It is given for many academic and non academic purposes. It is in practice since long along with a debate regarding its benefits, reasonability and its effects on the academic achievement of the learner. Educators, psychologists, parents and students have their reservations and suggestions in terms of the better use of this academic technique. Student is expected by the teacher to spend more time on his studies which is not possible due to the limited hours of the school. Homework is thus given to keep him focused on his studies even when not at school. It also serves the purpose to make him understand that study is not limited to the school and that home environment can also be beneficial in terms of studies (Horowitz, 2005; McPherson, 2005), and thus school hours can be extended this way.en_US
