Pakistan is a developing country that has been severely hit by climate change affects in some last year’s Although Pakistan contributes very little to global greenhouse gas emissions. To face potential impacts of climate change in near future, a strong policy and institutional setup should be developed. Therefore this research aims to study the possible knowledge that policy makers and the government officials should focus on Therefore they can prepare themselves in the near future. Focusing on future vulnerability is the key feature for the achievement of Sustainable development. Government officials and policy makers face many challenges for Effective implementation of strategies to face the possible climate change affects, but the main gap lies in lack of participation of different affective communities at any level of policy-making. Therefore there is a strong need of Education on climate change and affective awareness at the governmental and local levels that will help us for Building the capacity for researchers policy makers and local communities. Therefore according to present and past circumstances effective measures should be needed to address climate change phenomena in Pakistan. It is essential that the government strongly recognize potential future climate risks and protect the environment.Item Coal resources supply, handling and management of power projects in salt range area, Punjab(UMT, Lahore, 2019) Ayesha UmberThe objective of the study and the research work is to understand a conceptual methodology and practical case study for the five major areas of Coal i.e. resource availability, mine ability, transportation, consumption and environmental effects & mitigation options in establishment of coal-fired power projects. The purpose is to convert the indigenous coal resources/potential particularly in the Salt Range, Punjab to the form that can be used for power generation through a scientific and professional slant of coal resource supply handling and management. Having gone through the existing coal resources authentic estimations, on-going traditional mining and the need of a structured sustainable demand/supply market, there appears to be no hitch in establishing a 50 MW coal power plant near Pind Dadan Khan, District Jhelum (taken as a case study). The grey areas are mainly the mechanism of establishing the workable coal supplies through buying agreements and sale to the power producer. The role of a capable and viable entity in the form of a company is introduced which shall play a pivotal coordinated bridge role between the coal miners and power plant investor. A field survey has been conducted with the help of questionnaire filled through online from senior professionals performing on senior posts of construction industry of Punjab. Lean six sigma has positive and moderate relation with project success. It means when implementation of six sigma increases, chances of project success increase and vice versa. When under planning projects are exposed to Six Sigma, the chances of project success improve better than under execution projects. For organizations which have successfully implemented six sigma, skills and expertise ranked highest in importance. In contrast, for organizations which have successfully implemented lean manufacturing, employee involvement and culture change ranked highest. It is accepted that implementation of lean six sigma has positive and significant impact on project success with respect to construction industry. PM’s competency is very important factor affecting planning, scheduling & communication. As the construction has a dynamic environment. It is accepted that competency of project manager has positive and significant impact on project success with respect to construction industry.Item Factors hindering effective implementation of energy policies in Pakistan(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Hamza BabarDespite the fact that Pakistan has had Energy Policies for nearly three decades, the country is yet to see a fruitful future. From political instability to international influence, Pakistan’s economic progress has been halted way too many times. The government’s inability to monitor progress or least implement energy policy to its full potential has placed Pakistan under the present energy crisis. This study focuses upon the underlying reasons that has held back the country from achieving it’s set energy goals. From energy consumption to preferable way forward, this research aims to find solutions to Pakistan’s energy deficit. A detailed look into the irregularities in energy project and how renewable energy can mitigate if not solve all of the country’s energy problems.Item Implementation of safety standards and hazards management in steel industry(UMT, Lahore, 2019) Sadia AwanA countries’ economic growth is mainly contributed by its industrial sector. Industrialization in a region brings both the growth of transport and communication but with the increasing industrialization, occupational risks associated with industries are also increasing. Mass production, all over the world, has encouraged the use of machinery while the workplace security got no attention. An organization should have strong management commitment in order to be successful. This study is about the laws relating to hazards and safety management in Pakistan Steel Industry. It is proven that commitment in an organization regarding two vitals that is health safety should be given prime importance in order to achieve safe working environment. If the top management of any organization has strong leadership skills, it should have strong management commitment too concerning wellbeing of workers. Study depicted that there are mostly managerial defects in providing safe working environment to the workers. Effort is being put in to search out the gaps between hypothetical safety laws present and those of which are implemented and how it can be further improved.Item Improvement in municipal solid waste management system in Lahore, Pakistan(UMT, Lahore, 2019) Muhammad AqeelThe administration of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is