Item Occupational health and safety issues in textile industry of lahore, pakistan(UMT, Lhr, 2019) HUMERA SHABIROccupational hazards are considered as the 10th leading and prominent cause of illnesses amongst all global hazards. Materials, chemicals, machinery and tools are responsible for causing hazards in a workplace. Textile sector as the biggest manufacturing sector in Pakistan is suffering from poor and unsafe working conditions. Textile workers are facing many health problems, i.e., musculoskeletal disorders, visual problems, respiratory diseases, hearing loss, gastrointestinal illnesses, diabetes and hypertension. A survey was conducted in a textile industry located in Lahore, Pakistan. The main survey encompasses questionnaire and few measurements. Different factors including age group, educational level, section of the mill and working duration were analyzed by bivariate and multiple regression analysis performed in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings suggested the prevalence of five main types of diseases including musculoskeletal disorders, visual problems, gastrointestinal illnesses, Byssinosis and hearing. Prevalence of musculoskeletal disorder was highest (73%) and hearing disorder was lowest (24.5). It was found that major contributing predictors are age group, lower education level, section of mill and working duration. The minute improvements in working environment and tool projects will certainly have significant betterment in workers ' health. Textile workers are likely to have long-term awareness programs, constant inspiration and health teaching to avoid and address these issues sooner.
