Item Drivers of supply chain strategies:(UMT Lahore, 2013) Sheikh Wajid RahmanThe aim of the current study is to empirically investigate the relationship between product nature discussed in marketing literature and supply chain strategy. A cross-sectional survey based approach and snowballing technique was used to collect data for the study, total 79 responses were gathered through this effort .Data were collected from the managers working in the functional areas of marketing and supply chain management. Canonical correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between product types and supply chain strategy. Regression analysis was used to explore the directionality between product types and supply chain strategy. Results indicate that efficient supply chain strategy has positive association with for convenience goods; responsive supply chain strategy has positive relationship with specialty goods. However, shopping goods require combination of both the strategies. The findings of the study have implications for understanding the drivers of supply chain strategy and provide a broader understanding of the influence of product nature on the choice of supply chain strategy.Item Exploration of failure factors of projects in pakistan.(UMT Lahore, 2015) Syed Abbas Raza. The factors are the set of circumstances, facts or influences which contribute to the result. These are the influential forces which either facilitate or obstruct the project success but do not form the basis of the project. The objective is to study the failure factors of project in Pakistan. Scope, time, cost and the risk are the main constraints, needed to be managed optimally, for avoiding project failure. The specific Factors, pertaining to these constraints and specifically contributing towards failure of the projects are deduced through the procedure of designing questionnaire and getting survey through Cement and Sugar industries of Pakistan. The data collected is processed through SPSS 18, and failure factors of projects are extracted through Rotated component Matrix. The grouping of variables is done based upon their loadings. The most appropriate Titles of the factors is established, which represent the corresponding and compatible variables.15 Nos. of factors, causing failure of projects, have been extracted from 40 variables, selected for the study through survey.Item To explore the health information seeking behavior (hisb) and health care services utilization behavior (hcsub) of internally displaced population (idps) residing in lahore(UMT Lahore, 2017) Farah ZafarThe majority of internally displaced persons (IDPs) spend their greater time in different camps before their arrangements residing in host country. Resource limitations, mental disturbance and stress of leaving their own residence lead to a variety acute communicable and non communicable disease upon their settlement. Many of internally displaced migrants have little awareness about their health. This thesis included a research in which different questionnaires were filled with participants to explore their health seeking behavior and utilization of their health services. A total number of 53 participants were there to filled questionnaires. Filled questionnaires revealed that majority of internally displaced persons do not have regular access of their health services and proper medication for their diseases. The other major issues for IDPs were language and communication barrier at all stages for their health care access. Different cultural beliefs about health seeking behavior and health care access directly affected internally displaced person level of care. These all types of barrier delayed the IDPs health in long term manner. This research study suggests overcoming the delay in health care services access and also facilitating the internally displaced person for existing services.Item A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of master in science in project management at school of professional advancement(UMT Lahore, 2017) Mr. MUHAMMAD FAHEEMThe existing transport infrastructure in Pakistan needs to be enhanced and present government is very keen in doing so. The present Punjab Government is developing much transport infrastructure projects in Punjab and especially in Lahore. At the same time they are facing delays during construction. There are many causes which are affecting transport infrastructure development projects. Time delays mean extra capital / budget to be put in. Out of many causes, 7 causes which are very critical have been identified in this thesis. These are undue interference of owner at any stage of project, mistakes and discrepancies during drafting of contract documents, lack of subcontractor’s skills, transportation delays due to strike, frequent design changes during execution phase, non-utilization of professional construction management personnel and theft of material on site. From SPSS, the rotated component matrix has shown 2 components / factors. The first 3 causes are under factor 1 and last 4 causes are under factor 2. It is pertinent to mention that first 3 causes relates to Initiation phase of typical Project Life Cycle and last 4 causes relates to Execution phase. The two delay factors identified during thesis are Initiation Delays and Execution Delays. As these two Project Life Cycle Phases are very important and ultimately delays in these two phases may affect the last phase i.e. Project Closure Phase. This study is exploratory in nature with multistage stratified sampling technique has been usedItem Status of prevalence of communicable disease by screening of hepatitis b, hepatitis c and tb among internally displaced population in khan colony lahore(UMT Lahore, 2017) Murtaza Haider JaferiThe migration crisis has emerged as a new agenda to table the international dialogues after Syria and Myanmar war and violence in recent decade. In 2015 the global migration crisis hit the toll of over 40 million people displaced as a result of wars and violence. The recent development of global interest in migration phenomena is influenced by main push factors of economic or social stability for population movement across the international border or within the international boundary. There are estimated 28 million people globally that are called internally displaced Persons (IDPs) and they moved within the country of origin. The burden of disease due to population movement may exert pressure on available resources of the host community that in turn can pose significant threat to the scarcity of healthcare services. In Pakistan the IDPs crisis originated at a larger scale after military operation against terrorist groups in 2009. A large number of IDPs moved from conflict affected zone of Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa to settled urban areas of Pakistan including Lahore. This study has assessed the proportion of burden of communicable disease caused by influx of migratory population within the urban area in Lahore. The study to assess the