This thesis aims to explore the idea of mosque, Islam’s most emblematic building, in today’s paradigm. it questions what makes the mosque identifiable and how, a concept as that of the architecture of the mosque, can its design be allowed to evolve in accordance with today’s technology, culture and context. it tackles the dilemma of identity associated with the mosque’s form and tries to achieve, through architecture a place that ties mosque to both, the past and the present. Architecture can extract the structural properties embedded in nature and use them to create its forms. the existing examples in nature can lend us structural configuration that are sustainable. this thesis, whilst not of a mathematical or technical nature, explores structural principles of biomimicry and the influence of form on structural efficiency.en_US
