Abstract
Student politics have greatly shaped Pakistan's history. It played an instrumental part in the struggle for Pakistan's independence. Additionally, it has aided in the growth and advancement of democratic culture in Pakistan. Student Unions, however, were outlawed by General Zia-Ul-Haq’s regime in 1984 on the grounds of inciting violence, a claim that was ultimately upheld by the Supreme Court in 1993. Consequently, Student Councils emerged as a replacement for Student Unions and to fill the corresponding void.
