Item Automating S.O.S call for motorway & highway police(UMT, Lahore, 2005) Hisham Khalid; Faisal SaeedItem Communication through VoIP using an open source PBX(UMT, Lahore, 2025) Irfan Asif and Usman AsifItem Device control & alarm monitoring system through SMS(UMT, Lahore, 2007) Talal Tahir; Ihsan Yousaf; Nauman Mahmood Alvi; Tayyab Masood KhattakThe objective of this project is to enable users to remotely control their routers, server, switch and home appliances and systems using a cell phone-based interface. To access the control unit, the user should send an authentication code along with the required/desired function/action to control the devices via GSM. Upon being properly authenticated, the cell phone-based interface at desired location (control unit) would relay the commands to a microcontroller that would perform the required function/action, and return a function completion code that would be sent to the source of the original command (user's cell phone).Item End to End VoIP Communication using Asterisk (An Open Source PBX)(UMT, Lahore, 2007) Zaheer Ahmed, Muhammad Mustafa Aziz, Faheem Iqbal Bhatti and Areeba TasawarThis report aims to describe the complete process that was followed while developing an End-to-End Telephone Service using VoIP through Asterisk (An open source PBX). Our project aims to create an Internet telephony system that allows subscribers to make long distance calls at rates equivalent to local rates. The subscribers are able to use traditional hard phones instead of soft phones(or computers) for communicating via our service. The system is similar to that of'net2phone' and other Internet telephony service providers except that we are providing a hard phone interface to our users. This allows users with access to all the facilities available through Internet telephony without needing either a computer or an Internet connection. Hence our solution is not only cost effective but also very user friendly. We used Asterisk to act as the exchange for our main servers. Asterisk is an open source Private Branch Exchange (PBX) implemented in Linux. It has the facility to connect to the Local Telephone exchange or PSTN and other Asterisk exchanges. We have implemented a menu-based service on our main servers that allows our subscribers to authenticate and dial the number they desire to connect with. Our server connects to another Asterisk server at the remote location through the Internet. The remote server is also connected to its local exchange. This will allow the user of one PSTN e.g. Lahore to connect to another remote PSTN e.g. Karachi through our servers. The voice traffic generated after the establishment of a connection is transmitted using Voice over IP (VoIP).Item FM TRANSMITTER AND FM JAMMER(UMT, Lahore, 2007) CH.ASKARI HASAN, M.TAYYAB TARIQ, NOMAN MAQSOOD and MUHAMMAD ASIFItem GPS Vehicle Tracker(UMT, Lahore, 2025) Omer Farooq Alvi, Muhammad Hayat, Tabish Maieed and Omer Riaz MalikThe purpose of this project was to develop a real time application based on ^^Global Positioning System" which facilitates the users to track expensive property, important cargo or fleet of vehicles, mobile objects while sitting in the confines of a central control room. 'The user is able to request the position data by calling the remote system, built around 8051 Microcontroller, serially interfaced to both GPS device and GSM based cellular phone, for the purpose of communication. The system acknowledges data request and gathers it from GPS. The position data is then transmitted through SMS to a cellular phone, specified by the user at the control room. The control room has another cellular phone interfaced serially to a server. The server has software installed that reads the SMS after specified intervals to gather updated position data. A Database of different location names are loaded in to that software which in turn shows the vehicle's actual location name. In this report we are also adding our final documentation, all the essential data of final project and information of Microcontroller and Server Software.Item GSM Based Home Security System(UMT, Lahore, 2007) Wasif Ali, Moazzam Waqar and Farhan SuddleItem Microcontroller based GSM Trainer(UMT, Lahore, 2008) Muhammad Usman and Jawad AfzalThe purpose of this project was to develop a real time application based on "Global System for Mobile Communication" which facilitates the users in learning and understanding of GSM technology and its functionality. This revolution in telecom sector brought not only the technology transfer in Pakistan but also it provided an environment of healthy competition. In this new revolutionized world, drastic changes occurred in respect of tariff and traffic measures of Telco's in Pakistan. These changes ultimately resulted in increase of congestion on PTCL network. In the existing network of PTCL, the actual reason of congestion is Circuit Switching and TDM technology. In circuit switching, an end to end connection is established between two subscribers as long as rail remains established. Capacity is reserved on all trunk lines and switches along the way from party A to party B.Item Optimization of Economic Load Dispatch(UMT, Lahore, 2015) Muhammad Fahad Khan KhosaElectricity demand is increasing daily, due to the rapid growth of electrical and electronics products in market. The main objective has now shifted to improve the performance, lower the cost of solution and to make reliable power system. To meet the increasing demand of electrical load, new conventional and nonconventional generation's systems are needed to install. Due to the rapid changes in modem world, energy shortage is a big issue. Due to depleting conventional sources with time, energy experts are interested in renewable energy sources. In order to ensure the stability of power system, demand and generation must be balanced. Hence, the economical load dispatch technique is applied to define the optimal solution for generation units, power output, and to minimize the operating fuel costs of these units.Item PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORKING TECHNOLOGIES(UMT, Lahore, 2007) Ghulam QadirPassive Optical Networks (PONs) are the networks that use passive devices in distribution networks and therefore provide a low budget and cost effective solution for the access networks. The main component of PON are Optical Line Terminal (OLT) , Optical Network Unit (ONU) and Optical Distribution Network (ODN). PONs can be deployed in different topologies such as Ring , Bus and Star depending upon the requirements. PONs provide both point-to-point (P2P) and point-to-multipoint (P2MP) architectures. The first standard of PON proposed by Full Service Access Networks, a group of 20 companies, was Asynchronous Transmission Mode Passive Optical Network (ATM-PON) that later on renamed as Broadband Passive Optical Network (BPON). Three other types of PONs are Ethernet-PON, Gigabit Ethernet- PON and Wavelength Division Multiplex - PON. The purpose of this document is to generate a brief overview of PON technologies, their comparison with existing technologies and make assertion on the future scope of these technologies.Item QoS in IEEE 802.16 Networks(UMT, Lahore, 2006) Sharjeel AftabIEEE 802.16 Wireless standard specifies a fixed point to multipoint broadband wireless access. IEEE 802.16 MAC provides extensive bandwidth allocation and (QoS) mechanisms for various types of applications. However, details of packet scheduling mechanisms for both downlink and uplink direction are left unspecified in the standard. The goal is to provide delay and bandwidth guarantees for various kinds of applications and to maintain fairness among various flows while still achieving high bandwidth utilization. This Thesis focuses on current version of QoS architecture of IEEE 802.16 and the results have been justified with the help of simulation to support requirements of all kinds of service flows specified in IEEE 802.16 standard.Item Routing and QoS Approaches for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs)(UMT, Lahore, 2006) Farhan YousafThe popularity of wireless networks has significantly increased during the past few years. This increase in the popularity of wireless communication is due to the advancements in technology and growing availability of mobile devices like PDAs, laptops and cell phones. These days infra-structureless wireless networks have become an active field of communication and networking research due to their huge demand in the commercial market. The infra-structureless wireless networks are called Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). An ad hoc network is a network of autonomous nodes that are self-organizing and self-configuring multi-hop networks that establish communication without any infrastructure support. Mobile ad hoc networks are also characterized by their special features such as dynamic topology, limited transmission range, absence of infrastructure, no centralized administration and a potential lack of security.Item Shortest path finder(UMT, Lahore, 2025) RAO ZAHOOR AHMAD, MUHAMMAD TAHIR and QAMAR HASSAN IQBALThe goal our project is to develop a Shortest Path Finder (SPF) with specified point on ground for indoor environment.
