Providing a good fit through effective sizing system and standard is inevitable in today's large-scale garment industry. Proper sizing system, though prevalent in the West, has not been developed in Pakistan. In recent years, there has been an increased demand of women's wear readymade garments but no substantial research has been carried out in terms of proper fit and sizing to satisfy the customer. Clothing companies have developed sizes based either on intuition, through data in form of questionnaires on return from the customers or basic pattern grading principles. Absence of proper sizing system and size standard leads the customer to confusion and dissatisfaction, which in turn effects the sales. However, sizing issues especially in womenswear have long been an area of concern for the apparel industry, but neither the government nor the industry has carried out or sponsored anthropometric research to develop sizing system or size charts for women's wear. The objective of this research was to determine a standard size for women between ages 18 to 25 and to work towards future system of developing size charts through anthropometric study keeping in view the sizes developed and followed by womenswear brands in Pakistan. Through this research, more than 200 women of above age were measured. Sizing charts for dress/shirt of some local brands working in women western wear and ethnic wear were reviewed. The data thus collected was then standardised into Sizes through size charts following the sizing system. The sizes thus proposed are a first step in a vast area of research for future reference but with every decade as sizes do undergo change because of socioeconomic, environmental conditions, the same may be reviewed and changed accordingly. This research aims to discuss and discover essential concepts of sizing for further development. It will help the clothing companies to follow correct sizing chart which will help in good fit and satisfied customer leading to increase in sales and future development of garment industry. It is intended for apparel students and garment industry professionals.en_US
