Item ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE OF LEADERSHIP STYLE (In context of Hazrat Umar’s Era)(UMT, Lahore, 2012) SAJJAD AHMADItem EXPLORING ASYMMETRIC CONFIGURATIONS OF KNOWLEDGE SPILLOVER FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL ECOSYSTEM IN FITNESS INDUSTRY(UMT, Lahore, 2017) Bilal AhmadKnowledge spillovers are considered an important factor in innovation and entrepreneurial activity in the context of geographic proximity and industrial parameters, leading to the popularity of knowledge spillover theory of entrepreneurship. However, the literature lacks the comprehension regarding the role of knowledge spillovers in promoting entrepreneurial ecosystem. These concepts have thoroughly been discussed in literature but separately and with little attention to their interrelationship. On one hand, the aforementioned theory focuses more on individual’s entrepreneurial prowess and lacks ecosystem perspective as well as the plausibility for service sector and developing economies, and on the other, all the existing models of entrepreneurial ecosystems have not considered knowledge spillovers a contributing factor. Hence, the purpose of this study is to explore the interrelationship of knowledge spillover and entrepreneurial ecosystem through the lens of fitness industry.Item Wholistic Management Education (WME): Contextualized Applicability of Transformative Learning in Management Education Discourse(UMT, Lahore, 2017) Naveed YazdaniThis thesis is a critical exploration of traditional management education discourse. It advocates imparting transformative business education leading to ‘whole person’ learning of business students. Traditional management education needs transformation because it is in crisis. The prestigious management education journal Academy of Management Learning & Education is leading a wave of scathing criticism on different aspects of business school education for the last decade or so. The most critiqued of these aspects include inability of traditional business school education to prepare students to face real world complexities. This is attributed to management education pedagogy’s over-reliance on science and rationality leading to short term profit focus and its being oblivious to larger issues of society, context, values and history.Item Antecedents and Consequences of Dynamic Supply Chain Design and Learning Capabilities(UMT, Lahore, 2018) Haris AslamThis study applies Dynamic Capabilities View (DCV) to the study of supply chain capabilities. While the literature in the area of dynamic capabilities (DCs) from supply chain perspective or Dynamic Supply Chain Capabilities (DSCCs) has grown steadily, few important questions have remained unanswered. Specifically, this study seeks to find out the antecedents and consequences of DSCCs. In this study, DSCCs are operationalized based on the framework presented by Teece (2007), as a second-order factor consisting of sensing, seizing, and transforming capabilities. Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) and Supply Chain Learning (SCL) are proposed as antecedents of DSCCs. The role of Environmental Dynamism (ED) in the process of capability formation is also considered. Finally, direct and indirect relationship between DSCCs and Supply Chain Performance (SCP) is considered. Indirect relationship is studied using the Operational Flexibility (OFL), Operational Improvement (OIM), and Operational Innovation (OIN) as mediating operational capabilities.Item Towards a Complexity Aware Management Approach in International Development Agencies(UMT, Lahore, 2019) Sami UllahThe United Nations and other International Development Agencies (IDAs) are trying hard to deal with colossal challenges being faced by the world on fronts of equality, health, prosperity, and sustainability. There is wide agreement that progress so far has remained short of the desired levels and much more efforts must be undertaken to achieve the aspired development agenda. Among multifarious efforts to identify obstacles in this regard, there are calls for revisiting the internal management system of development agencies, referred to as Result Based Management (RBM). RBM has been a widely used management approach in IDAs during the last three decades. In tandem with this popularity and appreciation for promoting ‘accountability’ and ‘result-focus’ in the development sector, the approach is under fierce criticism for its rigidity, linear thinking, and ineptness to deal with complexities and uncertainties in the development milieu.Item What hinders international SMEs from introducing own product brands in International market(s): A Study of Surgical Industry of Sialkot, Pakistan(UMT, Lahore, 2020) MUHAMMAD RIZWAN SALEEM SANDHUPurpose: This is a valid observation that SMEs have gained special attention at all levels both in developing and developed world for the reasons which are obvious, precisely and rightly SMEs are considered seedbed for entrepreneurship. Role of SMEs is so important that both ends of value chains, downstream and upstream, cannot function without their presence and contribution. In many cases SMEs are earning considerable export revenues for their countries and have potential to earn much more. Although SMEs, specially of developing country origin, have been working with international markets over the years yet they do not have product brands. SMEs produce quality which is accepted in international markets but their products sell under the brand name of others. The current