Abstract
In the modern IT world, more and more IT projects are done by global teams. The primary
aim of these companies is reduced cost. While offshore development has many benefits
e.g. reduced cost, talented resources, standardized processes etc. it also includes new
challenges e.g. communication, coordination, trust, cultural and knowledge transfer issues.
These challenges not only affect the development process but also affect the overall project
execution and hence leading to unwanted delays.
Companies have been focusing on the major challenges in general. However there has been
little effort put to collect and document whether different types of offshore models
encounter similar types of challenges. Using the systematic literature review approach and
applying customized search criteria based on the research questions, this thesis evaluates
the challenges faced in each type of offshore development.
As a result, this thesis has identified that each type of offshore development model faces
its own challenges and its framework is different from the other. Also through synthesis, it
is observed that there is variation between the delay factors for each offshore development
model.
