Abstract
Process safety is a crucial part of process industries. Organizational Culture Influences
Safety Culture in Process Safety Management Program (PSM).Worldwide Work-related
diseases and injuries were responsible for the deaths of 1.9 million people in 2016,
according to the first joint estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO) and
International Labor Organization (ILO)(17 September 2021 Joint News Release Geneva).
A fatality incident experienced by me inspired me to work for the safety of employees
working in a process industry. The research was conducted to establish the role of
organizational culture in formation of safety culture in process industry. Data collected
through interviews of 5 employees working in different departments of Urea fertilizer
manufacturing industry in Pakistan, which has adopted Dupont PSM (Process safety
management program) from last 12 years. Qualitative research method and Thematic
Analysis was employed to analyses the data. The finding of the data analysis indicated
that the influence of organizational culture over safety culture. The culturally based
elements of PSM purely defined with respect to the human behavior. Behavioral safety is
one of the most important aspects of the process industry. Through study of organizational
culture and safety culture, the researcher became able to suggest the interventions to
change the behaviors of employees in their own favor as well as in the organizations favor
by improving the organizational culture. Behavior based training curriculum prepared to
help the employees to understand and reforming their behaviors.
