The principal is the person with a vision who provides purpose and significance to the work of the school and motivates and empowers the staff to move towards fulfillment of the vision. How her particular traits and characteristics have helped in translating the aims of the school into effective models of education? What are the ways in which she has forged all the processes to make the school be known as one of the better schools of the city by facilitating instructional practices that produce student learning. The study design was qualitative in nature and involved the analysis of personal interviews, documents and field observation. Through the use of interviews the participants, principal, students and teachers were given the opportunity to talk about the school's various processes. The triangulation employed pointed towards the fact that the principal's motivation and commitment to the task has helped her to take the best out of each resource available to her, whether human or otherwise. It, too, is more complicated than it seems at first, and often seems to be the hardest of the skills, even for native speakers of the language, since it involves not just a graphic representation of speech, but the development and presentation of thoughts in a structured way. It is a network of skills that can be taught, practiced, and mastered. The present research is a comparative study of two writing techniques "guided and free writing" in the Punjab School, Lahore. Free writing is a beneficial technique for students of English despite some of the obvious difficulties for learners of English. In the framework of a department for the studies of foreign languages, creative writing can create substantial benefits in three areas. It is an effective means for advanced language practice which is innovative, challenging, affective and learner - centered; secondly, it creates academic benefits in terms of text analysis and comprehension, both for content and form, and finally it provides a creative and emotional counterbalance to the rather cerebral nature of academic study. The researcher then proposes that by assessing two different techniques of teaching writing, will be helpful in diagnosing specific applicable technique, leading to targeted professional development to improve teachers' teaching practices and student's achievements in the area of writing. So the purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of free writing technique of fourth-grade students. Using a pretest posttest control group design, it was found that after four months the students (n=15) who were treated with free writing technique achieved similar scores than the students (n=15) who were treated with guided writing technique. It is concluded that the writing technique emphasizing free writing technique was not that effective in promoting and improving the writing capability of the studentsItem Behavioral management of the children of teaching and non-teaching parents(UMT, Lahore, 2005) Ms. Naima ZaimThis study was conducted to know the behavioral management of the children of teaching and non-teaching parents. And also to know the perception of teaching and non teaching parents about the behavioral management of their children. The study was particularly aimed at exploring the difficulties which teaching parents and non teaching parents face during dealing behavior problems. For this, teacher and doctor parents were respondents in the questionnaire. For collecting the data the researcher selected five schools and five hospitals. Ten parent teachers and ten doctor parents were received from the schools and hospitals. Entire data was analyzed in quantitative paradigm for getting better picture of the results. The analyses of the data revealed that all doctors and teacher parents equally give awareness of social evil to their children. All doctor and teacher parents try to remove the troubles of their children to change their non-social behavior and to remove the teacher of self-confidence and inferiority complex. All teacher and doctor parents dislike idleness in work and scold the children for not to study. Both are aware of negative effect of media on the behavior of their children.Item Parental guidance in the achievement of academic knowledge as perceived by O&A level students of Lahore(UMT, Lahore, 2005) Rizwana KhanThe children's education is considered a cornerstone to children's success in school. Parent involvement such as participating in school improvement effort and supporting children's learning at home contributes to student success in schooling, including children's positive attitudes toward schooling, and their enhanced literacy and learning abilities. This work overwhelmingly demonstrates that parent involvement in children's learning is positively related to achievement. Further, the research shows that die more intensively parents are involved in their children's learning; the more beneficial are the achievement effects. This holds true for all types of parent involvement in children's learning and for all types and ages of students. This work is divided into five main parts. The first one is the purpose of study along with definition of key terms and basic assumptions. Second part is the review of literature which tells us about the topic in detail. Next part deals with research methodology and analyzing data by using Bar graph & Pie charts. Then on the basis of the finding the research is being concluded.Item Corporal punishment as perceived by private primary school teachers of Gulberg, Lahore(UMT, Lahore, 2005) ASMA KHALIDStudent life is the most golden period of life but the condition of 'haves' and 'have-nots' are not equal due to the teaching strategies and using positive and negative aids for refining and returning of child's behaviour. Regarding Islamic point of view hitting children is permissible by quoting some Hadeeth, exhortation to physically discipline children if they don't pray after they have reached the age of puberty, which is being over interpreted. The early history of Corporal Punishment is unclear but the practice was certainly present in classical civilization and then Medieval Europe. From the Sixteenth century onwards, new trends were seen even now, in the modem world Corporal Punishment remains a common way of disciplining children. Opinions of Corporal punishment of children are varied. Culturally, people in the region generally believe a minimal amount of Corporal punishment for their own children is appropriate and necessary and thus such practice is tolerated by the society as a whole. Corporal punishment is both legal and violent because both are intentional, it cames a powerful message aside from the immediate efect intended. Corporal Punishment is deeply traumatic for young children. Having rejected the arguments that support the total abandonment of Corporal Punishment, some positive arguments for preserving the option of limited Corporal Punishment. a) Corporal punishment punishes only the guilty, b) Corporal Punishment in the scale ot punishment. 8 c) Being beaten is not good in itself but Corporal Punishment can be unjust in multitude ways. An important question whether Corporal Punishment is an unacceptably cruel or degrading form of punishment. The arguments raised by those who believe that Corporal Punishment leads to abuse, is degrading, is psychologically damaging, stems from and causes sexual deviance, teaches the wrong lesson, arises from and causes poor relationship between teachers (or parents) and children, does not deter. Educational experts argue that the long term costs of Corporal Ptmishment outweigh any short term benefit that might be gained by its application. Because Corporal Punishment or other degrading treatments can have some psychological effects on children. Effects on classroom discipline and instruction then on school dropouts. 'Violence against children within the family and in schools' a general discussion was held by OHCHIR in Sep 2001 and submission by NGOs coalition on child rights Pakistan. According to the report 57.3%' Corporal Punishment is necessary, 68.7% Corporal Punishment is important to maintain discipline, 40.7% Govt. Schools and 35.4% in private Schools Corporal Punishment is allowed, 43% respondents were not aware of any code or regulation about the use of Corporal Punishment. Every industrialized country in the world now prohibits school Corporal Punishment except, the US, Canada and one state in Australia. No Corporal Punishment in schools of Pakistan stated by Federal Education Minister Zobaida Jalal and NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani. Regarding the recommendations or alternatives to Corporal Punishment a) Positive reinforcement (b) Guidance and counseling (c) Alternative punisliment (d) Setting rules and expectations (e) Praise (f) Selective ignoring (g) Time - out (h) Consequences (i) Motivators (j) Reminders (k) Negotiation (1) Withdrawing Privileges (m) Holding the family meetings
