Abstract
An electric generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. A petrol generator is the combination of a petrol engine with an electrical generator to generate electrical energy. Petrol generating sets are used in places without connection to the power grid, as emergency power-supply if the grid fails.
There are several types of fuels that can be used for generators. It is however seen that the petrol generator is normally the choice of the commercial generator user. These generators are used in many industries like mining, telecommunications, marine and agriculture applications, hospitals, industrial plants and commercial buildings.
A transfer switch is an electrical switch that reconnects electric power source from its primary source to a standby source. An Automatic Transfer Switch is often installed where a backup generator is located, so that the generator may provide temporary electrical power if the utility source fails.
When an electric utility outage occurs, the CBGSS will tell the backup generator to start. The generator is ready to provide electric power; the CBGSS breaks the home's connection to the electric utility and connects the generator to the home's main electrical panel. The generator supplies power to the home's electric load, but are not connected to the electric utility. When utility power returns for a set time, the transfer switch will transfer back to utility power and command the generator to turn off.
