dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the present research was to explore the etiology and psychosocial basis of violent crimes that provoke women to toward these heinous crimes. To meet the objective, the researcher adopted the qualitative research method for conducting the present study. Three types of research population selected for present research which was included imprisoned women (who had committed violent crimes), forensic experts on the crime scene, and women investigation officers of Punjab Police. Data was collected by face-to-face in-depth interviews of the participants (n=19). The interviews were transcribed and analyzed by following the thematic analysis. On the basis of thematicanalysis, eight major themes were developed. The results of the analysis showed most frequent and major reasons of violent crime are constraining and hurdles in the family and marital life dissatisfaction, pressure of intimate relations, household environment, peer group, jealousy, revenge, distrust, extramarital relation, domestic violence, protection of dear ones, self-defense, poor judicial system, distrust of legal institutions, injustice, lenient treatment of women than men in legal institutions and negative role of media. It is suggested that individual, household, institutional level awareness and work is needed for eliminating the violent crime among women.en_US
