dc.description.abstracthe impact of development induced displacement has been studied for three villages sher da-mayal , khurd and kang gotta syeda by taking a sample size of 15. Education and health facilities have been identified as major persuading factors compelling people to displace from the place of origin whereas psychological, cultural and traditional practices are the factors that contribute most towards keeping people from displacing to other areas. Educated and skilled people have relatively better opportunities to settle down in urban, sub-urban areas and cities and they seem to be satisfied with their earnings and work. Uneducated people running small businesses such as grocery shops, tuck shop, general stores etc after displacement also consider themselves well off and are satisfied at the place where they were displaced. The benefits of the displacement have largely been enjoyed by the young and energetic people whereas the older people seemed to be unhappy due to fond memories and a nostalgic element with their native homes.
