Abstract
The current study investigates the relationship between academic achievement and intrinsic motivation among university students. It was hypothesized there is likely to be a positive relationship between intrinsic motivation and academic achievement. There is likely to be gender difference in intrinsic motivation and academic achievement. In addition, the research is mainly focused on demographic details including age, gender, institute, parent's education, parent's occupation and specifically on CGPA between university students. It was correlation (cross section) research. Non-probability convenient sample of 105 university students including men=28 and women=77 with the age range from 19-26 (M =22.3, SD =2.03) was collected from private and government universities of Lahore. The scale that used in this research is Academic intrinsic motivation developed by Regina M. Shia. The tests that used in this study are correlation, means and standard deviation and alpha reliability of scales. The result reveals that there was significant difference between the mean score of girls and boys in CGPA. On the other hand, there is no significant difference between the mean score of girls and boys in intrinsic motivation. The result also shows that the correlation between intrinsic motivation and academic achievement is significant.
