Item Emotion regulation strategies and mental health problems in adolescents(UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY, 2015) Tehmina YasserThe current study aimed to explore the phenomenon of emotion regulation and its relation with the mental health problems in adolescents. For this purpose cross sectional research design was used. This research was carried out in a series.The total number of participants was 364 (53% boys and 43% girls) with an age range 10-19 years. An indigenous scale was developed for the assessment of emotion regulation, namely ERQA along with demographic Performa, and for mental health problems SCPS was administered. Factor analysis revealed three factors, namely Internalizing, Active Resolution and Distraction. Hierarchial Regression Analysis was run which showed that the nternalizing factor of ERQA was the positive predictor of the mental health problems and Active Resolution was found to be a negative predictor of mental health problems. Distraction was not found to be the predictor of mental health problems. Gender, sector and attachment styles were also found to be strong predictors of mental health problems. Research results were discussed in terms of clinical and research implication, cultural differences and its impact on the mental health problems of the adolescents.Item Social rejection by peers and social anxiety in adolescents(UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY, 2015) Komal HumaAn adolescent is one of the most important stages of child's life. This study deals with social rejection in adolescents from their peer group and their association with the emotional and behavioral problems which is experienced by them. Participants were 300 students (150 boys and 150 girls) from 8th, 9th and 10thclass. To measure the social rejection by peers in adolescents, an indigenous scale was developed which has high internal consistency (a = .92). To assess the participant's emotional and behavioral problem School Children Problem Scale (Saleem & Mahmood, 2011)and for measuring attachment pattern the Attachment Questionnaire for Children(Muris, Messters, Melick, & Zwambag, 2000) were used. The results of Regression analysis indicated that Social rejection by peers is strong positive predictor of emotional and behavioral problem in adolescents whereas age, gender and class were found to be negative predictor of problems in adolescents. These results also showed that girls perceived more emotional and behavioral problem as compared to boys after getting social rejection from peers. These results were discussed in cultural context in terms of implementation in community.Item Social skills, coping styles and emotional and behavioral problems in adolescents(UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY, 2015) Sana RehmanThe study aim was to explore the impact of Temperament on Self-concept of Adolescents. The study was carried out with the development of an indigenous scale of Self-concept and the adopted version of Early Adolescent Temperament Scale Revised (EATQ-R) & School Children Problem Scale. The total no of sample in this study was consisted of 402 participants, (49% boys and 50% girls) between the age range of 12-17 years. The phenomenology was explored and pilotstudy was conducted to assess the user friendliness of the scale. The main hypothesis of the current study was exploring the relationship between Temperament and Self-concept in adolescents. The factored analysis of self-concept scale indicates the two factors which was positive self-concept and negative self-concept. The Performa was given to the participants with demographics and the results indicate that the Class, Gender, Attention, Depression, and Frustration, were strong predictor of Emotional Behavioural Problem & Negative Self-concept in adolescents. Results were discussed in global term and collectivistic culture of Pakistanwhich indicates that Class, Gender, Attention, Depressive Mood, Frustration, Pleasure sensitivity were strong predictor of Negative self-concept.Item Social skills, coping styles, emotional and behavioural problems in adolescents(UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY, 2015) Sana HamidThis study was aimed to explore the relationship between the social skills, coping styles and emotional and behavioural problems in adolescents. A Mixed Method (Qualitative and Quantitative) research design was used to find out the relationship between these variables. The total sample of 300 participants was obtained with the help of Multistage Sampling Technique with the age ranges from 13-17 years.
