Item The impact of academic advisor’s leadership styles on student retention in higher education(UMT.Lahore, 2018) Amina AkbarThis quantitative study explored the leadership styles of advisors for students to analyze which common style had more impact on student’s retention. The purpose of this study was to find out the dominant types of leadership styles of advisors in higher education and to identify the leadership styles of advisor’s in both public and private universities of Lahore. This study also have the purpose that either the leaderships styles of advisors is based upon demographic factors such as age or gender, or not. This quantitative study also finds out the impact of advisor’s leadership style on students satisfactions in higher education. This is a quantitative research and we used survey research design for this study. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) 5x was used to collect data on the advisors’ leadership styles from the perspectives of retained students at different public and private universities of Lahore, and to compare the frequent style from both perspectives. The reliability of this instrument was checked by the experts of department of education of UMT. Population of the sample constituted of students, and their advisors of public and private universities of Lahore district. Convenience sampling technique was used to collect the data. Sample of the study were (n=200) university students and (n=50) advisors. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data. The Pearson correlation was used to test the null hypothesis. Results indicated that statistically significant positive relationship existed between transformational and transactional leadership. Further t-test was used to find out the difference in leadership styles of advisors in private and public universities. It was found that that there is no significant difference of leadership style of advisors in public and private universities of district Lahore. Results showed that there was no significant effects of age and gender on leadership styles and behavior of leadership of advisors on students’ retention. Findings of the study established that overall students are more satisfied from their advisors. Further, Pearson correlation test and Simple Linear Regression was used to find out the levels of both students and advisors styles of leadership satisfaction and leadership behavior. Results of the research revealed that there was a significant positive relationship of leadership style and leadership behavior of advisor’s and of student’s satisfaction in higher education which means that there is relationship of advisors leadership style of students’ satisfaction in higher education.
