Abstract
Through the lens of Career Construction Theory (CCT), the mediating role of employee
work engagement (EWE) between work orientations (calling, job and career) and
employee job satisfaction (EJS) was evaluated. Target population for this was the
higher education universities faculty in Punjab and a total of 318 responses were
collected using both online and by hand forms. Mediation analysis was performed
through partial least square (PLS) method using Smart PLS 4.0. The validity and
reliability was established by evaluating cronbach alpha, composite reliability and
AVE. Goodness of fit of model was also assessed through SRMR, R2
and Q2
. The
obtained results highlighted that there exists a full mediation between career work
orientation and job satisfaction. Results for other two hypotheses including the effect
of job work orientation on job satisfaction and the effect of career work orientation on
job satisfaction via mediation showed partial mediation. The study highlights the fact
that how different work orientations effect job satisfaction differently and that job work
orientation is negatively related to job satisfaction. The study contributed to exploring
work orientation in non-western countries and also added to literature by studying all
three work orientations together.
