The present study investigated the relationship between borderline personality traits, negative emotional reactivity and non-suicidal self-injury. It was hypothesized that there will be a relationship between borderline personality traits, negative emotional reactivity and non-suicidal self-injury and negative emotional reactivity would play a mediating role in the relationship of borderline personality traits & non-suicidal self-injury. The research design used was correlation (cross-sectional) research design and the convenient sample of 200 students including 110 females and 90 males with age range of 18-24 years (M=20.74, SD=2.13) was drawn from University of Management and Technology, Lahore University of Management Sciences, University of Lahore and the Punjab University, Lahore. The tools used were Perth Emotional Reactivity Scale (Becerra & Campitelli, 2013), The Self-harm Inventory (Sansone & Sanose, 1998) and The McLean Screening Instrument (Zanarini, 2003). The results of Pearson product moment correlation revealed that negative emotional reactivity is positively associated with borderline personality traits and non-suicidal self-injury whereas borderline personality traits were also found to be positively associated to non-suicidal self-injury. The results of Independent Sample t-test revealed that Men are high on self-harm whereas women are found to be dominant in emotional reactivity (positive & negative). Also, Mediation analysis was found to be non-significant. It is suggested that coping strategies should be taught to adults in order to avoid negative emotional reactivity leading to borderline personality traits and attempting non-suicidal self-injury.en_US