study aimed to explore and explain that why do SMEs of developing country origin operate in international markets without product brands. Study design/methodology/approach: Keeping in view the aim mix method research design, Exploratory Sequential Design, has been used. The study was divided into two phases; in first phase interviews and focus group discussion were conducted in The Surgical Industry of Sialkot, Pakistan, industry consisting of SMEs and known for its export contribution, to explore factors as reasons of SMEs’ working without product brands and a scale was proposed whereas in second phase the scale was tested by collecting data from 100 firms of The Surgical Industry. The data collected through self-administered questionnaire having 82 items covering 22 factors was then analyzed using SmartPLS3. Out of 82 items of the scale 48 were found statistically significant supporting 19 factors in first order analysis.Item Inter-functional Coordination to Co-Create Value within Manufacturer Value Chain for Supply Chain Performance(UMT, Lahore, 2020) Umer MukhtarDuring the last couple of decades, it has been observed that supply base complexity, production complexity, hence, supply chain complexity has increased due to several reasons. Some of the reasons are 1) technology advancement; 2) demand for the fulfillment of customers’ ever-changing requirements and innovative products; 3) the strategic focus of firms to differentiate themselves from competitors; 4) the quest for winning the race in the dynamic hyper-competitive markets through supply chain performance (SCP). It has also been observed that increasing complexities impact the SCP negatively. Thus, complex supply base and manufacturing processes result in more challenging to achieve the desired objectives. These elevated challenges, in turn, result in poor performance of the whole of the supply chain (SC). To cope up with this challenging situation, the role of coordination at all levels, between firms’ value chains (inter-firm) and within single firm’s (intra-firm) value chain i.e., between functions, is evident. Current studies on SCP are focused on coordination between SC partnering firms at the Inter-firm level. While this study is one of the early ones that look at an individual firm’s value chain as a source of superior SCP, considering it a building block of whole SC Structure. Therefore, to comprehend that how and why the performance of SC could be improved by Inter-functional Coordination especially in today’s relatively highly complex higher complexity SC environment, this study proposes and fills the gap in the literature by examining Value Co-Creation (VCC) perspective as a phenomenon of inter-functional coordination within firm’s value chain.Item From Kick to Stitch: Exploring Trajectories of Converting Embodied Knowledge into Embedded Processes(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Muhammad ZaheerThis study has explored the knowledge acquisition and dissemination processes operative at two levels, workers and firms in the football industry of Sialkot, Pakistan. This study has focused on how these firms were able to adapt new means of technologically advanced processes of football production and how hand-stitched footballs are being produced. To develop a tentative indigenous theory of knowledge conversion process, qualitative research methodology was used, and the grounded theory approach was applied. Data were collected from 21 informants, including CEOs, managers and workers using semi-structured interviews. Purposive sampling was used to select the informants. This was a cross-sectional study with inductive approach.Item Organizational Resilience Factors and its Antecedents in Pakistan(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Talha Zubair Ahmad KhanOrganizational resilience is one of the contemporary areas of investigation for researchers and practitioners alike. Today, a greater challenge for organizations is associated with the dynamic nature of internal and external challenges that has pressure on organizations to incorporate a sense of resiliency not only at operational but also within its strategic orientation. The COVID-19 pandemic, economic slowdown, rapidly changing customer preferences, buying behaviors, rapid advances in digital technology and business models are few examples of environmental dynamism being faced by the organizations of 21st century. However, the situation is relatively in crisis for developing economies such as of Pakistan where majority of the business sector is represented by SMEs (Small Medium Enterprises). Due to limitations attributed to financial resources, access to funding, working capital, and slack resources, SMEs can no longer rely on the traditional methods in order to ensure survivability. Furthermore, there are no generally accepted principles for developing organizational resilience and research seems to be fragmented on concluding the required supportive mechanisms, structures and processes needed for sustaining organizational resilience.Item An Empirical Analysis of Strategic Marketing Contents’ Impact on Customer Brand Engagement of Generation Y and Generation Z(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Aqsa SiddiquiCustomer engagement has become a means for businesses to gain a sustainable competitive advantage; but achieving that competitive advantage through effective marketing strategies has become challenging, especially for Generation Y and Generation Z consumers, who show less loyalty to