    Demolishing patriarchy and building feminism in Girish Karnad’s play naga-mandala and water novel by Bapsi Sidhwa

    The study aims in analyzing the man women relationship which represented in the Indian play Naga-Mandala and Water novel using the theory of Simon de Beauvoir’s “Second Sex” and the concept of patriarchy. The study investigates in female point of view or feminism that how women are under controlled the patriarchal system. They become the victim of brutal society and treated as other species. The writers criticize involuntarily on the miserable state of women. Both the texts naga-mandala play and Water novel deals with the story of marriage, love disloyalty, oppression, subjugation, isolation and the bitterness of the society toward women. Naga-mandala play and Water novel reflects upon the contemporary Indian culture and social life through the lens of myths and traditional customs. Both texts concerned with the psychological problems, feminism, child marriages and its consequences and conflicts experienced by men and women in their different social situations. The Water novel and Naga-Mandala play finishes with an end reveling that women faced problems socially and in marriage life, the process of conversion of the immature and emotionally under developed women into a settled and fully grown. Women fight against the patriarchy by their own way and they get refuge from the filthy and suffocated society that bound them in a specific place where no one is sincere to them , also they start the new chapter of their lives

    Psychoanalysis of character of ‘Feroza’ under the social and cultural norms in the novel an American brat

    The study investigates the psychological state of a teenage girl living in a closed eastern society. The aim of the study is to find out the elements which cause a young girl from an Asian country such as Pakistan to be psychologically and mentally weak in making her decisions about her life. It can be observed that the migration from an eastern society to a western society causes a lot of uncertainty in an individual. In this study the following questions are answered that how the societal and cultural norms of a closed eastern society affect the psychology of a teenage girl and if the western settings make a girl more independent in her life. The theories such as the theory of psychoanalysis, the theory of archetypes and the theory of feminism are used to answer these questions. The conclusion of the research is that the suffering of a teenage girl is because of her parents and her very own society. The study has also shown that there is lack of communication between the parents and their daughters from the eastern countries which is the reason for the weak state of mind of their daughters. The most significant result from this study was that if the parents want to understand the psychology of their daughters they should communicate with them.
