Item "Impact of safety participation on workplace accidents:(UMT Lahore, 2025) Arzoo JamalThe construction industry in Pakistan faces a significantly higher rate of occupational accidents compared to other sectors, posing serious threats to both worker safety and project efficiency. This study explores the impact of safety participation on workplace accidents, with a specific focus on the mediating roles of safety knowledge, safety compliance, and safety climate. Drawing on survey data collected from workers across various construction sites in Punjab, Pakistan, the research investigates how these variables interact to influence safety outcomes. Using a cross-sectional design and statistical analyses, the study finds that safety participation does not directly reduce workplace accidents. Instead, its influence is exerted indirectly through improvements in safety knowledge, safety compliance, and safety climate. Notably, safety compliance emerges as a critical factor in minimizing accidents, while safety knowledge and climate enhance compliance and foster safer behavior. The results contribute to the theoretical understanding of workplace safety by validating the mediated relationship between safety participation and accident reduction. Practical implications include the need for organizations to invest in training, communication, and safety culture initiatives to strengthen compliance and safety climate. Despite certain limitations such as the use of self-reported data and a cross-sectional approach, the study provides a foundation for future longitudinal and multi-source research aimed at improving safety performance in high-risk industries.