a most important crisis in developing countries. Pakistan is also facing the problem of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) administration. The Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) made up of the wastes produces every day by the inhabited, business, and organizational origin. The inadequate compilation and inappropriate removal of MSW can spoil earth, atmosphere and hose down and may pretense hazard to person physical condition and surroundings. Recent literature on current Solid Waste Management practices in one of the major city of Pakistan (Lahore) has been reviewed, and an effort has been made to provide a comprehensive review on the total amount of municipal solid waste generated, storage, collection, physical composition, transfer, processing and disposal of SW. In addition, original prototype of compilation, treatment, transportation, handling and removal of MSW was evaluated for this city. The observation was lastly concluded with fruitful conclusions that will helpful to give confidence to the researcher and viable power in authority to work in the direction of more betterment and contribute to build this city clean. Solid waste management (SWM) is one of the most important reasons of environmental devastation in Pakistan. This research deals with disposal, transportation, composition, collection, generation, and in addition as the current expenditure of the waste running on the foundation of the charge of planned enhanced arrangement of management on the basis of 100% waste gathering and 60% gathering of the whole waste using the IWM-2 LCI model. A Data Ganj Bakhsh Town (DGBT) of Lahore City GIS map of District viewing shared storage space amenities has also been provided.Item Lean manufacturing assessment in weaving textiles with regards to ergonomics practice- A case study(UMT, Lahore, 2019) Asma AslamRapidly changing textile environment and intense competitive situation forced many organizations worldwide to reduce cost and become more responsive to customer demands of which speed, time, and customized services are of high importance. Lean manufacturing offers them a proven method to reduce costs, eliminate waste, increase productivity, maintain high levels of quality and still make a profit. The concept of lean manufacturing was developed for maximizing the resource utilization through minimization of waste, later on lean was formulated in response to the fluctuating and competitive business environment. Due to rapidly changing business environment the organizations are forced to face challenges and complexities. Any organization whether manufacturing or service oriented to survive may ultimately depend on its ability to systematically and continuously respond to these changes for enhancing the product value. Therefore value adding process is necessary to achieve this perfection; hence implementing a lean manufacturing system is becoming a core competency for any type of organizations to sustain. Taking into account the previous researches, it is concluded that in textile sector, weaving is the most ignored sector by the researchers and if lean is implemented, ergonomic factor is ignored. In this research, a lean route is developed for the organization to implement the lean 5S technique integrating ergonomics principles as it is a key to take out one of the types of wastes called Muri. The Qualitative survey analysis’ repercussions of Sapphire Textile Mills (STML) weaving unit are summarized to illustrate the study of lean elements assessment and implementation in demanding and challenging environment. The data was collected through questionnaires and semi-structural interviews. The findings of this study were synthesized to develop a unified theory for implementation assessment of lean elements with regards to ergonomics.Item Optimized utilization of advanced CCTV analytics(UMT, Lahore, 2020) Mr. Raza HashimIncreasing traffic on highways and motorways spawned an interest in Toll collection at toll plazas of national highways. Toll tax is collected to recover the capital outlay which includes road safety and maintenance expenditure and also add ups in the national budget. At some places of local city toll plazas in Pakistan there are no CCTV cameras installed and simple token is issued to vehicles. And where CCTV cameras are installed have purpose of just monitoring the evidence at toll booth. Although CCTV Security cameras are very important part of any facility to monitor and capture the evidence in case of any incident. Now a day’s bank, schools, hotels, airports, hospitals, restaurants, stadiums, shopping marts and other areas also interested in CCTV coverage. Now addition to the camera, advanced video analytics introduced in the system enabling more reliable CCTV platform to secure places. For better safety features we need to understand the importance of Video Analytics of Security cameras and its uses and benefits. By using advanced Vehicle Classification Analytics at Toll plazas we can actually save cost and Toll Tax. Data is collected by toll plazas at national highways and city roads where toll is being collected. Purpose is to make sure the toll collection at toll booth. For this purpose existing setup of CCTV can be used with advanced video analytics of Vehicle Classification, using vehicle classification at toll booth exact number of vehicles and exact type of vehicles passes through the single toll booth will be monitored by the automatic computer based intelligence system. Process for vehicle classification and report generation is discussed and effective results evaluated.Item Performance improvement by cellular manufacturing techniques in a piston manufacturing line(UMT, Lahore, 2017) Basit KamalIn modern industrialization, every industry wants to make profits with promised delivery time and minimum material waste. Since the human race is to make new products to attract customers, there has been competitions as not in means of technology but in the ways of production. As the word Group Technology (GT) sounds that it should be former, but it allows organization to compete with each other minimizing