In this report there is a proposed solution of how can a crack be detected by image processing. Cracks on the external sides of the metal are one of the most initial signs of the degradation of the surface, the presence of these cracks can be led to structure failure. So, these cracks need to detected at time. Physical examination of the external surface of metal is the conventional technique to detect the cracks. As, manual technique or manual approach totally based on staff’s knowledge, it can be lack at some moments. Therefore, the chances of some cracks get undetected are huge. So, a crack detection using image processing technique is proposed as a replacement of manual method. In this report, literature presents the previous different methods for crack detection. After detailed study of previous works a new technique is proposed which can play an important role in airline industry. Different types of crack scan be detected using image processing. In this report cracks of different taxonomies will be first converted to grayscale from RGB through our proposed algorithms and then from grayscale edge detection techniques will be applied to identify its edges. After edge detection of digital image algorithms has been applied to find crack and crack can be find by pixel breakage. In this report, implementation of algorithms has been done and experimental results are also attached to confirm the end results of this proposed approach.
