensure that air circulates properly giving an experience of being outdoors, green plants and vegetation inside helps enhancing the air quality. Talking about materials, it’s very clear that any interior theme has its specific kind of material. When talking about Biophilic theme we will have naturally existing materials like Wood, stone and clay, they are to evoke warmth. These materials are not just for functional and environmental purpose but rather for their soothing experiences. Other things like Earthy tones and organic furniture, texture and shapes enhance the experience inside the library even more, giving it a natural and aesthetically pleasing look and design. The library's layout is designed to help a variety of user needs. I have implemented quite areas for reading and study, they are positioned near windows to give out a look of outside landscape that will make the experience of reading even better, this also helps user in concentrating on whatever the work he is doing. There are communal spaces also like Community Lounge, Conference Rooms and even Atrium designed at the heart of layout to facilitate collaboration. Sustainability is one of huge requirements in today's design so I have implemented that too, since my whole idea is based on organic interior. The materials, the furniture everything is environment friendly. The wood is not just sustainable but it will help in noise cancellation too. More use of natural light than artificial lights will save cost and help environment too. In summary, the whole concept offers a transformative and sustainable experience. By adding sustainable and natural materials, library also becomes a place of emotional and intellectual well-being of human beings in addition to being a place of learning.Item A case study of quality assurance in a garment industry(UMT, Lhr, 2009-07-10) Asia RasulItem A city confined juvenile detention centre(UMT.Lahore, 2025) Muniba JavedThe effective design and furnishing of juvenile detention centers would influence the mind and the emotions of young offenders to a large extent. This study examines how simple design options can transform punitive environments that are too harsh to supportive and instructive environments that become beneficial to society. The proposed designs are based on valid concepts combining requirements on the provided security and humane treatment. They look at elements of building such as mental impact, people in the designs and the issues with the existing buildings. The literature suggests that better designed juvenile detention centers willresult in a better reasonability and a lower rate of recurrence as well as better rehabilitation. All these change the emphasis to punishment and shift it to primary objectives of juvenile justice systems. Any juvenile who commits antisocial behavior that his or her parents cannot control and yet they face proceedings is called a juvenile delinquent. The problem of juvenile delinquency has not been limited to some parts of the world as both centralized as well as semi-organized developing and industrialized regions have been affected by it. The criminal justice system is given utmost priority in any democratic society because it holds everybody accountable. It is doubtful that in case of instability and insecurity in a society there can be economic growth as citizens are in fear of safety and their property. To many youths currently, the traditional systems that they are supposed to go through in order to transform into families, to schools and then into the labor market are failing. The social connections which formerly helped one in easily fitting into the societal niche are slowly decaying, and life careers are increasingly becoming diverse and ambiguous. Such circumstances contribute to the situation where juvenile delinquency has an increased chance to thrive. It has been said that, no one can stand to say s/he knows a nation without ever being there in its jails, Nelson Mandela himself once said, when addressing a group of people. Who can know better than? The purpose of the prison in Pakistan has long turned out to be the one of pathetic imprisonment, where the criminal is being punished in the crudest way. This has not only led to crime but it has also devastated very many lives. Overall, present-day efforts to treat juvenile delinquency can be defined by the lack of concerted effort along with the lack of the taskoriented and effective social work on both potential victims and future criminals. This way we encourage recidivism and this will be harmful to our society. The current state of affairs in juvenile delinquency as the highly complex and widespread issue is not properly covered by crime prevention programs which are suspicious, to say the least. Thus in this thesis, emphasis has been given to interior and architectural restoration. It aims at coming up with a heath and rehabilitation facility where young people will rehab to ensure that they get back into the society. The thesis proposal aims at putting up a special correctional CENTRE specifically dedicated to dealing with young offenders as there are not many juvenile correctional CENTREs within the Pakistani context. Achievement of the above goal by the researcher is done in various ways i.e. acquisition of a better understanding of juvenile delinquents, their