Item Smart governance for urban transformation:(UMT Lahore, 2024) ABDULLAH M. MEHDI ALI; M. IBRAHIM; JUNAID YOUSAFCities around the world are grappling with the challenges brought by rapid urbanization and growing populations. Efficient urban governance and smart city initiatives have become essential tools to navigate these complexities. ISO standards, specifically ISO 37120 and ISO 19152, provide crucial frameworks that can help cities enhance governance, ensure transparency, and promote sustainable development. This thesis focuses on how these ISO standards can be integrated into the governance and practices of Lahore, Pakistan, to transform it into a smarter, more sustainable city. Lahore has made strides in digital governance and traffic management. However, several challenges hinder the city's progress. These include inconsistent data management, limited technical capacity, fragmented governance, and insufficient citizen engagement. This research seeks to uncover these challenges and offer practical recommendations to strengthen smart governance in Lahore. The study’s objectives are to evaluate the current smart city initiatives in Lahore, align them with ISO standards, and propose actionable guidelines for improved urban management. By delving into these issues, this thesis provides insights into bolstering institutional capacity, fostering public-private partnerships, adopting global standards, implementing smart traffic systems, and engaging the community. The ultimate goal is to help Lahore continuously evolve into a sustainable, smart city where public participation and global compliance enhance the quality of life for its residents.
