Abstract
This research aims to analyze the thematic concerns in the short story collection of Daniyal Mueenuddin In other rooms, other wonders by using the Marxist framework to address the issues of class struggle. The anthology consists of eight short stories that are interlinked to each other. The central character of the anthology is the rich old landlord “K K Haoruni” who is a domineering personality and rules over the middle class. The story collection highly depicts the class struggle in a typical Pakistani society where Mueenuddin shows the crude and ill-fitted nature of the Elite class system. Another main concern of this anthology is based on the subjugation and marginalized female characters who suffer in a patriarchal society by pleasing men to gain status. Female sexuality is a major concern in these stories and they also depict class struggle and the cycle of exploitation within a patriarchal society. By using the Marxist theory, the characters and stories would be analyzed from a broader perspective to understand the existing issues of society through Mueenuddin’s short stories where class struggle, patriarchy and female marginalization will remain the major concerns. Moreover, the Marxist-feminist perspective would be used to explore the female sexuality and the mistreatment of female characters existing in the anthology.