work-in-progress, lead times while producing a wide range of products. Cellular manufacturing has been a widely research conducted subject throughout the world. Different part-machine algorithms, coding system techniques, pattern recognition methods are introduced. The traditional body has been grouped under categories like part family identification, GT in engineering design etc. Different methods are available for it. In Pakistan cellular manufacturing are rather new and had application in very few industries. The main aim of this thesis is to apply these cellular manufacturing algorithms and techniques in an industry within Pakistan and then evaluate the results generated from it. By applying these techniques it is noted that there is a massive change in material handling, throughput time, setup time etc. The results from manual methods and cellular algorithms are generated and then they are compared and analyzed.Item Regulatory control over factors influencing environment and human health by cement industry(UMT, Lahore, 2019) Rumesha AkramNow a day’s air pollution due to industries is becoming major environmental problem in Pakistan. A countries’ economic growth mainly depends on its industrial sector. But this rapid increase in industrialization is deteriorating environment by depletion of natural resources and energy consumption. With the increase in energy consumption, emission of greenhouse gases (PM, CO, NOx and SOx etc) has also increased and is negatively effecting the environment and human health. And unfortunately there are no proper air emission control strategies for industries which are one of the major reasons of increase in air pollution. This study is about different factors of cement industry that have negative effects on environment. These factors are categorized into air pollution (energy source, unimplemented laws and policies for air pollutants, planned maintenance) and human health issues related to Pakistan Cement Industry (taken as case study).The pollution issues in an organization can be resolved by implementing laws and regulations in each area. Study depicted that in Pakistan, industries do not work significantly to reduce hazardous emissions and also there are mostly managerial defects in controlling industry’s pollution. Effort is being put in search out the gaps between laws present for the above mentioned factors, those which are implemented and how they can be made better.Item Status of health and safety measures in heavy industrial equipment manufacturing plant Lahore(UMT, Lahore, 2025) Munim ShaukatIndustrial Sector is of great importance for economic development of every country. Pakistan Industrial Sector is the second largest individual sector of the economy accounting for 25 % of the GDP [1].Whatever sort of business we do, there is always the possibility of an accident or damage to someone’s health. We need to have a system (e.g. have a policy, designate people and have clear procedures) in place to manage health and safety. We need to be able to show how we plan, organize, control, monitor and review preventative measures. A work man generally spends most of his time at work place; therefore work place should be safe and healthy. Poor and unsafe working conditions at the workplace have a hazardous affect on worker’s health, life and safety. Young workers are frequently injured at work. Education and awareness strategies to prevent injuries among young workers are common but they are often ineffective. In this research we will visit in Al Qadri group of industries and will observe health and safety practice there. A questionnaire survey will be performed to collect data regarding safety issues. Some suggestions will be given after survey result.Item Status of health and safety measures in heavy industrial equipment manufacturing plant Lahore(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Muhammad Qasim HammadThere is plenty of empirical evidence and literature highlighting the highly positive impact of transformational leadership on project success. Among numerous other factors, it has also been observed that the motivation of team members plays a key role in the successful execution of projects. This study main aim is to conduct qualitative research in the telecom sector to find out the role of trust in the transformational leadership for project success. For this purpose, in addition to the review of relevant literature, surveys of employees and project managers in the IT and telecom sector was conducted. 159 responses were collected via online method from Telecom and IT sector in Pakistan. Descriptive analysis, correlation, and regression analysis have been done by using SPSS 21 and mediation analysis has been done by using the Hayes process (Model 4). Turned out that transformational leadership is highly effective in building motivation in team members, leading towards accomplishments of project goals and objectives, milestones, and eventually, satisfied customers. Analysis of findings helped in determining the causal relationship between transformational leadership and project success with trust playing a mediating role.Item Subsidizing the effect of climate change through solar vegetation(UMT, Lahore, 2021) ZEESHAN MUBARIKThe purpose of this study is to subsidize the climate change through solar vegetation while taking into account the important role of solar vegetation. Climate change effects our environment and has various effects on the ecosystem either good or worst. The aim is to describe the climate change and subsidize it with the solar vegetation. Controlling variables used for the study are global warming, climate change, greenhouse effect etc. A sample size of 101 respondents has been selected in major cities of Pakistan. Correlation technique is used for the data analysis. The study strengthens and suggests the determinants of climate change within Pakistan. The findings show that Climate can be changed with increased in planting trees, reducing factories smoke, lesser use of fossil fuels. Pakistan has to follow the developed systems to maintain the ecosystem and control the overall change in climate.