burden of communicable diseases is conducted in Khan Colony, Lahore where IDP community is residing. The study is cross sectional prospective survey conducted by collection of data through semi structured questionnaire and taking blood samples for detection of sero-positivity of anti bodies for detection of Hepatitis B virus (HBV), Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and sputum samples for detection of tuberculosis (TB). The sampling technique used for this study is non random convenient sampling with sample size of 53 participants. The author finds that (22.6%) of the IDP population out of total sample of 53 participants is infected with anti HCV virus. The large majority of the studied population comprised of female (73.6%) participants. There is another coincidence observed in the prevalence rate of HCV that out of iv total infected population about (75%) population consisted of female. The IDP population residing in Khan Colony, Lahore is mainly originated from Peshawar (42%) and Mardan (34%) divisions of Khyber Pakhtun Khwa Province. The author found that the studied population is deprived of standardized healthcare facilities within their community and the community is prone to bear the burden of epidemic of communicable disease due to poverty with unemployment (79%) and over crowdedness (83%) sharing of room with more than three persons. The studied population is observed to be living in low socio-economic conditions as evidenced from population living in mud houses (15%), unemployment (89.4%) and high illiteracy (68%) rate. The most important recommendation from this study is to initiate the aggressive measures to interrupt HCV infection by implementation of social mobilization methods for better awareness of the community.Item Exploring the risk factor associated with pre-engineered building projects in lahore.(UMT Lahore, 2017) Rizwan KhurramThe construction industry is more exposed to risk than other industry. If the risk is not handled properly it may causes the poor performance on the industry. Building projects scales are large in nature and they involved large amount of investment. Wastage of any resource influence is high loss in project. All the losses are associated with risk factors. In Pakistan, only few researches have been done so far in this area. Thus this study needs focus of risk management in field of construction projects. From study we conclude that financial issue, skillful workers, shortage and inaccurate design are significant risk factors affecting the projects. Contractors are responsible for risk linked with machinery, material and quality related issues. While clients is responsible for the risk associated with scope of work. Study concludes that good coordination and communication between stakeholders and proper drawings works are key factors to control the project.Item Exploring the factors associated with project complexity in transport infrastructure development projects(UMT Lahore, 2017) Tahir Saeed MaqboolEnormous Transport Infrastructure Development Projects with expanding intricacies are being established at an increasing ratio in the developing countries. Project management is becoming complicated because of its bulkier Projects in term of duration and cost but also due to large number of stakeholders involved. In this respect, Project management is becoming increasing complex not only because of Projects are becoming larger in term of duration and cost but also due to large number of stakeholders involved. The purpose of this research is to identify the factors associated with project complexity in Transport Infrastructure development projects. This research is exploratory and employed quantitative paradigm to answer the research question. Findings of this research show that five factors are associated with project complexity in Transport Infrastructure Development Projects which are: Ambiguity in initial phases, Interdependence among process, Context, Diversity in background and large size. The research limitation is that this research employed the quantitative research strategy. This strategy yield data with greater latitude but not in profundity. Therefore, this research did not implement in-depth exploratory techniques associated with qualitative research paradigm. Furthermore, the cross-section of the respondents represent only Transport Infrastructure Development Projects, the sample does not cover all the possible sectors which could have complex projects (Engineering, IT, Supply chain etc.…). However, further investigation is required for other complex sectors.Item Impact of working conditions on job satisfaction of employees in paint industry in lahore(2018) Hafiz Muhammad Atif IlyasPaint industry is one of the core industries of Pakistan which is playing its pivotal role in the economic growth of the country. The key purpose of this study was to evaluate the reasons which are liable for manipulating the job satisfaction of employees in the pain industry. In this study, the researcher evaluated the relationship among various factors associated with job satisfaction of the employees. For instance, the relationship between salary and job satisfaction; working environment and job satisfaction; security of job and job satisfaction; and supervisory support and job satisfaction of employees working in paint industry in Lahore. In this study, convenience sampling was taken from four major paint industries of Pakistan which included AKZONOBEL, KANSAI, NIPPON and BERGER. Data was collected form 150 respondents from the above mentioned industries and different tests were applied for the reliability and validity of the instrument. Afterwards, all necessary assumptions were checked before applying multiple regression analysis. Multiple regression analysis was applied to evaluate the strength of relationship among different factors. The results of this study depicted that working environment and compensation/ salary have significant impact on the job satisfaction of employees working in paint industry. Whereas, the results also presented that security of job and supervisory support have no significant influence on the satisfaction of employees in the paint industry. Therefore, it is recommended that paint industry should concentrate on the better working environment and compensation structure of their employees because paint industry has very hard working environment with respect to its operations. The facilitation in the working environment will undeniably enhance the level of satisfaction of the employees. In the same way, good salary and additional financial benefits will attract the employees, amplify their satisfaction and decline the turnout, which ultimately grounds the financial growth of industry.Item Exploring the glass ceiling factors for females in the it industry of pakistan(UMT Lahore, 2018) Fatima IdreesDespite making up 48% of the population, women in Pakistan represent only 24% of the workforce according to World Bank’s report of 2014. The number of females in the top