brands. Therefore, this study analyzed the influence of four relevant strategic contents commonly used to form marketing strategies: personalization, humanization, experiential, and emotional contents; on customer brand engagement (CBE). The role of social media presence (SMP) as a mediator of the relationship between strategic contents and CBE was also studied. The theoretical framework draws upon both social exchange theory and relationship marketing theory.Item UNLOCKING THE KNOWLEDGE HIDING AND PERFORMANCE RELATIONSHIP THE ROLES OF EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION, EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND POLITICAL SKILL(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Noor ul AinAs an emerging novelty, knowledge hiding has received considerate attention recently. The increasing interest of researchers and practitioners alike in this phenomenon has instigated the need to explore the effects of knowledge hiding in predicting employee well-being in the organizations. Extending this area, the current thesis examined the mechanism of how and when the targets of knowledge hiding struggle to maintain their job performance. Drawing on conservation of resource theory, this study investigated the relationship between knowledge hiding and job performance (in-role & extra-role) and also considered emotional exhaustion as a key underlying psychological mechanism between knowledge hiding and performance linkage. In addition, it investigated the moderating role of political skill and emotional intelligence in influencing this mediation.Item Exploring the Role of Firm’s Absorptive Capacity and Managerial Phronetic Resources in Management Innovation and Its Outcomes(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Umer AyubThe innovation ability of organizations holds importance as they look to compete for greater market share and better performance. It also offers firms opportunities to grow and expand. The challenge for innovative companies is not limited to focus only on offering new products or adopting new ways of production, rather it also requires attention to be provided for altering organizational processes, practices, and structures. Studies involving innovation no longer focus solely on its technical aspects, instead management innovation initiatives currently attract significant academic and practitioner interest as these offer an important source of sustainable advantage due to their context specific nature. Management innovation is thought to emerge from the use of knowledge management processes which harvest new knowledge and opportunities for utilization.Item Towards a Consilient Framework for Organizational Science(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Marriam MalikThe research seeks for a major change of direction in the Management research field. As proposed by Kuhn in 1970, academia and research needs unification of knowledge bearing dismissive trends the ‗isms‘. As Wilson stated in 1998 that there is a need for a unified and eclectic approach that will foster the consilience of knowledge across theoretical perspectives. This research hopes to provide the basis for an intellectual association between the research and praxis. Each research ideology consists of ―kernels of truth‖ therefore it is important to maximally utilize them to understand the bigger picture of reality. This very logic was put forward by Wilson in 1988 as ―consilience‖, who suggested that there exist coherency and compatibility in the knowledge that is obtained via different means. The researcher acted as a critical theorist, highlighting the historicity that lead to the development of ―normal science‖, the researcher challenged the guiding assumptions as well.Item DEVELOPMENT OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL EMPLOYER BRAND AND ITS IMPACT ON GENERATION Y UNDER THE APPROACH OF INTERNAL MARKETING (IM)(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Shahzad AliManaging various generations under one roof is becoming challenging when it comes to strategizing their attraction and retention. One of the promising solutions has been claimed to be the employer brand. This research work emphasizes identifying and grouping various essential factors of employer brand, including factors of organizational attractiveness and HR professional’s competencies dimension. It also includes the empirical investigation of the impact of internal and external employer brand on retention and attraction of employees belonging to various generations and to see if the internal marketing tool positively moderates this relation.Item Role of Multi-Actors and Digital Service Systems for Value Co Creation Process(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Farhan Azmat MirPurpose: Value co-creation is proving to be a game changing phenomenon for modern firms, yet many organizations are still following the traditional approach to value creation. A transition is required to actively involve key stakeholders in the process of generating overall value and creating memorable experiences. Research aims to understand how value co-creation takes place in complex service systems that comprise interactions between multiple human actors and digital service systems. Answering the question on how value is co-created, aims at providing clues to practitioners on how value co-creation initiatives could be managed within service systems. Exploration of the value co-creation process will also provide insights on required roles of human and