psyche, the reasons why they committed a crime, the purpose of incarceration, therapeutic setting and the formulated design of a rehabilitation CENTRE. The main target here will be to rehabilitate them by providing a caring environment where the thinking of the juveniles can be changed early enough through education, counseling and the supply of needs.Item A closer look at nature's astonishment(UMT Lahore, 2023-10-12) Seerat Ul UroojLichens are a complex life form that is a symbiotic partnership of two separate organisms, a fungus, and an alga. The dominant partner is the fungus, which gives the lichen the majority of its characteristics, from its thallus shape to its fruiting bodies. Lichens are found abundantly growing in various places like on rocks, walls, roofs, tree barks, etc. There are three main lichen body types: • Crustose • Foliose • Fruticose With the many splendid things we see on earth like pretty flowers and tall hulking trees, we often time fail to appreciate little things that seem ugly in our eyes because of their nature. But as we look deeper into these tiny things like lichen or fungus we'll be able to see beauty in them. They naturally have vibrant colors, textures and shapes. If you happen to take a walk around your place, for sure you could see moss and lichens. These organisms which we overlook, are frequently confused but are actually different. Both are used by humans as food and as sources of medicine and dye. They also provide two-thirds of the food supply for the caribou and reindeer that roam the far northern ranges. I am inspired by their rich source of texture, color, and pattern. Lichens are small but mighty organisms that offer valuable lessons on how to thrive in any environment. Their secret lies in their cooperative nature. A union of fungi, algae, and other microorganisms, lichens demonstrate that working for the common good is useful, necessary, and sustainable. They are long-living and slow-growing, showing us that strength comes through adaptation and patience. They have a profound impact on their surroundings, eroding wood and stone to pave the way for other, more diverse organisms to thrive. I have painted different compositions that will be converted into fabric samples. I will use mixed-media textile techniques to create different and 3d unique samples and products for my thesis. from all of my work, I will make a unique and different end product.Item A comparative study of flame retardancy on cotton and polyester.(UMT Lahore, 2024-05-15) Auwn Muhammad; Muhammad YousufThis thesis investigates the effectiveness of different concentrations of flame-retardant finishes on cotton and polyester fabrics, as well as the impact of padder RPM speed on the application process. According to the study, increasing the concentration of flame-retardant finishes can substantially increase the flame resistance of both fabrics; they increased from 10 seconds to 28 seconds. The RPM speed of the padder had no effect on the results, indicating that flame resistance solely depended on the concentration of the finish. These findings highlight the potential for using higher concentrations of flame-retardant finishes to enhance fire safety, with implications for the textile industry in developing more effective and durable fire-resistant materials. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term durability, environmental impact, and commercial applications of these finishes.Item A comparative study of flame retardancy on polyester fabric.(UMT Lahore, 2025-08-27) M.Muneeb; Abu HurairaThis thesis investigates the effectiveness of different concentrations of flame-retardant finishes on polyester fabrics, as well as the impact of padder rpm speed on the application process. According to the study, increasing the concentration of flame-retardant finishes can substantially increase the flame resistance of both fabrics. For polyester, burning time increased from 10 seconds to 28 seconds. The rpm speed of the padder had no effect on the results, indicating that flame resistance is solely dependent on the concentration of the finish. These findings highlight the potential for using higher concentrations of flame-retardant finishes to enhance fabric safety, with implications for the textile industry in developing more effective and durable fire-resistant materials. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term durability, environmental impact, and commercial application of these finishes.Item A comparative study on the faults in knitted garment manufacturing and their remedial measures(UMT Lahore, 2024-11-14) Muhammad Rehan FarrukhThe purpose of this study is to explore the existing manufacturing faults in the knitwear manufacturing process as a case of Moderno Fabrics, Lahore, with reference to polo shirt products. Using Pareto analysis and fishbone diagrams, I established that a 13% lead loss was experienced through the two most wasteful areas of the dyeing and cutting sectors. The major defect categories in order were, uneven washing (8%), mechanical damage (warp breaks; 8%), height problems (buffer, winding, short pallets; 6%), width problems (6%), and residuals (5%). Root causes like non-uniform dyeing, improper temp control, incorrect pre-treatment, and wrong fabric handling were found. The proposed corrective actions