dc.description.abstractThe aim of this research was to find out what motivates people to engage in volunteer activities. To investigate motives behind volunteerism this research hypothesized that female would score higher than males on motivational factors of volunteering, age would have a significant positive correlation with six motivation factors of volunteering and education would have a significant positive correlation with six motivation factors of volunteering. Survey method was used in this research. Snow ball sampling and convenience sampling was used to collect the sample comprised of 120 respondents which were involved in volunteer activities and were from different organizations and organizations, clubs or societies in universities in Lahore, Pakistan. There were 64 were male and 56 were female. The Volunteer Function Inventory (VFI) was used to find out motivational factors of volunteering. The VFI was developed by Clary et al. (1998). Obtained data was statistically analyzed by independent sample T-test to find out gender difference and correlation method to find out the relation of age and education with six motivational factors of VFI. The findings showed that there is no gender differences were found at six motivational factors. The age has significant positive relation with Value. No statistically significant relationship exists between age and other subscales of VFI. Education is positively correlated with Value and Enhancement however, the relationship between education and other subscales of VFI is not found. Whereas it has also been found that overall, the main motives behind volunteer activities were understanding, value and enhancement.en_US
