Abstract
The world has changed itself into a fastest growing economy on the bases of air travel services. Initially people were not wide aware of the travel services provided and its benefits that can be utilized to save time in most crucial moments. It was only limited to intra country or intra continent travel. This trend was changed with the concept of de regulation where every sovereign state open it skies for the world to globally compete in travel market based on their own competitive skills. The open sky policy led to many bilateral agreements that allowed the airlines to visit other airports and carry their traffic in an origin destination pair based on the freedom rights given to each state. This gradually increased the flux of traffic among airports. This leads to the privatization of airports so that they can better managed and handle the flow of air traffic. For this purpose to accommodate the increasing demands the airports authorities focused on airports expansion globally. Different companies were given the responsibility to expand and operate the airport on either built-operate-own method or built –operate transfer methods. But in Pakistan the sole authority that is exercising the responsibilities is Civil Aviation Authority. It takes the charge of every practise and policy being done at airport. Civil aviation authority under the umbrella of Government of Pakistan was initially conducting all the operations at Walton Aerodrome. After the quick shift in travel statistics back in 2000, government approved an expansion plan to current AAIP. Recent trends once again had made the government to focus on the expansion plan to current AAIP so that it can be equipped with world class technology and infrastructure in order to accommodate the growing travel as well as technological advancement that are solely important in today’s aviation environment. Moreover the expansion itself will provide AAIP with a better self-image of actual culture and services that will help attract the passengers all over the world. This expansion will not only lead to more traffic but also increased economy due the employment opportunity generated by the expansion both in aeronautical as well non aeronautical areas of airports.
