Item Relationship between the self-esteem and academic achievement of children with hearing impairment(UMT Lahore, 2022) Ayesha AnwarThe purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between self-esteem and academic achievement of children with hearing impairments. Children with hearing impairments achievement is lower in the academic arena compared to hearing children or even children with visual or physical impairments. The study finds out to whether low self-esteem was linked to low academic achievement of children with hearing impairment. Self-esteem has for some time been viewed as a fundamental part of good emotional and mental health. It is a generally discussed idea both in social and psychological research. It describes one‘s own worth towards his/ her belonging. The study was primarily correlational study and its design was quantitative. All teachers (teaching hearing impaired children) employed in Govt. special education Schools of Punjab were the population of study. The researcher found that there are 294 institutes, 2406 teachers in special education department and 598 teachers in the school which were teaching the children with HI. Sample of study was selected using convenient sampling. Sample of the present study comprised of 150 special education teachers who have experience of teaching hearing impaired children in special education schools. To examine the teachers‘ perceived knowledge about relationship of self-esteem and academic achievement of children with hearing impairment, the researcher has developed a questionnaire. Questionnaire was divided into two sections; one was the relationship between self-esteem and academic achievement of children with hearing impairment and second part was, ways to improve the self-esteem. Research design was quantitative and convenient sampling techniques was used. It is resulted that there is strong relationship between academic achievement and self-esteem of children with hearing. All the ways described in the tool agreed by teachers that improve the self-esteem of children with hearing impairment. The reason behind the relationship between self-esteem and academic achievement of children with hearing impairment was that if the self-esteem of children is positive than the child will be more confident to achieve the better scores for his academic achievement and if the self-esteem of the child is low than it becomes very difficult to achieve good scores. It is recommended by the researcher that management should do work and arrange activities to improve the self-esteem of children to get better results in their academics.