digital service systems for sustainable value outcomes.Item Identification and Comparative Analysis of Marketing Capabilities in Goods Dominant and Value Co-Creation Perspective(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Mobeen ul HaqValue co-creation (VCC) has been promulgated as a concept that seeks to challenge the traditional approach to value creation. The literature proposes that co-creation is a phenomena that requires interaction and collaboration of multiple stake holders. Value is co created when all participating actors derive value from their interactions. This aspect of interaction challenges the traditional aspect of value creation, where value was previously considered to be embedded in the product and was an outcome of organizational value chain activities.Item The impact of Spiritual Leadership on Triple Bottom Line outcomes the role of workplace spirituality and meaningful engagement(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Usman Riaz MirThis study aims to empirically test an integrated framework of workplace spirituality to predict triple bottom line outcomes. In doing so, personal spiritual leadership is taken as a fundamental facilitator to cultivating a feeling of workplace spirituality. Moreover, employees’ meaningful engagement in response to experiencing spirituality in the organization helps them improve performance across the triple bottom line. Taken together, the current study hypothesized the impact of personal spiritual leadership on triple bottom line outcomes through serial mediation of workplace spirituality and meaningful engagement. This study draws from the positivist paradigm for finding the answers to research questions. In line with philosophical approaches, this research used a quantitative research method with deductive logic.Item CHALLENGES OF ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY TO GLOBAL VALUE CHAINS THE ROLE OF GOVERNANCE AND INSTITUTIONS IN PAKISTAN(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Ali AsgharThe literature on the phenomenon of economic sustainability of the global value chains (GVCs) primarily emphasizes on the internal factors like the GVCs governance and upgrading. Simultaneously, the external factors like the local governance and the institutions got little attention from the researchers and academicians. It is, therefore, this study explores the role of external factors in the economic sustainability of the GVCs using the agency theory– a lens that assumes the industry, being the source of public revenue, as the principal; and the government institutions, being the custodian of public revenue and interest, as the agents. A qualitative research design using transcendental phenomenological analysis is adopted to explore the proposed phenomena. Face-to-face in-depth interviews of 34 participants (23 export managers and 11 civil servants) are conducted using an interview guide. NVivo software facilitates data management, bracketing, horizonalization, coding, thematic analysis, and cluster analysis.Item When and how Eldercare Burden does affect Employee’s Job Burnout The Roles of Psychological Capital and Employee’s Job Stress(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Abdul GhaffarDrawing from the theoretical lens of COR theory, this study aimed at investigating the relationship between employees’ experience of eldercare burden and their job burnout. While explaining this relationship, this study also examines the mediating role of job stress and moderating role of psychological capital in this process. The data was collected from 340 employees working in hospitals and banks in Pakistan by employing a time-lag research design. Findings suggest that an important reason why employees’ experience of eldercare burden in their homes spillover to their workplace is that they feel overburdened by these demands. And this stress is translated into job burnout after multiple episodes of eldercare burden demands. The results of this study further suggest that this relationship is weaker for employees who can draw from their resources of psychological capital. In the last section, the theoretical implications, as well as strengths and limitations of this study, are explainedItem IMPACT OF FINTECH MERGER AND ACQUISITION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF ACQUIRER BANKS AN EVIDENCE FROM DEVELOPED COUNTRIES(UMT, Lahore, 2023) Quratulain AkhtarFintech startups symbolize a radical transformation in the financial industry that provides technology-based financial services. These newly formed business organizations use digital technologies such as computers, the internet, mobile, and data to innovate and facilitate. By ramping up the transaction speed, transparency, and reaching out to the areas that are unserved by the traditional banking sector, fintech start-ups refashion the customer experience of financial services, thus creating tough competition with formal incumbents such as banks. Banks are working on various strategies to deal with these new competitors, one of which is to buy them. So, this study focuses on mergers and acquisitions (M&As) between banks and fintech and the impact on the performance of the acquirers in the period 2010-2020. The paired sample t-test and GMM analysis indicate a significant positive impact of fintech and bank M&As on the accounting performance (return on assets), liquidity, financial leverage, asset quality, and capital adequacy of banks but a negative impact on the market performance of banks in the long run