management is even lower forming only 3% of the participation. This lack of participation in the upper tiers is hindered by certain barriers. The elusive barriers that obstruct the career growth of women to the top of the organizational hierarchy are symbolized by the term coined as “glass ceiling”. This study explores the factors that constitute this glass ceiling for females in Pakistan IT industry. A sample of 50 females working in IT sector from various cities of Pakistan were collected using purposive sampling. Focus group discussion was conducted to gain insights that were used to form questions for getting data the respondents in the form of a questionnaire survey. In addition, 3 male CEOs were also interviewed for cross checking of the gathered data. Results are discussed under three categories i.e. the individual/personal, cultural and organizational issues acting as deterrents for females’ professional advancement in the IT sector. The most commonly identified barrier being the mindset of the male members of the society that impedes females from progressing smoothly. Discrimination in the organization and lack of opportunities follow as the second most common; whereas lack of confidence and emotional stability on part of the female form the personal barriers.Item Impact of agricultural mechanization development project on yield of major crops in punjab, pakistan(UMT Lahore, 2018) Muhammad Nadeem AshrafPakistan is an agriculture based economy. The agriculture precinct plays a pivotal part in the development of economy and core source to boost the economic growth of Pakistan. Despite its importance, per acre yield of agricultural crops is very low as compared to global bench mark. Majority of the farmers are small with land holding less than 5 hectares which is just a subsistence level farming actually. The shifting of farmers from subsistence to commercial level farming can only be accomplished through diffusion of modern, efficient and cost effectual technology in the farming system. Government of the Punjab has formulated a policy that focuses on the improvement of rustic community which is mainly reliant on agriculture. In this perspective “Agriculture Mechanization Development project” was implemented in all districts of Punjab to support the small and marginal farmers by provision of agricultural implements on 50 percent subsidized rates. The current study was conducted for the impact assessment of farm implements given to the farmers in the mechanization project. The Punjab province was divided in three zones on the basis of agro-climatic conditions i.e. upper Punjab (rain fed areas) central Punjab (mixed cropping areas) and southern Punjab (wheat and cotton areas). Total of six districts, comprising of maximum beneficiaries were selected (two from each zone). Face to face structured interviews were conducted to get primary data from project beneficiaries (n=210). Paired t-test and regression analysis were applied for comparative analysis of major crops’ yield prior to and after the mechanization scheme. The data depicted that 87.67% respondents were satisfied form the scheme. Analysis showed that farming practices of the respondents were improved by timelines of farm operations and improved efficiency by the use of implements provided in the scheme which ultimately increased the farm production. The use of agricultural implements had also helped the farmers to overcome their labor constraints at peak seasons. The results of the study revealed that there was a significant increase on the yield of all major crops which means the agricultural mechanization development project had a positive impact on the yield of all crops being cultivated in Punjab province. The mean increase in yield of sugarcane crop was found maximum i.e. 30.769 mounds per acre, followed by maize 4.056 mounds and cotton 3.014 mounds per acre. Whereas mean increase in wheat and rice crops’ yield were 2.181 mounds and 2.026 mounds per acre respectively. It is suggested that agricultural mechanization and such other programs can be considered as efficient tool to fight against poverty, improve socio-economic level and income creating activities among rural communities. By considering the existing paradoxical economic position of the country as well as internal and external confronts, reliance on agriculture sector will further augment to advance the pace of national development. Therefore instant action is required to accelerate productivity and profitability of this segment both in horizontal and vertical ways. There is dire need of mapping of crop zones specific technologies in the province along with development of indigenous low cost agricultural machines, bringing research &development institutes under one umbrella by strengthening research linkages and encouraging reverse engineering of imported machines to enhance poor farmers’ access to the technology. Govt. of Punjab should chalk out comprehensive agricultural mechanization policy to ensure crop specific technology that should be technically feasible, economically viable and socially acceptable to promote its sustainability for the farming community of the province.Item “Exploring the contributing factors in train accidents in pakistan ii railways:(UMT Lahore, 2018) MR. Project execution and accomplishment majorly depend on the leadership competencies. The dynamics of leadership define the influence of a leader i.e. project manager in lead on his team to complete any type of project and make it a success. The objective of the study is to investigate the influence of project managers’ leadership competencies in light of theory explaining “The Competency School of Leadership” coupled with specific project type on project success outcomes for transport infrastructure projects. A structured questionnaire-based survey was conducted to collect data using purposive sampling from individuals that are currently or have been involved in recently completed projects in transport infrastructure development of Lahore. A total of 152 useful responses were returned. Findings obtained using moderated regression analysis using Andrew Hayes ‘process’ technique suggest that leadership competence of project managers is insignificant for successful completion of the projects under a particular project type. Results suggest that the project managers in leadership position when effectively and efficiently utilize their competencies of intellectual strength, managerial procedures and emotional balance for successful actualization of transport infrastructure projects. Moreover, it has been found that project managers in these projects exhibit efficacious leadership competencies that are substantial without regard to any project type in certain for their successful completion.Item Exploring the challenges faced by it companies of pakistan and their impact on software exports(UMT Lahore, 2019) Atif RehmanLast decade has seen extravagant increase in exports of Pakistan’s IT industry which lead the country’s economy to progress as well.
