Abstract
The researchers intended to investigate the effects of hearing loss on self-esteem of children with hearing impairment. The population of the study was children with hearing impairment studying in grade 9 to 12 in Lahore city. The primary purpose of the study was to take the information on hearing loss on self-esteem of children with hearing impairment. The secondary purpose of this study was to find out the factors affecting self-esteem of children with hearing impairment. The researchers collected date with the help of Rosenberg self-esteem scale as this scale is considered a standard in measuring self-esteem. Forty five students with hearing impairment studying in grade 9-12 were selected through purposive sampling. The data were tabulated and analyzed by the help of SPSS. The analysis showed significant difference in the self-esteem of postnatal and prenatal hearing loss, using sign language, and oral language. It was concluded that the majority of the student with the hearing impairment had an average level of self-esteem on the Rosenberg self-esteem scale.