from the findings include dye mixing standardization, temperature control plans, routine machine maintenance, automatic measurements, and across-the-board worker training. The study provides useful insights, but future research should study all departments and use more advanced analytical tools. These focused actions bring a noticeable impact on costs, productivity improvement, and operational efficiency in knitwear manufacturing (national and international).Item A Comprehensive Health app(UMT.Lahore, 2024) Heera ShahbazHealth mate improves the process of scheduling medical tests and getting laboratory services, in addition to offering online appointments and home visits. Every year there is a festival held in Texas and 400 species bring in this festival. I have taken inspiration from this festival. When I saw this festival it gave me peace and beautiful colors around me. I thought that I was in some other world. The festival celebrates every year the historic word mariposa meaning butterfly. The adorable flying insects known as butterflies have large, flaky wings. A four-stage insect life cycle applies to butterflies. First stage is the larva. Then it develops toward the metamorphosis stage as a caterpillar. After undergoing metamorphosis, the butterfly develops stunning wings. Butterflies' vibrant wings provide beauty to the environment. When I saw butterflies around me I thought that butterflies and humans are almost equal. Butterfly born as a larva as time passes it converts into a caterpillar. After sometimes it converts into a butterfly with some beautiful colors. In the beginning butterflies don't even know how to fly but hard work can teach them the first ride of air. When a human being is born he does not experience anything but as the time passes he grows up and knows the balance and imbalance of life and starts struggling for achieving something just like a butterfly and fulfilling his life with colors. I used two butterflies in my thesis, one is peacock pansy and the other one is swallow tail. I used squares in the sketching which are representative of barriers in human life. Butterflies are important for the plants because they are the pollinators. Plants get food from the butterflies. One indication of a healthy ecology and habitat is the presence of butterflies. Some invertebrates are abundant in areas with a high butterfly and moth population. Together, they offer a variety of environmental advantages, including natural pest control and pollination. In addition, ecologists frequently employ butterflies as model species to examine the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation as well as climate change. I would take my thesis on installation.Item A multidisciplinary design studio(UMT.Lahore, 2024) Shanzah Anwaar BaigBeing a dynamic, multidisciplinary design studio, Define creates entirely new points by mixing the vibrant spectrum of the business atmosphere through the spectacles of an eclectic blend. It helps to combine extraordinary and strange atmosphere that has been captured which highlight the fantasy of life and regular elements of forest. Enchanted forest theme employs different distinctive range of color palate like green, brown, blue and purple and variety of materials could be used to provide depth and visual of the designs to the viewers. My methodology is to implement various techniques into my plan that are renowned by different great painters. Experimenting different methods with different color scheme into the setting could be great start with the inspiration of enchanted forest theme. I was impressed by Jackson Pollock, Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky painters that could help to picture the enchanted of backwoods. This method helps to create wide range of textile products by incorporation abstract art designs into it, including wall hangings, cushions, and scarves. I was able to produce both appealingly and logically arresting that are charming and characteristic pieces. Variety of fabrics are used like organic cotton, linen or bamboo that were also affordable and environmentally friendly materials which also gives a natural and earthly vibes. Environmental awareness has also been shown through these pieces by using recycled materials. According to a creative viewpoint, it allowed me to explore the beauty and density of everyday life that is hidden from naked eyes by exploring more unique occurrence of backwoods. The creation of these samples that are created by the method to make dense appearance of the Enchanted Forest captures the spirit of the forest and its earthly calms that make the sense of mystery and dreamlike by showcasing the designer's innovation and talent behind it. Overall the Enchanted Forest that has been represent in various ways throughout the history has provided with a lot of inspiration to me. Through Abstract paintings and bringing patterns from well-known painters has shown the loveliness and density of the natural world.Item A pre-wedding ritual(UMT.Lahore, 2025) SUMAIYA TARIQMehndi night is an important pre-marriage ritual in South Asian society, especially in Pakistan and India, which reflects the hopes of a couple's union. The beginning of a bride's wedding ceremony is marked by this colorful event which is important for both social and cultural norms. The ceremony