Abstract
The aim of this work is to discuss the cases of code-switching and borrowing in the English-Urdu language used by Pakistanis using the theoretic stratagem proposed by Labov and Gumperz’s to investigate the correlation of language and culture within the given society. The research is demographic in nature and uses both questionnaire and participant observation in data collection. Data collected in quantitatively measuring and describing linguistic behaviors is analyzed objectively and manipulated quantitatively to be able to establish trends and patterns with statistical reliability. Quantitative research is selected in this study because it permits collection and analysis of number data through which researchers see tendencies and relationship in code-switching and borrowing among Pakistani Urdu speakers. This way quantitative approach can determine how often the diversity language is used and in what situations and the results can be in great measure generalized on the population, which would be practically impossible with the help of qualitative approach.