is defined by the use of henna (mehndi) on the bride's hands and feet, as well as with dance, music and family celebrations. Given their role in South Asian societies, especially in Pakistani and Indian society, the purpose of the mehndi night is the focus of this essay in the form of a pre-marriage ceremony, which aims to investigate its history, symbolism and cultural importance. Mehndi is a technique that combines both traditional and modern methods. Henna was previously used in ancient Egypt and spread to the Indian subcontinent, where it became an important part of the ceremonies. The importance of rituals is not only in its visual beauty, but also in its symbolic sense of fertility, wealth and protection of the bride from evil spirits. It is believed that applying henna at night mehndi will give a couple, especially the bride in her new life. The paper mehndi will discuss the social mobility of the function, focusing on how it strengthens family relations and enhances community bonding. The evening is usually a performance of joy, which can come in the form of traditional tunes, dancing to the melodies, and a donation of vibrant clothing, which are all involved in the ceremony. These traditions inherited from generations represent the strong cultural heritage of South Asia, but have also developed over time, especially in cities, where modern influences are associated with traditional practices. Additionally, the research mehndi will explain in detail on the contemporary changes of the night, especially in the light of globalization of trends. The ceremonies have changed, as a result of the development of contemporary music styles, fashion and electronic media, the traditional with contemporary has been combined. Nevertheless, with these changes, the rituals remain the basic principle of the festival, communal solidarity, and blessings for the bride. The study will identify the importance of the night in strengthening the bride and her family and in the wider social environment in which the phenomenon occurs. The thesis will use qualitative information, such as interviews with informers, personal remembrance, and an examination of symbolic meanings behind some rituals. Finally, the mehndi night is not just a ritual ceremony; This is a proof of cultural heritage and family unity within South Asian communities. In an attempt to contribute to the overall understanding of the pre-Shaadi ceremony as a platform to celebrate community unity, respect for tradition and the beginning of a new experience in the bride's life, the paper investigates the phenomenon.Item A report submitted to the department of textile engineering in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree(UMT Lahore, 2009) Muhammad UsmanItem A revival of vintage asethetics in textile design(UMT Lahore, 2025-08-08) Laiba WaheedThe creative potential of retro art as a source of inspiration for modern textile design is examined in this thesis. This project reinterprets retro motifs, color palettes, and design sensibilities to produce a new, expressive textile line that draws inspiration from the nostalgic appeal of mid-century aesthetics. In order to create creative textile designs appropriate for both fashion and interior use, the study explores the visual language of retro culture, which includes its striking graphic patterns, whimsical compositions, and unique hues. The initial phase of this project involves investigation of the origins and evolution of retro art with a focus on design moments from the 1950 to 1980. This is involved looking at the old posters, ads, fabrics from the popular culture. Getting inspiration from good sources, design publications, online sources and galleries. I investigate their visual characters, their color schemes, symbolic meanings and the cultural significance. I made a design concept that combines my own creative style with a retro art aesthetics. First of all, I made rough sketches to try different geometric shapes, abstract patterns and bright and retro colors. After that, I turned this idea into digital designs using software (Photoshop). I experimented layers and repeat patterns so that I make a design more impressive and interesting. In all this process, my work improved because of the feedback from my supervisor. I tried different ways for my digital illustration, mixed media and hand-drawn artwork. By using these methods, I managed feel of old paintings into colors of textile patterns. Each design's emotional tone and storytelling potential were carefully considered in an effort to arouse feelings of cosiness, happiness, and eternal inventiveness. In order to make the designs a reality, appropriate fabrication methods like digital textile printing, hand and machine embroidery were taken into consideration. The final collection demonstrates how modern interpretations of vintage art may emerge in textile designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and culturally relevant, fusing traditional beauty with cutting-edge creativity. Retro art, textile design, pattern development, visual culture, surface design, mix media, fabrication techniques, artistic expression.Item A Short Animated Film on Climate Change Awareness “FADING HOME”(UMT.lahore, 2021) MUHAMMAD FAIZANTo us humans, the only home that we know of is planet earth, Our only home.
